Please know that I don't hold any ill will towards Meghan or even dislike her. In fact, she made a well put together video. I just think it's important to bring light to this as misandry is severely overshadowed compared to misogyny. It's only fair to call it out when it's present to prevent the normalization of it. I could've articulated myself better but please do not harass her or attack her. She's not a bigoted person, just a very braindead take

Thank you for respecting her by not encouraging any so-called "witch hunting". Regardless of what people say I know several people are probably already on there way to do so, but those people often are just 12 year olds who are just "following the leader". It's good to see that even when someone is committing some of the most BLATANT misandry, people don't feed into that side of themselves and respect the other person, especially nowadays.

2:10 “So she doesn't want male idols because that would bring in more male players” No. She did not say she wants to exclude players on the basis of their sex…She said she wants to retain a female led fandom. If more male players were to join the game, the fandom could still largely be ‘run’ by women. Not everyone who engages in media participates in fandom afterall. Even if there was an influx of male players, her hopes were that they would still have their focus on female characters. 2:35 Your hypothetical is a reality for many female players. Your fake “nasty female players” is very much real for the women who get harassed and excluded while being gamers. Meghan did not once call any players names in her video. I wonder why you did. 4:05 She was not arguing about fanfiction. She was pointing out the bias that fandom goers have for male characters even in a story that is ‘meant’ or largely centers women. There may not be fewer lesbian ships but there would absolutely be an increase in gay ships when there is a new male character. 4:50 If that isn't true then why do fandom goers purposely seek and create content of male characters more than females, even if there are few of them or even in backgrounds? She shows the outright proof of Splatoon’s fandom...can you prove that it's “very not true at all” that males aren’t favored? 6:30 Men have in fact asked invasive questions towards creators in order to push a specific response. It’s actually very weird to give money to the people you think aren’t representing you enough. 7:27 Well…yes! No need to say it like that. Again “plenty” of games is not more or equal to the number of games that center male characters for a male audience. Having a female lead also does not automatically make something good, especially if she’s so overtly sexualized or brutalized for the sake of ‘plot’ a point she makes. 10:45 You can't call her well-articulated video “ranting and waffling” when you just have a gameplay in the background and repeating yourself over and over…And to say she’s one of the people who “hate” the other side aka men is an overkill and just straight up lying. You seem adamant that this is ‘sexism’ and ‘misandry’ neither of which is possible. You need to rewatch the video since you’re very confused…more than the ones who are trolling in her comment section…

Also what she's saying is just insane??? And wouldn't adding a male idol just attract more female players instead of male players??? I'm just telling you that the app Love and Deepspace is one of the most popular mobile apps ever and it features male characters you can get with your female self insert. Are the majority of male players are interested in that? Probably not, and its popularity is because of its female players, lmao And tbh I belive its also the same with having more good looking female characters would also attract more male players, but that doesn't mean people can't be attracted to characters of the same gender as them (queer or not)

So I KIND OF understand where she’s coming from I guess because splatoon is one of the few more diverse e-sports with a lot more afab people in it and I think if the demographic of men was much higher than women, there probably wouldn’t be as much diversity and it would be much harder to get in as an afab person. But as a transman? I really want to see myself in the idols too. I want to see a male idol who’s sassy, smart, and confident. I don’t think adding one or even adding an all male idol group would upset the balance in the splatoon fandom. I also think it’s ridiculous that she’s talking about the fanfiction side of the fandom. Adding an all male idol group will not magically make every fic on wattpad or ao3 mlm instead of wlw and I don’t think this is important as keeping the competitive scene safe for women and nb people. Men deserve representation too and I think she’s just scared of the fandom changing.

I'm gonna shout in text. Just want you to know before i type this. THE FANDOM ALREADY IS CHANGING🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣📣📣📣📣📣📣 OUR SHIFT FROM SPLATOON 2 AND 3 IS LIKE A AVERAGE HOME TO BURNING TRASH! You cannot tell me that you look at Splatoon 3 and say: "Man. I'm proud of this community." People always want this and that. It influences not only the devs (Evidence:Side Order) but the boundaries of who can play with who during special events! (Evidence:More Regional Splatfests) Heck, YOU CAN'T EVEN SAY WHAT RELIGION YOU'RE IN! (Evidence:Plaza Posts, people saying they're loving AntiChrist) "Lets just go to twitter." GUESS WHAT! (Evidence:Splatoon Twitter livid over losing Splatfests) Honestly I barley go to the community anymore and focus on gameplay. Because i can't say confidently, "Splatoon is my favorite fandom." But here i am. Watching people who tells the truth. I just needed to get that out of me for a moment. Sorry.

@InsertQuarterPlz Real quick, what do you mean when you use Side Order as an example? Sure, gameplay-wise, it's just copy/paste Hades, but it's DECENTLY good (and as a Roguelike connoisseur, it's probably one of the worst, but it's also a dlc so I'll give it a pass). Unless you're talking about Pearlina being canon, in which case, yeah, it influenced the devs, and not necessarily in the best way sometimes. As for the plaza posts, yeah, you're right, but not for the reason you think. Yes, there are some people who don't get that "Jesus loves you" is supposed to be taken positively (mostly because of their own past experiences), but the "Satan loves you" thing is more of a joke. A bad one, anyway. As for Twitter, I'm impressed that you considered that as an option, considering it's a hell of its own. Finally, you say that you focus on gameplay because the community is so bad. Nothing wrong with this point, just surprised anyone has the mental patience to consistently play the game, considering that most of Nintendo's tactics to get people to play games require FOMO, which I don't have all that often. In summary: bro is completely based.

The way she says: "Is it really so greedy to want one thing?" Girl. You do understand that adding one male idol to the next game is also wanting to have just one thing, right? The only difference is that the Splatoon community will still continue to be very diverse and accepting of people of all genders if we were to get a male Inkfish idol. If we don't get one, it's honestly just going to be disappointing. I love having a female-lead series like this, and I doubt that that will ever change, because the world is becoming a more accepting place every day. LOL her take is hilarious because the female idols are there to sell merch and appeal to the male gaze. It's not the kind of female representation she thinks it is. That being said as a female Splatoon player I WANT some cute male idols to appeal to the female players kind of like Kpop boy bands. The guys gets get cute girl idols, give us ladies (or gay guys) some cute boy idols. It'll never happen though. Guys drop more stupid money on buying merch of their waifus (look at gatcha games like Genshin) than women do buying merch of their husbandos. It's just catering to the markets to make money and people should not look into at any other angle. Hard disagree with her.

i don't think she meant that she wants less male players? there are already plenty of male splatoon fans that are very popular in the community, such as jaymoji, prochara, etc. i think she meant that the fandom would become obsessed with the male idol if they exist and have them overshadow the female characters, in which case i get where she's coming from because fandoms tend to prioritize men most of the time which is a legit problem that's worth discussing, but i don't agree with her that there shouldn't be male idols in splatoon because of that, because i honestly don't think the splatoon fandom would be too bad about this since the fandom is generally a lot better about this than most other fandoms which she even said in the video, and there are already male and non-female characters in splatoon that people ship and write fanfic about (the male agents, cuttletavio to name a few) but they don't overshadow the female representation. i think male inkfish idols are worth having, and i don't see an issue with that, even if some people obsess over a male idol i don't feel like it's inherently going to overshadow the women

I did comment on her video too, but as a fellow lesbian, I can somewhat see where she's coming from with this-- the overshadowing of women, queer women in particular, in fandom does happen quite a bit, but usually in fandoms where said female characters are already treated pretty poorly by the source material, and at least from my perspective, it hasn't been as egregious recently, but then again, I don't read as much fanfiction as I used to, so I can't say for sure. But I honestly cannot see anything like that happening with Splatoon at all, no matter how many male idols they may add in the future, because the game's creators go out of their way to make sure its female characters are treated with just as much depth and respect as they have other Nintendo characters, hell, most of Splatoon's cast is more fleshed out than many of Nintendo's own male protagonists. And again, I don't think male players feeling so underrepresented is something that should be so easily overlooked, either. Especially considering a lot of Splatoon's fanbase is queer, gay and trans men should be able to see themselves represented in this game just as much as queer women are. Like, the only main male characters in the series are an evil bear CEO, a manta ray, and two divorced war criminals. I was super stoked to see that Acht was confirmed to be nonbinary, and I think the men in this fandom deserve to have that kind of feeling as well. (And, yes, I think it should go without saying that this does apply for straight and cis men too, but I'm focusing on queer men in this regard because they're often underrepresented elsewhere, too) She mentions how good it feels to see a fandom so openly loving of characters like her, but why does that only have to apply to her? As I said in my other comment, more diversity in this series can only be a good thing, given it's already one of the most diverse video games I've seen. Her fear seems to be extremely overblown, but I can tell it's one that comes from experience. That doesn't mean she's at all right about this, but again, I can see where she's coming from even though I disagree.

It's also true that what she's doing is a form of gatekeeping. It's also true that the reason men typically haven't need these spaces is because most areas especially in gaming are male dominant. It's also true that nowadays men are more lonely and need to make friendships and have spaces to come together. Honestly, I think the solution is to be accepting of others and be welcoming no matter age, sex, gender, or race, because everyone should feel welcome.

Like how the plaza posts talk a lot about lgbtq inclusivity and as soon as christians post stuff like jesus loves you all of a sudden their not allowed. And ive also seen a ton of people say this community should accept women but then say stuff like missandry isnt a real thing. Its inclusivity and diversity but only for the people that they approve of. Its so dumb

I think it would be good to share the comment I left on that video when it was still new. "You may not intend to gatekeep, but that's how it's coming off. Don't get me wrong, I love the female-dominated cast, but as a masc-presenting enby, I want to be able to see myself in important characters in one of my favorite series, and I just... can't, and shouldn't want that? Because some random people on the Internet said so? I hear you, I see you, I understand you, and I feel almost punched because of it. Adding one humanoid idol isn't going to cause the issues you think it will. People will get excited because we finally have a male inkfish idol (similar to how they did with Big Man), and then it'll probably go back to normal. Plus, Pearlina will prevent the shippers from getting too out of hand with shipping him with another male character." I stand by it to this day. Having more fanbases heavy in one specific gender is just going to enlarge the already massive gender divide in gaming (and to a much lesser extent, society in general). We need to be more connected and understanding of each other and it's not going to help anything if we gatekeep games from each other.

As a woman, I love that Splatoon is a female led series which is super rare for shooter games especially, but I wouldn't mind seeing a little more variety in its lead characters. I wouldn't say that Splatoon 4 absolutely NEEDS male idols, but I am starting to get a little bored of the idols almost always being humanoid woman for three games. I'd love to see a humanoid male idol or even non-humanoid female idols! I personally do not think that having one or two humanoid male idols would stop Splatoon from being a female led series or prevent the fandom from being enjoyed by women. If anything, I think having a humanoid male idol or two could make even more women want to join in the fandom! One thing to keep in mind that a lot of people who enjoy male characters and are making fanfics of those characters are women. Fanfic is known to be a very women-dominated hobby among writers and readers, so it makes sense for a lot of them to want to read and write about cute male characters. (Not all women are into men of course, but a lot of them are.) Now, if Splatoon were to completely shift focus from its female leads to only its male leads, that would be concerning as Splatoon was designed from the ground up to be female led, but I don't think having just one or two inkfish boys is going to hurt anyone. Then again, if Splatoon were to continue going on with having mostly humanoid female idols, that wouldn't hurt anyone either. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and in the end, it's Nintendo's choice when it comes to how the Splatoon canon is handled.

This is so shitty! One of the things that I like the least about Deep Cut is that they kinda took the cheap way out with adding a male idol to the mix. Instead of being an Inkfish like all of the past idols, they made him completely different. And then they also made him the silly and goofy one, so he's really just the stereotypical big soft guy. I really hope that we can get a male Inkfish idol in the next game, because as much as I love Big Man, they were very clearly trying not to make him feel like any of the other idols, and it makes me just a little mad. EDIT: typo

6:33 actually, girls have done that before... and people listened to them! Remember when in the 80/90's videogames were considered an "only male" hobby? Well, things have changed! And that's because we SPOKE, we shared our love for videogames and after so long of sharing our passion, we're now part of this hobby! Hell, now there's specific genres of game made FOR girls! I mean, even in animated series mostly for girls there's a bunch of guys being fans! So I don't understand that girl, she's just being selfish and childish.

If nintendo manages to slip in a transmasc idol into Splatoon 4 I would melt in joy. Odds are low given that Japan is more conservative on queer matters but given that we already (technically) have Pearl and Marina as a canon ship (seems we have proof that it can be read romantically or even queer platonically but no beef towards those who read them as purely platonic) and the fact that Splatoon does seem to be Nintendo's "queer" franchise its not quite as impossible as some would imagine. It would mean a LOT to people. Especially now where trans folk as a whole are being abandoned and more and more attacked by those in power... if Nintendo risks it all to give that representation (even if its sorta hidden and between the lines) it would earn my complete respect.

It's so stupid because BL/yaoi/MtM, whtever you call tham, is a type of story made by and for woman (there is almost none men gay or not who like this type of story). But FtF is literraly made for man and a part of woman (lesbian or not) so if you don't want men in your fandom just have only yaoi in it. Also fanfic are way more popular with woman than men. I'm sure she rages every time she see a fic Male 3/8 or Cuttlefish/Octavio or whatever 4, big man and neo 3 ship are. I have a exemple of a other serie very very female centric even more than splatoon, Touhou project. And in touhou project, a male humanoid character was introduce, Rinnosuke, and he have a close relationship with Marisa (one of the two main charactere of the game). But I don't see a lot F/M in this fandom (or M/M if you count charactere with no name and... a turtle). Oh and touhou have more men than women fan and is made by one men. 5:27 It's a lie woman have way more fanart etc than men because men and woman do both fanart. At least if you count in term of charactere importance in the story or fan favorite. Woman tend to by more appealing than men to draw. But fanfic are way more popular with woman so we got more M/M also in her exemple (not in the video) she talk about game with 4 male so yeah least option mean more fanfic in the option we have. And it's stupid because if splatoon have a lot of men and women player, it's not because of the idol, no, it's because we don't have toxic vocal in the game. 7:59 a ton of filter hu Marina/pearl done and same for every other ship. I search fanfic I have like 2 or 3 (your fandom count as a filter) and I seach very specific thing because I don't like cheesy romances with no story to make them interesting like hurt/comfort fic. And if you want more fanfic in your favorite subject do it yourself. 8:56 You know, men are also objectified by women too... just look at chissy romance, visual novel, no just go in webtoon one seconde... double standard.

Nintendo makes games for everyone. Plus I don't think any game is specifically made for a certain group (even if there are games where graphics or story-wise it could appeal more to one group or another). I personally believe that having male idols may actually bring more girls to Splatoon than there already are given how much girls love male groups irl. Plus I don't think it'll necessarily take away from the LGBTQ aspects of the fandom either since it can even potentially lead to more BL ships and heck if Nintendo wanted to we could get more masc-leaning NB characters. And then just because you happen to have a cast that happens to be about 50-50 masc and fem doesn't mean anyone has to be paired up especially in a boy and girl way. Platonic relationships between a girl and a boy can happen

I'm not against male idols, but having an all-male idol group probably won't end well. Maybe some time down the line it could be possible, but for now I think it's best if they slowly add male idols kinda like what they did with Bigman, but fewer mascot and more actual idols. (Also to be clear my personal opinion is that they should turn one of the already existing bands into the idol group for the next game and would love to see something like Hightide Era, Ink Theory or even Sashimori take the stage. I just don't think most of the splatoon fanbase would be happy with that.)

She seems to have this false assumption that a mostly male game cast means mostly male players and female game cast female players. So like, people largely just play games where characters have the same sex as themselves. Well...as a guy who originally got into Splatoon solely because I thought the inkling girls were cute as heck and I only ever played the girl as a result (I was a hormonal 14 year old boy, don't blame me lol), uh...what?? Also, I'm positive almost all the male-character-centric fanfics and ships she's complaining about are written by women lol, not men, so that's ironic. The reason she keeps thinking that male characters have way more potency is because SHE'S SOLELY HANGING AROUND SITES THAT ARE DOMINATED BY WOMEN, and guess what, the majority of women are straight and therefore like fictional hot male characters more so of course that's all she's seeing LOL. Go to some more male-dominated online areas and you'll find plenty of men absolutely simping over cute anime girls instead of male characters lol.

For the record, I ALWAYS saw Splatoon as a franchise that appealed to BOTH genders, and NOT a girls-only club like she claims (I mean, else we wouldn't have Inkling Boys to play as in the first place). In fact, I wasn't even aware that Splatoon's fandom was mostly females in the first place (and I don't even know whether or not it's even true). So I don't know if more male idols means more men will be added to the fandom... in fact, I'm pretty certain this will introduce _more women_ to the fandom, because "pretty boy" characters bring added will definitely up the "(character) x reader" types of fanfics, and will also add more yaoi fanfics too. Apparently, girls love to write yaoi fanfics and (character) x reader fanfics, especially if they involve pretty boys. Also, I think it's extremely selfish and shallow of her to not want more male idols because she doesn't wanna sift through a bunch of non-female fanfics nor apply filters, and just get her female and yuri-centric fanfics by only clicking the main tag. Reeks of privileged. I actually wouldn't mind a bit of variety. If you don't want that, filters exist for a reason, and if you don't want to use filters, well that's too bad because you'll have to use them someday anyway. (Also, women that are full fledged, fully fleshed out characters and that aren't thought of as lesser or as accessories or love interests to men exist in way more fandoms than just that of Splatoon). She asks if it's so greedy for her to want this franchise to be for women/herself? Yes, actually. Again, I saw this franchise as appealing to both genders, NOT just women; just because it has more female characters doesn't mean it's a girls-only club, and desiring a franchise to be as much of a girls-only club even when it never was, is EXTREMELY selfish and reeks of gatekeeping. Splatoon is NOT only "your" franchise, lady, you gotta learn to share.

2:05 The fandom is female lead??? I only know 2/3 girls who play Splatoon (1 is a relative who I kinda got into the series) but everyone else (7 others) is male or enby. I only know of one or two female content creators, again everyone else is male. Despite Splatoon heavily targeting a female audience I wouldn’t be surprised if a majority of the playerbase is male. Even then her fear is unjustified a) nothings killing the ff ships considering OTH are the favourite of the fandom and definitely here to stay, b) the worst that would happen is that we would get bl/mm ships in the case of two male idols, because the fandom is super gay (affectionate). I agree that there’s a double standard and I agree that the takes you showed are kinda wild, however I also do get where she’s coming from (although it’s definitely misplaced) even though it’s gatekeeping.

I'm copying this comment from my original one under the video by meghan, as I want more people to see this. (This disclaimer is just so I can say that I'm not referring to Fryethusiast when I say "you" in this). I'm going to go on record before saying my disagreements with your opinion, but I don't think that you are Misandrist or selfish. I don't believe you're a bad person for voicing this. I do, however, believe that this video treats male representation in and the existence of mlm as a negative to a fandom, and that if it were added to Splatoon would cause female representation and wlw to disappear almost immediately, when this just isn't the case. I do also believe that there are more reasons to why inkfish male idols could be added that are more objective to how the game has treated male characters, which I will go over first before going over the fandom reasons you mentioned. Splatoon has always been female focused since the beginning on the Wii, and this is a great thing! Most games don't usually end up being as successful, much less being able to pull this three times in almost a decade. With the focus being on female leads for this long, however, it's made the male representation much more lacking in the series. Most of the important male roles, excluding the player agents (since it's a thing you can choose), male characters have only really made up the main villains of the story (Octavio, Mr. Grizz and Tartar) and comedic characters (Cap'n Cuttlefish & Big Man) for ones even relevant to the story that barely show up much throughout for the most part (aside from OE). Even with Big Man being the first male idol, and despite how much I like him, he's still played off as a joke character for the most part (from his name being a pun on him just being a big manta ray to his involvement in groups being him mostly as a joke or as the butt of the joke in the case of Big Betrayal). Because of this, I think that this would be a good reason to have male idol representation, as I believe that it would be great to have deeper male characters with more to them for people to relate to, even if that character ends up being a different species than inkfish. It would allow for a nice break from the norm this series has done with male characters narrative wise, and it would allow them to go into different types of character depth that might've not been as well done if it was with a female character. Aside from being used for mainly comedic roles, however, male characters also tend to have the weirder body types / are generally more closer to sea animal than human, if not almost entirely just being THAT sea animal but being able to walk and talk. Most of the male shopkeepers are just sea animals. Even the more human of them are still on the weirder side, such as Spike and Murch, or are generally a more basic looking type of weird (where most of the male band characters end up tbh). In contrast, most of the female characters tend to be humanoid and generally inkfish, with barely any ever looking more like sea animals. Even with non inkfish characters, they tend to be humanoid still, such as Harmony, Annie, and Flow. The only female character that really differs from this trend are the Goldfish staff, and that's mostly really just because they're meant to be older lunch lady characters. For the most part, male characters tend to be used for the weirder designs, usually ending up on a more ugly side, while female characters are more standard and humanoid, ending up being the more appealing designs for the most part. As much as the guy who spent that much to get a sharehold to complain about male characters not having a lot, he does have a point for how little the male characters have in comparison to the female characters when it comes to their body customization. Because of this, I also think that this would be a good reason to do an inkfish idol, as it would allow the devs to break from the norm they've put for male characters and experiment more. I would definitely love to see more pretty looking male characters that have more fleshed out designs for clothing and hair compared to the standard that's been set for male non player characters. Going away from the reasonings I have that are more directed towards how Splatoon has objectively treated male characters design wise and story wise, I will now be going towards the fandom side of it, where I'm going to criticize your video more. I don't think adding a male idol group that's more gay representative with an mlm ship will overshadow the lesbian representation of wlw ships in the fandom. There's nearly nothing for mlm ships in Splatoon at all. Ignoring the player agent ships (as there's always going to be a wlw and mlm ship variant of those ships), there are only really two notable mlm ships, being Cuttlefish x Octavio (characters who borderline hate each other) and Mr. Grizz x Tartar (characters who have NEVER MET BEFORE). Meanwhile with wlw ships, there's Pearlina, Shiver x Frye, Shiver X Marie, Frye X Callie and likely other variants on that with the other female idols. It'd take an active effort from the devs of end on end male idol groups to even make a DENT against the more popular wlw ships of Splatoon, and by then people would definitely notice this happening. The popularity of the wlw ships aren't as fragile as you treat them in the video, even if you don't seem to realize that you treat them that way, and adding a male idol group with mlm representation likely wouldn't even make much of a difference to the popularity of Pearlina. The way you treat mlm ships in comparison to wlw in the video also comes off as gatekeeping and sexist as many people pointed out, but I think many people are only dropping comments and leaving them at that without explaining why it comes off as that. Most of the people I see pushing for male inkfish idols tend to be gay, transmasculine, or even other girls who like men. I myself, even if I'm bi, would absolutely like to see more representation of males for the other minority groups in the LGBTQ+ that the majority of Splatoon's fanbase aligns with. The way you word your question about selfishness in the video makes it seem like you believe that male ships existing would actively harm Splatoon and would make the series worse, as well as implying that those who want mlm ships are selfish and that you have a disdain for mlm existing for the most part. While I don't believe you're sexist at all, I also believe that you don't have to be sexist to say something that is sexist, and this is pretty sexist. At best, it's a poorly worded part of the rant that you didn't mean to make you sound that way, but at worst it's actively hostile gatekeeping to gay members of the splatoon community who would like more representation. While I don't think it's selfish of you to want wlw to be in splatoon still, does that make the inverse selfish at all? Would it be selfish for gay and transmasculine members of the community to want better representation of themselves in the game? Would it not feel horrible to be told that your hope for a potentially gay character ship from male representation would ruin the game if it was added? I want to conclude this by reiterating, again, that I don't believe you are sexist. I've been doing my best to keep level headed and explaining my position more on why I disagree with you rather than immediately calling you a misandrist. I think that inkfish male idols in the game would help break the mold of how male characters have been treated story wise and design wise by the devs, and I do think that, for the most part, you have overexaggerated the impact having more mlm ships in the game would have to the majority of wlw and lesbian representation the game has had for over a decade, and that this has made you come off as gatekeeping and sexist to most people. I think that you should apologize to people for how you came off as in this video, or at the very least, explain better your position on this in a clearer manner that doesn't come off as potentially hateful to others. I believe that all people are good deep down, and (as stupid as this may sound to some people) I don't believe that this should define you or your channel. Equality isn't reached by blaming the other side on both sides. I said this before replying to my own comment and I will say this again, while I don't know if meghan will see the comment I made, I hope more people see this returning to the video and while looking at this video and will be more calm when discussing this. I feel like most people have immediately been going to calling her sexist and gatekeeping without actually explaining her faults and why what she said was sexist.

As dumb as I might find the premise of the original video to be, this video is far more reactionary and bad faith. In its face. I saw this video and started watching, then when you said the classic “if it was the other way around” and I immediately had to pause and watch the original. Her take (though I disagree with its conclusions and rationalizations) she at the very least spoke reasonably and tried to back up her arguments with evidence from her point of view. You just kicked and screamed about how she is sexist and misandrist without even addressing her arguments? You just jump to the conclusion “she is wrong and sexist” instead of trying to honestly understand why she is saying what she was saying and why it’s misguided. I haven’t seen any of her other content, I could be wrong, but based on that video she is not some insane bigot. She has an honest and defensible opinion that you just whined about her having that take for 13 mins. I don’t think you’re a bigot or sexist or whatever, but I think you show no real effort to honestly understand her perspective and portray it honestly. Instead you jump to being angry and reactionary.

Have you even watched the full video? I addressed her points at multiple times throughout the video. Sure I may be a bit hyper and somewhat aggressive in my responses, but I don't jusy throw out baseless claims. Not wanting male idols because it would bring in more men and overshadow lesbian ships is just misandrist. I'm not saying she's a bigot but she did say some sexist things that I thought needed to be called out. Would you comment the same way about a guy not wanting female characters for the same reasons? I mentioned at the end that I don't think she's a bad person, just had a bad take. I don't think anything I said was slanderous or untrue. Sure it was reactionary but that doesn't necessarily negate what I said

@Fryethusiast oh wow you actually responded lmfao. 1. Yea, of course I watch the video lmfao. And no, you didn’t actually criticize or break down why her reasoning doesn’t work, you just called her take sexist and insane. 2. No. Not wanting male idols is not inherently misandrist. The reasoning for wanting something matters. Her rational was that she feels that introducing male leads into a female led series generally shifts the fandom towards focusing more on the men than on the women at the lead. She is not saying “male led series should not exist or be given attention, nor that it is bad for male leads to be introduced into female led series generally. It isn’t “just misandrist or sexist” people are allowed to have preferences without these loaded terms being plopped onto them. 3. Yes, I would comment the exact same thing to a guy going “I don’t want female lead characters introduced into my male led series.” That’s just a preference that is fair to be had. Do I think there would be some pretty big differences in now you would defend that take? Yeah, because men are far more represented in videogames than women and men are generally fixated on more in fandom than women, so a lot of the arguments she made wouldn’t apply the same way to a gender swapped version of this conversation. That being said, I don’t think guys wanting a mainly guy led series to focus mostly on men is an inherently misogynistic take. 4. Yes, you did say you “didn’t think she was a bad person,” but that is the lowest bar in the world to cross after making a video calling he insane and her takes misandrist. When you do that combo it strongly implies that she is both insane and misandrist. Anyways, arguing about this in a KZbin comment section will suck ass so if you want to talk about this further and actually have a conversation it should be over voice cha or something like that. Thanks for at least reading and responding.

This girl basically thinks women only like women, even though the popular male ships she mentioned are literally made by females lmao. That’s just shows she either doesn’t know that yaoi attracts straight women the most or she just simply mistreats straight women just like she does with men.

i don’t mind if the idol is gonna be a female male non binary or some other genders. just aslong nintendo and the fandom won’t ruin them then that would be okay.

As much as I disagree with her for why she thinks that we should avoid male idols in the future, I don't exactly agree with you either. Fryethusiast, you don't exactly go about this the right way. It seems like one of your reasons for not liking her argument is "female empowerment", which is actually a very important thing. I'm not sure why you might think that a woman wanting her female characters to be empowered is a point against this argument, but it's not a great look.

I'm not saying I'm against female empowerment. I'm saying not wanting male characters in fear that it'll diminish that empowerment is just delusional. The female characters will still be the strong characters they are even with male idols. I don't have an issue with female empowerment but it's been so diluted these days. Feminism is not what it started as anymore

Hard agree. I feel like this video misrepresented her points a bit-- even if her arguments were flawed; but opinions are flawed by default anyways.

@@Fryethusiast sorry wdym by ''feminism is not what it started as anymore'' 😭😭 thats an interesting statement to make anyways, i dont personally think an extra male idol would ruin the game, but she is right in the fact that a big part of splatoon is having female leading characters!! i genuinely cant see why anyone would call that delusional
@Fryethusiast
@Fryethusiast 15 сағат бұрын
@NyahKatt I'm saying that feminism started out by wanting equality between men and women. Now it's just devolved into wanting women to be superior to men and hating men. I'm not saying that's what she's doing but having male idols isn't going to overshadow the female idols like she fears

I feel like they have it backwards. You are a great example that more female characters are likely to also attract male players. The reason they seems to be okay with Big Man is that his less human-like form is not as relatable to the male players. More male idols would bring in females as much as it would bring in males. They mention that they like being able to find other females in the fandom which leads me to believe their issue is that, perhaps being attracted to those of the same gender, they imagine males will be inherently attracted to the game by the addition of male idols.

Nah splatoon 4 should continue having female idols. The Splatoon franchise is super unique for having almost all significant characters be female, nothing sexist about it.
