Blaydon Races song with lyrics, for all Newcastle Utd supporters and geordies. Blaydon Races is a famous Geordie folk song written in the 1800s by Geordie Ridley, in a style deriving from music hall. It is regarded by many as the unofficial anthem of Tyneside and is frequently sung by supporters of Newcastle United Football Club and Newcastle Falcons rugby club. Blaydon is a small town in Gateshead, situated about 4 mi (6.4 km) from Newcastle upon Tyne, in North East England. The actual race itself used to take place on the Stella Haugh 1 mi (1.6 km) west of Blaydon. Stella South Power Station was built on the site of the track in the early 1950s, after the races had stopped taking place in 1916.

As a Scotsman that went with a Geordie Lass for 2 years that it makes me proud to hear this everytime I listen to it. It brings back fond memories to what we had. I was a Liverpool fan since birth and after this experience I came to the conclusion that if I wasn’t a Liverpool fan I’d support Newcastle United. Always look out for the Newcastle result it’s great to see that they are doing well. ❤️

My Dad fought in Korea with the Inneskillen Dragoon Guards. Although from London, all of his tank crew were Geordies. He loved Geordies for the rest of his life, sang this song frequently and always told me "you will never find a better friend than a Geordie". However, having ended up with one as a life partner I have a rather different view and find myself saying poor Ashley everytime I see Chelsea play. Great song anyway

The cricketers of Durham County Cricket Club would have been banging their bats on the dressing room floor and singing the tops of their voices this week. Congratulations Durham on promotion to Div 1

At the weirdest of times, by dad shouts "wow!, me lads" and it makes us think something has happened, it really annoys my mum, but it makes me burst into laughter! 😂🤣

I live on the south coast of England, but have been to Newcastle twice,Durham once- I have been for a drive In Northumberland, the scenery was stunning-I personally find Geordies great folk-level-headed,sensible,down-to the earth people. One last point,I know he is no longer with us,but I shared Bobby Robson's birthday (18th February) H'WAY THE LADS!
