My friend's mom had an '85si w/ the 4sp auto as her daily commuter to her office job as an executive assistant. My friend was driving an '86 Supra at the time, and his mom would borrow it whenever she needed to impress people (like her boss, who she would pick up from the airport or the repair shop several times a month). She used to complain about how we would return her Prelude smelling like weed (yes, she would stron-srm him into borrowing it sinve her name was on the note). As soon as he made enough cash to pay off the bank note, he traded the Supra in for a brand-new Miata, as soon as he could get his hands on one in '89, and his mom stopped borrowing his car. He gave her the opportunity to buy the Supra, but his dad (a machinst) looked up the price of a tune-up, and put his foot down. Many years later, I bought a '92 Prelude Si 4WS 5sp manual from a desperate seller on Craigslist. I did a lot of work on that thing, and had it running like a Swiss watch. I drove it to an electronics refurbishing job for about a year, and worked on it in my spare time. I had to sell it when I ran into a money crunch, but I'll probably get another someday soon (I've seen a few in my area driving around).

My mom had a 1985 Honda prelude and gray with an automatic transmission just like this one. I loved that car. As for the antenna, it is manual you just have to give it a big hard push and maybe some heavy duty silicone lubricant will persuade it to move a bit easier.

yea we had to push it down before entering the car wash

Loved driving these cars back in the 80's! I used to work at an airport parking lot back then and owners would bring these in, usually 5 speed manuals and Si models. Fun driving around the lot!! Haha. No room for something like this here at my place. Someone is going to get a fun Prelude!!

I bought this exact car w/5spd manual new in ‘84. I worked at a factory and took a lot of flak from the union workers. Bottom line, the Prelude was way better than the American cars at that time. I put a sweet set of wheels on it and the car drew a lot of positive attention from strangers. The way that car drove was sublime. Even with only 100hp the way it delivered power made it so nice to drive it’s hard to explain.

Wow, what a low mileage survivor! It’s in near mint condition. I never had a Prelude and wished I had one instead of the 85 Accord 2-door, which was junk to me. Nothing worked properly on my Accord with literally spit and bailing wire keeping it together. What I love about the Prelude is the reverse opening hood and pop up headlights. Almost like the Corvettes in the same era.

The Prelude was the prelude to the Acura Integra.
@stuffhappens56818 ай бұрын
The Prelude was bespoke. Had its own chassis. Integra was based on the Civic.
@akshonclip8 ай бұрын
@@stuffhappens5681 I didn’t say it had the same chassis. The Acura brand was formed from the need for a luxury brand from Honda. The Prelude was the test bed for that inception.
@stuffhappens56818 ай бұрын
@@akshonclip I happened to own both a brand new ‘84 Prelude and a new ‘87 Integra. The Prelude was clearly a better driving, higher quality car. The Integra got better as time went on and the Prelude went away. Acura as a “luxury” Japanese brand got overshadowed by Lexus. Nowadays Acura’s lineup is mediocre at best and Nissan’s Infinity is all but dead.

Man, amazing find. You do really not see this generation anymore. Even here within Europe they're few and far between (though I still see the last generation Preludes relatively often). I am sitting on a first gen, 1979 Mazda 626 Hardtop (otherwise known as the 626 coupe in the US) which I'm slowly getting back to tiptop shape. Due to the climate here it has more rust than this prelude (sills, doors need some work and a tiny bit of TLC on the rear left wheelwell), but also still original radio, original paint, even original chrome trim for the steel wheels in great nick. Found some original seats in good enough of a state to cannabilize to get mine back in tiptop shape with original materials (45 year old Sky... Even with only 130k km/81k miles it didn't hold up to sitting for 30 years)

My Grandparents had 1987 his and hers Accords in this same color. I had the pleasure of owning the sedan. If I'm not mistaken, Prelude had 4 wheel steer.

3rd gen Preludes had the 4WS. Great cars (SCCA buddy let me drive hers back when they were new, since I'd owned a 2G). I think they were from '88 to the early '90s. They looked really similar to the 2G cars, though. 'Evolution instead of revolution..' 😃

I love your channel. You find the most interesting cars that bring back memories from my 20's and 30's. I emailed you, asking about price. I'm 70 years old, My 2004 malibu died last Nov. I drive less than 10,000 mi/yr This car would be perfect for me and the volunteer driving I do...driving and accompanying low income senioirs to medical appoiontments, and volunteer driving homeless pets from ASPCA to vets who volunteer their services to some of the animals who require special care. I enjoy and look forward to your podcasts. You and Becky are terrific, and you absolutely have the knack for finding cars that I'd assume were no longer available. The prelude is a winner! Someone is going to be very lucky to acquire and enjoy it.

I always tell the younger generation to buy something like this. It can be a Honda or a Toyota. Both are ultra reliable and are paid for. No $1000 a month car note because you are a snob and think you are deserving of a BMW. The money you are saving on not having a car note can go towards your student loan.

@RobinLikeABoss8 ай бұрын
"Can't sell for 2k". What kind of condition is it in? If it needs a resto, yea... It takes a special kind of person to take a project like that on when there's no parts availability. The people that would say they'd K-swap it or something. Body swap it wouldn't pay that much for it either... It's a hard place to be in. But I bet one in this kind of condition from the video. It should sell for quite a bit since the prelude does have a name... Maybe it won't sell for 15k. But I think it'll reach 7k, on a good day maybe 10k.
