Yo should hear the version with the Spanish voices. In that version you can find religious and non-religious concepts which are otherwise lost in translation into the English versión. Also, the Andalusian accent of the people in the leprosarium (Albero reminds of an old Andalusian Village) and the accent of the gypsy woman are completely lost.

What a great atmosphere that was consistent throughout the game. You interact with a few NPCs here and there, but overall you are all alone in this grand but ruinous, desolate land that seems to be some kind of purgatory. The protagonist's cursed silence only adds to that feeling. The allusions to Catholicism and its secret societies (and the more extreme practices of their zealots) are brutally obvious, though that is not a bad thing, as I think this game ultimately satirizes that sort of stuff. The visuals are really nice, and could very well be the best used of such an earthy, brownish-gray palette in video game history. Usually when a reviewer says a game's GFX are "muddy", that's generally not good. But here, that makes the whole experience, and for me, it works. The music and sound design are fantastic too; I want this soundtrack. Bravo to The Game Kitchen.

About the Catholic Church, the references to heretics, the inquisition, the corruption, but ultimately, the peace it brings once people atone for their sins and can move on from their guilt is the path to redemption and that is the best aspect of the game: The main character's bloody path to salvation and redemption.

Yeah, but that's what the real, historical Middle Ages were like, too. How could you have a medieval movie or game and not have it completely full of a lot of Catholicism? The standard, popular culture, totally secularized way of depicting this stuff is actually what's much more weird and inaccurate. It's a lot like how people write medieval fantasy novels or movies, and totally leave out any farming or agricultural details. If the characters were real people, all that stuff would be very much on their minds, not just exploring dungeons for treasures and fighting orc armies. They'd all be people who knew dozens of folk songs and superstitions about farming and nature lol

There is one thing that struck me as a catholic: the inhabitants of this land speak a lot about penance, guilt, punishment and so on... But they don't believe in forgiveness and absolution. There is no end to punishment, no absolution of guilt, the suffering can only be passed on to another. And this is a crucial difference between this religion and christianity. Similarities are mostly superficial and concern the broad vocabulary and aesthetics, yet both hold a different meaning to christianity.

Themes of corruption, twisted allusions to religious imagery, visual representations of misery, suffering & despair, atmosphere so oppressive that returning to town feels like coming up for air - a slower, weighty pace to combat & navigation - a world that feels completely hopeless & hostile. So, the story similar to Souls series, music similar to Diablo and graphics and gameplay similar to Castlevania. Nice amalgamation of great games we have here, which takes the atmosphere on even darker level with it's baroque esthetics and christian fanaticism. Cool as hell.

Who pulled the blade from his chest, was it the knight in Golden armor the teleported away when defeated? The one that excommunicated him?
@VervainVanity5 жыл бұрын
Yes, Crisanta. I wonder if she took it just to 'erase' the penitent one from history or whatnot, or if there was another reason? We didn't learn much about her.
@mgmonteiro15 жыл бұрын
From what I could gather, when you finish the game with that ending and stab yourself with the Mea Culpa you become a vessel to hold all the guilt and corruption of all beings inside yourself for all time (so basically, Jesus with a twist of evil), which effectively holds back the Miracle turning everyone into hideous beasts. This is why you're a thing to worship and they take you to a temple with pilgrimage and so on. But on the other hand it is left explicit (through the very last line of dialogue at the end) that the character is held alive and I guess it goes with the theme to assume he is actually experiencing all the guilt and suffering the sword has absorbed over time, for eternity. Thus, with removing the sword, Crisanta is (likely) slowly undoing this and allowing the guilt/mojo to flow back from you again. As for why she would do that, well she clearly hates the Player Character out of her mind, and since she is so devout to the Miracle, you could imagine how much more did her hate increase from seeing the very person she dreads the most, commune and effectively ascend into the one thing she praises and loves the most (the Miracle). If anything the devs knew how much of a good job they have done with this game (and they have) and Crisanta is already a good DLC/sequel villain set up from the get go, if pulling the sword from the player character really undoes his penance.

I was much interested in this game, but people said that this game is too hard, so it took a lot of time for me to buy this on Steam. (I always check other streamers video before I purchase since I am a lousy game player who suck at almost all kinds of games.) In Korea, somehow even game streamers didn't even try this game, so I looked for Blasphemous full game playthrough of foreign game streamers, and I found your video. I think I watched more than 2 times. The most interesting part is that in your video the game looks so easy 😂unlike other people's complaints. So I immediately tried this game expecting that I could easily get through and pass every stage. But it took more than 30 hours to clear. But I think a lousy game player like me could clear this because of your video. Thanks :) I hope you can upload full playthrough of Blasphemous 2!! 🥰

Great playthrough man, I managed to beat the Our Lady Boss and that other one that looked like a tree demon thingy. I think Nintendo should ask The game kitchen to remake Zelda 2 like this, obviously without the brutality but the animations are really well done in this.

Is Crisanta voiced by a kickstarter backer or something? Cuz my God, she does NOT mesh with the rest of the cast

She's literally the one glaring misstep in the whole game. She couldn't have sounded more like a person reading directly from a script with no inflections to make the dialogue seem genuine.
