Lille (as Komamuras bankai) have an unatural aura, so a good CGI can give that aura better that they just being normal 2D, and Komomuras Bankai wanst bad, at least that from point of view

*Sighs* To be completely honest, Lille HAS to be CGI. If his entire body is going to be made of the same stuff as his wings, that is. They not only would have to animate all the patterns, rippling and pulsing of his wings, but also replicate that across his entire body, while limbs and such are moving. It's just not realistic to expect that to be done without CGI. Pernida? Why? Pernida honestly seems like it would be pretty easy to animate.

@@HOLDENPOPE Pernida is a means of evolution. At one point there’s 3 Pernida’s. After exploding from Nemu, the pieces form up and create more Pernida’s then kill Nemu. The exploding of the hands and the insanity of it’s evolution is definitely CGI worthy (at least the beginning part of the fight)

I think the scenes where the cameras pulled back and it shows how he scales to the buildings wouldn't be a horrible place to use cgi, like the panel where he's holding out his sword to his side and he has the helmet and wings, but the fighting shots should definitely be hand animated

Just because one is tall in stature doesn’t always move slowly. Gerard can’t be CGI (Except maybe for his Glowing Gladiator form we never got to see in full action)

I mean, not all CGI is created equal. Just compare Nier Automata's episode 1 CGI with Demon Slayer's But the CGI in the TYBW has so far been pretty good imo, the only instance I remember not liking it is with the Zanka no Tachi south technique that summons the undead (because the amount of enemies didn't feel overwhelming like it does in the manga). But Komamura's bankai looked really good

Yeah, imagine waiting 10 years to be insanely letdown, I only waited 4, but I can’t even imagine how much more ticked off I would be. They were supposed to do right by this arc as shounen jump treated Kubo like crap. Getting the author doesn’t mean it will automatically be good, you have to have enough staff/talented and have some grasp of how to keep and manage animators for an anime to work. It’s not even animated better than a filler arc. Pierrot limiting the staff and not being able to manage them sucks. Kubo truly is carrying hard. They want to rush everything that isn’t a story addition therefore crapping all over the fights.

@@ixnexus Hikaru Murata, Weird pacing, underwhelming fight adaptations even though it’s seasonal and can’t even reach the OG weekly anime, rushing just to get to the next story addition, meh music, forcing Kubo to carry hard, lack of action animators, losing big animators like Kanno, relying on pretty art to make up for the lack of animation, a questionable director, OG anime and filler having better animation, etc. We hardly have these subtle things in the OG anime like spiritual pressure effects for example. It’s safe to say it’s a massive letdown.

It also showed how Kubo was almost planning on an anime to be made of this arc just to better explain things cause he felt it would do better in animation than on the pages of the manga.

8:20 - That concept of "it being uncomfortable is the point" doesn't really work for this situation. I'm one of those who don't mind the red sky too much however to some extent we have to recognize when something is overall too jarring to just look at or is even overly distracting. For instance with Sajin's bankai, when they wrote up on why they made it CGI, they said something along the lines of "we wanted to make it look almost ethereal/unnatural". That is an amazing concept and would have been incredible if it were implemented correctly however the CGI monster they created was "unnatural" in more negative aspects as it simply looked out of place and thus the effect of the bankai and its reveal, I believe, suffered greatly. This is an issue that seems to be echoing through the whole TYBW anime arc actually(at least in my eyes). The lighting, effects, CGI - sometimes they're overbearing as though they're deliberately used to distract audiences from the characters and the sketched animations and it ends up looking like a splash of randomness here and there(ofc that could all just be me as I came into watching the TYBW arc directly after rewatching the fullbring arc)

I pray for cours 3 & 4 to be better and not just rushed and underwhelming segments to get to new story additions.

The thing is, i like the red sky. i got exactly what they were intending with it. Which is why i never reacted poorly to cut dialogue. (they've added way more than they cut) Extra dialogue is usually a thing in LN and Manga to emphasis points and even just straight up filler. Because those things are a different medium. Extra dialogue in an anime is literally redundant. You either get SHOWN what they are explaining via animation or they are telling you it in terms that fit the anime pacing. Speaking of the pacing, it seems (mostly anime onlies) people are confused and think the pacing is fast. No filler seems to be messing with people. They don't understand that this is literally just normal pacing and what they were used to is incredibly slow. Only cuts i am upset with are the cut Yoruichi intro scenes and the comedy scenes. Less on the comedy since i know it doesn't fit the vibe. But that bit when she is supposed to show up in front of Ichigo and crew is important characterization. i'm more shocked they kept Ganju in. Another cut scene is the Byakuya speech. A lot feel that it was important but missed that the scene works pretty much the exact same anyways but would not have worked in the manga. Hence the need for the speech. it's really hard to put in poignant silence in a medium that is always silent. i am mixed on the CGi, i think it looked good and fit mostly but i also don't understand why they couldn't have just done Sajin's Bankai in 2D? But i do get it when it comes to most of it. People really don't think much when watching

The red background discourse had an insane amount of copium. The emotion Taguchi was trying to tell us was conveyed by our reaction to it? This is laughable interpretation of reality. The very reason people didn’t like it is because it didn’t look good. It’s not because the audience didn’t feel comfortable, it just wasn’t not done well enough for the audience to to not find it overbearing. The idea might have been somewhat creative but the execution was very poor hence the bad reception from the fans. If Taguchi knew how badly the fans would have reacted to his creative decision, he wouldn’t have done it imo. Aside from that, the video was informative and insightful.

CGI in TYBW is a mixed bag. Hollows in ep 1, soldat, buildings and äs nodt stuff because they got the ufotable person to do that were almost perfect CGI. But zanka no tachi south, dangai joie, shinigami bums that got murked by bambis and everything else all looked bad. Even if you don’t think dangai joie looked bad at all it certainly didn’t look fantastic. And the bigger problem is that it moved so stiff. 3d is supposed to make it easier to animate but they were so unambitious with the choreography and movement of the CGI it could’ve easily been 2d with how little it did. Unless they get better animators who are skilled in it using more 3d will be worse. If you’re going to use 3d then there’s literally no excuse not to have tons of sakuga regardless of how complex the design is. That’s the whole point of CGI in anime. Same problem as everything else in tybw. Just need better animators.

Other dude is trying so hard for the CG but it stank with Shinji & Komamura. I agree that Bankai are the only exception. Byakuyas pettles etc looked amazing. Quincy arrows etc work too with their contrast to a more modern used toolkit. All Quincy stuff in CG except for Ryukdn & later Uryu would be awesome.

I've responded to a few people here about the CGI, so I'm going to put my full thoughts on it here: When it comes to things like Pernida and Gerard, then yes, the CGI is probably just unnecessary. But when it comes to Lille, that's a different story. The fact is, it's very possible that Lille's entire body will be the same material (I.E., same appearance) as his wings, meaning the same color, rippling patterns, sparkling, pulsing, etc.. If they want to animate that, then they'd better have some sort of hyper-advanced artificial intelligence, because there is absolutely no way any human is going to put up with animating each individual frame of Lille's entire body moving, contorting, pulsing, rippling, sparkling, glowing, and so on, in any reasonable amount of time. It's CGI, or bust.

The wings on lille are most likely going to stay cgi but the body is seperated and is not that advanced to draw, if its prioritized scene its going to be fully 2d body. The question is how much details are going to disappear in the movements if its becoming an sakugafest moment.

I think the most amusing part is As Nodt being the character *Kubo* made having his character trait being yapping ominously too much to the extent they actually had to cut out the ending visuals just to make room for everything in Episode 19.

CGI is being used here for a couple reasons not being said. This is a “new” production company and one of their first products so they obviously want it to be a tech demo (same way CSM was). CGI in anime has honestly gotten pretty good and is cheaper (CSM, Fate, JJK, RWBY, even Yama’s Bankai looked pretty good) I do worry about CGI for 1 singular character on screen for a long amount of time. The best way to intigrate is backgrounds, one part not on screen for very long, or everything. Going in the middle gets rough

"CGI in anime has honestly gotten pretty good and is cheaper" A popular misconception that's been debunked by inudstry people. CGI is more expensive compared to 2D animation, but it's less time consuming and more efficient especially for things that are hard to do for traditional artists.

@@kaigunz2251 it very much depends. The vast majority of cost of creating anime is just the time of animating. So in cases where many models are reused (like season 2 of any anime with CGI) it will be much much cheaper. Also in cases where there are many objects, like an army of soldiers, it is much cheaper to CGI. You make one, copy paste, and then pose. Compared to drawing each one over and over again. It also is always on model so there is not really a need for corrections (just correcting posing, but that should be handled by storyboard). So whenever it is all new models, CGI being used where it is not as efficient, it is more expensive, but any other case it is cheaper

I'm fine if the anime isn't trying to run in a new direction with the adaptation. Bring the scenes on the panel to animation or to life doesn't mean straying off the path. What additions and shifting around scenes from the manga where already liberties taken. I'm not a big fan of side tracking the story because people want a DBZ Broly Movie spectacle wedge in a plot that is on rails. I didn't appreciate it from the 05 anime when it came to the Hueco Mundo and Fake Karakura arc. Still wish there wasn't any CGI. I still don't like the way it looks. It's ALWAYS noticeable and not in a good way. It very clearly clashes with the rest of the imagery and stands out as something "different" on the screen. For instance you almost never hear someone say "that CGI was amazing", you mostly hear "that CGI wasn't bad". The bar is so low for CGI that "wasn't bad" is acceptable. It's getting used more and more, every new anime has CGI now... It's why I'll never touch a full CGI series like the new Trigun. Regardless of how "wasn't that bad" it is, I don't want it being used even more. Which is what will happen the more people settle and accept it.

JJK used shit ton of cgi, they had an sequence where we were looking through Yuji in POV and everything was cgi when he was running, not to mention Naruto had cgi back in the day with rock lee vs gaara as the surrounding was fully 3d when it went circling. Its not like those tails monsters had much movements to begin with which is the issue with going full 2d which is why many studios today prefer doing 3d over 2d because its very nitpicking as most people dont really care about it. Also Boruto did have much more cgi later on, if there is someone you should blame for this its Mappa and Ufotable for popularizing 3d in anime being more acceptable.

And that's what I mean Pierrot is trash they haven't used CGI effectively at all it's AOT lvls of terrible especially Sajin's and Shinji's Bankai. Mappa and Ufotable aren't the cause of CGI being prevalent they're just the ones who raised the bar on what Cgi should look like if you know what you're doing Trigun stampede is a great example. Bleach's Tybw adaptation has been subpar at best and it's because of the inept studio it was a huge mistake of Kubo's part to allow this and it shows in the ratings and peoples indifference towards it.

If there is more CGI, they better have top tier animation during those moments, otherwise it will be a waste yet again as We got a run and a few swings. Kubo is carrying so hard with this adaptation. It’s sad that Taguchi is all talk, and when it comes to the execution of the material that is already in the manga, it’s all rushed to get to the snippets of new material. Even then when it came to the new fights, they were underwhelming. The new story content is good though, but it’s not enough to salvage the entire anime. I get that maybe it’s not Taguchi’s fault, maybe Pierrot is just so incompetent with staff management, but at some point you have to take responsibility as you are the leader of the team and simply talking about things you want to do and add doesn’t mean that the execution, or lack thereof, means it will be good. The dude “PARTIALLY” story boarded 2 eps in cour 2… The animation within the fights themselves are either meh or just plain boring besides ep 6 & 7. It sort of starts to pop off with the Mask fight, the Ichigo vs Bambies and Byakuya vs Robert, but it never takes off and is super brief. Such a frustrating adaptation. I hope cours 3 & 4 are much better and are given better treatment by Pierrot. It’s safe to say that Taguchi’s direction has not worked for me in the first 2 cours and I don’t think he is the right fit for Bleach.

If you want an anime to come out quicker, CGI will definitely be used. animes like, Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on titan, Land of the Lustrous Beastars, etc, have really great CGI. In simpler terms, fans are hungry for the anime to release and always ask the studio for the release date. the studio is hungry for money, they'll do anything to release faster. releasing it asap = rushed production. rushed production= CGI. CGI isn't always bad. It can be good at times, if used correctly. It has not ruined anime.
