I was offered A Blanton's Gold to purchase for £75 due to the wax having cracked off, So I took it home & use it as a sip reference for the mashbill #2 😋 I agree with you Dustin nice notes shame about the legs.

I had a neck pour of Blanton’s Gold last weekend ($8 1/2 oz) and a heel pour of Rock Hill Farms ($6 1/2 oz) side by side at a well known store in Cincinnati and I would take the Rock Hill Farms all day every day.

Appreciate the frank reviews. Hope you review a Springbank before Christmas. The last two are Grinches. Springbank 18 2024 is a Banger.

Haven't seen the new springbanks yet, no word on them either. I'm not expecting until mid jan at the earliest. But how about a CS talisker 30th for christmas?

will a Talsiker 30 cask strength do?

In Ontario, these are 106 cad (750ml), usually drop twice a year, sometimes lottery sometimes not. I have finished 2-3 of these over the years but mainly hang on to them for trade purposes now. They are fairly easy to get in Canada with a max price of 200 in Alberta.
@topshelfdustin306020 күн бұрын
106 CAD is a very fair price for this product.

I’ve only tried SFTB once and it was fantastic. the allure of chasing the perfect SiB is half of what keeps people chasing it.

WTF?! It's BLANTON'S. It has a GOLD horsey!! At least an 89, maybe 90!! But seriously only have one bottle and it does have some nice spice. So much better than the original.

As torturous as doing this review was might as well do a Blantons SFTB review too to complete the analysis. SFTB keeps getting high reviews seems like might be Blantons best widely available product. Would be nice to see what u guys think about that one as well.
@topshelfdustin306020 күн бұрын
We've tried that one twice from friends. Frankly, it drinks like a barrel proof blantons. So it would score the same, maybe an extra point for mouth feel. The gold feels like they did make a real effort to find a better and older barrel.

@topshelfdustin3060 Thanks Useful info. Makes sense. The horse on the cap is proly the best thing about these bottles. LoL

Listening to you guys evaluate this whiskey reminds me what I think of most Buffalo Trace products. Thin, simple, just a few core flavors, underwhelming, and considering what most people need to pay for these...poor quality to value propositions. Just think what BT products could be with better cooperage, lower barrel entry proof, higher bottle strengths and no chill filtration.
@topshelfdustin306019 күн бұрын
I'm with you but to be fair to them. Their MSRP is still fair and they make a LOT of their whiskies. Even BTAC is massively produced. They've become victims of the success of making somewhat fair priced whisky and not branching out on that. They also do all kinds of games with distribution which has lead to a lot of justified hate. But as much as they're a simple brand, it's a well done simple brand. And I respect that aspect.
@PatrickS005719 күн бұрын
@topshelfdustin3060 Yes, regarding distribution games, you guys know 80% of Weller Antique goes to Ohio, where it's used as currency to sell on secondary or trade. Compared to other distillers, they do things on the cheap.

@@PatrickS0057 yeah ohio at least used to get insane weller, but eagle rare might as well be a ghost here. And of course, I don't like weller and I love eagle rare (for the money). Oh well

Nice review. Keith nailed though. It's fine for $60-70 but not at aftermarket prices. btw , what happened to Keith's channel? Those reviews with Dave were good.

My stfb are fantastic. Incredibly rich. With water it turns into the best version what people want the original to be. The gold has a different profile then sftb n original. So imo its unfair to compare.
@topshelfdustin306019 күн бұрын
I would agree the gold is it's own animal, older and selected for a different profile. while the SFTB is barrel proof blantons. Having had a few of the SFTB...I can't say any where better than the average blantons bottle on the shelf, but single barrel issues right? But I do hear over 130 proof is the place for the sftb, the two I've had were low low 120's and...not gonna lie. I thought were worse than most regular blantons. Just a nice proof. But I'm 100% willing to believe I just had bad barrels...they were obtained from fireballs where I assume people knew they were letting bad ones go.

@topshelfdustin3060 Mine are 127.5 and 131.1. Got mine about 2-3 months ago. Possibly, the newer ones are hitters? Paid $179. Prior to this purchase, I haven't seen them in 6 years.

@@WheelHouse1of1 I'm not blanton's expert. I know the experts know all the things to look for. But I believe you got good ones. Cause I've even had some great regular blantons...and I've had store picks I thought were only useful for coke mixing (mind you they mixed well).
