My family in the provinces of the Philippines uses parangs for food prep. The Belly and middle is used for chopping and the heel area is sharper and used for the "finer" work.

G'day Chris, I've wanted one of these ever since I saw you do a video on your first one. Back then they were not budget blades here in Australia so I kept hanging back waiting for the price to drop. No way; this great perang-type tool still sells here for between USD$80 to USD$66 plus local shipping. Darn thing is too good! Demand is high and ergo so is the price. I'm now saving up for a knife buying trip to LTWK and elsewhere in the US so I'll be sure to finally get one of these to ship home to myself! BTW I'm still as impressed with this perang as I was when you first reviewed it. Thanks, Chris! Cheers, BH

Picked up one of the Condor Eco Parangs around the time of your 1st vid on this Bushcraft version...highly effective at chopping & battoning ...sharpened up(Easy field sharpen = file if needed then to stone then strop) it cuts vines,thorny brush very well...also "bites" great for limbing/cutting smaller branches off larger logs before cutting firewood(wood stove) into "rounds"...

I have an older Condor Golok that I use a lot for clearing brush, trimming trees, batoning wood, etc... Very versatile... Not sure why I chose it over the Parang... I do sharpen it on my Ken Onion when needed and for some reason it is the easiest blade for me to sharpen... Condor makes some good stuff... I have a Gransfors Bruk ax but I'm hesitant to use it because of how expensive it is... The Golok isn't like super cheap but I have no problem beating on it... And its never let me down...

I bought a small Condor axe that I fixed up like yours Chris but put my own spin on it I stain the handle put a carving on the handle and leather by the axe head made the axe sharp as a razor I used my grinder with the 80 grit sand disc on it then the stone sand paper then the ceramic akensaw sharpener. I had a leather guard I made for the axe, but lost it. I just bought the Amazon one it don't look right on the axe head but I needed something to protect my bag from getting cut up.

In my test the skrama result better than most of the other big chopper such as the tops El Chete. You were the only one that did not like the skrama. I always agree with your opinions... But even after years I still don't understand why you didn't like the skrama

Wouldn't make sense, which type of khukuri? A Bhojpure or Dhankute type would outchop pretty much any Parang...but when it comes to the kind of secondary growth (woody vines and thick shrubbery) common in South East Asia...tough to beat Parang or Golok or similar, though a light/long Chitlange or Sirupate might give them a run for their money 🙂

It pronounce as 'Par-rung'. No 'per-rang'. Condor did get the shape right. Ken Onion's deign is wrong. It need a belly that has a slight curve. So that it can catch the softer twigs. The inch of non sharpen area is the portion you can choke up for fine works. The local bushman recommended to 'place the handle under your arm to take up the weight from the blade'. The big tip can work was a mini shovel to dig small holes. One thing Chris did not mention is that it sucks at baton. The spine is thin and the blade can get wedge in a the wood.

@fastlifebmx9292

Whetstones. If you keep a relaxed natural hand motion and down force a certain angle then you will get a decent convex edge out of it. Ive bought 3 and got 1 sent for free I believe. All of them have kept their convex edge and some of them get a small secondary edge but its not a big deal. I go as low as 200 grit and as high as 3000-10000 (just for looks) but do most of the work at 1000

Bushcraft parang is probably the best affordable/"budget" parangs you can get and probably beats out my cold steel kukri and in my opinion is easier to use for harder chopping than a kukri by design. The convex edge is very strong too and still is a wicked chopper even when its duller.

Yes and if anything happens to it just tell condor . they sentnme a free one so i have 2 now and they're decently light, extremely tough, comes pretty sharp, and the convex just eats wood up like its nothing. Using 3 finger grip especially. For a rubber bush like thing i would use my gavilan de incolma columbia machete (27 inch columbian machete). It cuts deeper than the condor but doesnt rip chunks out because its thin.
