I'll never forget this production or the segment where the musicians played off stage and kept playing up and down the isles around the audience in surround sound. My Dad loved this show.

I saw this live at Cal Adventure way back when. It was such an amazing experience, this song was my very favorite. It's all the more captivating in person. :)

Reread what I said. They are TECHNICALLY a drum and bugle corps. Their instrumentation that they use for each song goes between brass choir and drum and bugle corps. And I'm going to assume that your date is a typo. They won the Tony award for best choreography. If I'm not mistaken, Tony awards are only given to productions on Broadway, which is where the majority of people in the United States would have first seen/heard Blast. And their roots are through Brass Theater, which was SOI.

@flugel76 Exactly right Flugel... I marched in the 27th Lancers Alumni in 94...Star of Indiana was gracious enough to donate some bugles to us...the bugle I have to this day is from Star of Indiana...and I treasure it..

Pretty much, the catch is, all these people are people who used to march in the national marching bands and got past the age limit to continue marching,

From what i've understood, Blast is a broadway and drum corps show. It uses the marching and music styles of drum corps but as well as broadway. Its like mixing classical with hip-hop.

This is NOT a DCI show. This was originally a Broadway production. They are technically a drum and bugle corps, but they do not have to abide by DCI's rules. If you watch more videos or see them live, you'll see that on quite a few songs, they use contras and mellophones.

Ummm... no it's not. The last DCI show Star of Indiana ever did was in 1993. After that they left competition and did their own thing. They initially toured with Candian Brass for a couple years, then did "Brass Theater" in Branson, MO. That eventually morphed into this show in London and Broadway, which won a couple Tony's as I recall. When NY tourism fell off a cliff after 9/11 they folded up shop. Last I heard, they did a similar show called "Shockwave" in Japan. After that I dunno.
