Before You Buy a Bass Boat Watch This is is me reviewing the Blazer 650 Pro Tour bass boat, this is Video 16 in this series, or the 2020-21 Great Bass Boat Search series of videos (see playlist on my channel). I walk you through me spending the day in a bunch of different boat brands and models through the fall of 2020 looking for my next boat. If you didn't see the first 12 videos you can go back and watch them first, (reviewed Bass Cat Puma Hybrid the boat with the Champion 203 style hull, a Charger 210 Elite, a Ranger 521C & 520L and a Caymas CX21 , a Vexus VX20 and a Bullet 21 SDC).
In video 2 I will score the boat 1-20 in 5 different categories, Fishability, Performance, Amenities, Fit & Finish and then a 5th catch all that includes feedback from friends that own them, trailer, options, feedback from fiberglass shops in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas asking them what they see as the best 3 boats, based upon construction, currently being built (since they see how we beat them up). And then we ask them which they see the most non-impact damage to the hulls with (least well built). Then for tournament anglers we include a 6th 20 point category looking to see who has the best contingency prize package available. Next up is a Phoenix!

Each fisherman will have their boat setup unique specific to how they like it. A few things I like in a boat are my dislikes/likes. I can do without rod tubes. Had both but like boxes without much better. I like the lift assist handle on the tongue like bass cat has to help get in the boat easier. Middle age guys like myself like those. Easy access to the batteries & bilge is a absolute must.

Mr. Ken, I'm desperately trying to find out more about the hole shot of the blazers. A good hole shot is at the top of my list of must haves on a boat. I'm very interested in a blazer. But I really need verification that can get on pad the way I want it to. I know this boat wasn't propped right. Did you try any other props? Please help me out with some more input on this subject. Is there any way in the world to contact the gentleman that demoed the boat with you?

Tim, roger that, lots and lots of things to consider, its becoming apparent there is not going to be a “best” boat, but I think I can get it to a top 4-5 based uddon build, ride, fish ability and value and I’ll do the old “pluses” and “minuses” thing and work it out

My BassCat Puma has a 250 SHO with the Yamaha digital gauges as well. I trim by feel and by the gauge, Once you get used to "seeing" what it looks like, it's no issue to view. The only analog gauge I have is a water pressure gauge. I couldn't tell it the Blazer had the analog water pressure gauge. The Blazer is a nicer boat than I was expecting.

Ron that’s the disadvantage on a smaller boat maker, you don’t get to see many on the water, I think I’ve seen 2-3 on Rayburn this year

I fished with Chris as a co in a different blazer at the Toyota Series event on Lake of the Ozarks last month, overall a very fast boat that seemed well thought out. One small issue I had was the location of their measuring board - right underneath the coangler seat. I fish with my tackle bag there by my feet - always was an issue getting the board out to measure the fish - seems there would be an easy fix to move it somewhere more convenient .

That was good. Chris did a good job of promoting, or demonstrating his knowledge of the boat. I’m in a Phoenix, but I like that front deck layout of the Blazer. Like the day box and the two center boxes up front.

Great stuff Ken, awesome reviews on the boats. But I would like to see another Phoenix boat such as the PHX or Elite. From what I’ve seen they have a wider from deck than the Pro XP. Which I assume also has a different hull. And maybe more stability and less list.

Wow! I absolutely love the redesign of the new Blazer. I’m in love with the deck layout also. Sounds like they are still refining it and I actually like the 1 big strap for the batteries and the way they are laid out. This is my favorite boat so far. I assume they don’t have a contingency program and that will be one of your concerns when you finally make your decision in choosing a boat.

Too premature to review. They haven't thought this boat through completely to be ready for the pro angler. It's still in its infancy and needs more testing, feedback and design implementation.

Not sure I agree with you there, they have been making boats since 1978, that’s way, way longer than Phoenix, Caymas, actually longer than a lot of boats we are going to review. This is a redesign, but these guys have over 40 years building bass and bay boats

Man that is a plain, ugly, boxy lookin boat...Maybe it's just the color. Also don't like the net storage, bass cat has it nailed with the quick access door. My biggest "get in my way" item in the boat, is the net.
