This man can single-handedly do more in terms of promoting the NHL than Bettman and co.

Them not being able to promote the NHL is an indictment to ESPN and the league itself. But at the same time a lot of people have to understand that hockey players are a lot different than most sports athletes.

Growing up 60s -70s, -that's the way it was-they were the same fans. But remember there weren't nearly as many teams in either league. NHL and NBA cities/fanbases were the same fans, there were a lot fewer, 4-6 channels, nothing else on TV! They made our daily newspaper headlines. The athletes were accessible, we saw them around town, fishing in Maine... They lived among us-they weren't paid anywhere near what they get now! Carlton Fisk lived down he road, my sister dated a Celtic, (I'm guessing she would have preferred to date the entire team-did I say that? 🤔) They were local celebrities. And we didn't walk around with cell phone cameras. Not so much hockey players cuz they were nearly all Canadian. They went home off-seaso But they were fun to spit at, or throw shoes. 😊 First color tv I recall seeing bruins black & gold and Celtic green. Then Patriots red, white, and blue came in. Yet everybody watched high school & college ball, not the AFL, then NFL, back then so much until mid later 70s. Patriots were boring til Brady- Belichick It's ironic how you're amazed that these fans can come together, when I've tried to figure out what happened to rip us apart to begin with... Johnny Bucky/ Bobby Orr fans, were also Bill Russell & Larry Bird fans. We were all Wilt, Magic, Jordan, Gordie Howe, Gretzky, Jagr fans But not so much anymore. They've commercialized both sports, watered them down into gambling "entertainment." Ticket & jersey prices have also gotten outrageous. We never paid money to watch sports-we paid by watching the commercials. Now we pay a cable bill to watch commercials! Mickey Mouse's ESPN+ app is all we have-until playoffs. Then we're back to cable So they've done a hell of a job ruining both sports Especially telling us how racist we are.

Chuck should and could be an analyst with the Finals. Hockey and basketball both have the same playoff format, its 5 on 5 team sport, roughly the same game duration, same amount of games, same time of season, mostly plays in the same arenas and cities, shape/playing surface isn't terribly different, same "objective" of putting an object in a basket; these two sports overlap despite the fans not liking the other. They NEED Charles, no two ways about it.

We had no salary cap in the NHL and it gave us the 2001 Red Wings hall of fame team, we don’t need that again in the NHL. The parity we have today is so much more enjoyable as a fan to watch than what we had prior to 2005-2006. What needs to happen though is yearly increases to the salary cap so teams can retain the stars they draft while maintaining a competitive club.
