Note from an arborist: Apricot, peach, cherry, plum, nectarine, and almond (and several others) are all in the same genus, Prunus. Also known as stone fruits, they all have an almond-like kernel inside the pit.

Chicagoan here, who goes to school and learned to drink in Wisconsin. The supper club is one of my all-time joys, being able to pile in with friends and feel fancy while also getting dinner for 3 whole days 👌 though I've never had a pink squirrel - need to change that.
@CrazyCatzLady20254 ай бұрын
I'm 74. These were the drinks I started out with in 1970. You can still find Grasshoppers in bars but when I ask for a pink squirrel, I get a blank stare. I'm now going to make my own. Thanks for demo.

When I was younger and Rustic Manor in Gurnee was still standing. Our company had it's annual Christmas party there. I was introduced to pink squirrels. After enjoying 6 of them I was blasted. I don't remember the rest of the evening and part of the next day. I haven't drank them since then and that's over 30 years ago. But boy oh boy are they good. Also, I used to love going to Wisconsin's supper clubs back in that era. Also, you can buy Green colored Crème de Menthe at Binney's.

Spot on description of the fabled WI supper club. First thing upon entering for me is a brandy old fashioned…preferably with J Bavet. A friend of mine sent me this video on Christmas, told him I’ve heard of the pink squirrel but never had one, and then we had friends from WI over last night and they showed up with an ice cream pail of pink squirrel and another of blackberry brandy slush. True ambassadors!

I appreciate this channel. Thank you for covering campy drinks like this! As someone who grew up in Minnesota, the Grasshopper was always a staple at family holiday gatherings as a kid, but I’ve never had one. Time to change that.

We used to drink Pink Squirrels by the gallon in mid-90s Portland. Between bands at the Mt. Tabor Theater, we’d go across the street to The Space Room for drinks. When we asked the servers what was in a Pink Squirrel, they’d just say, “liquor and love, baby!”

Eastern Wisconsin Friday fish fry with lake perch. Top 10 best food ever. And I liked the Manhattan at many Wisconsin super clubs. And don't be the first ice cream dessert drink of the night if you like your bartender or really big tip!
@staciecampbell50782 жыл бұрын
I’ve made the non-ice cream versions of these and for the grasshopper, equal parts of crème de menthe and crème de cocoa makes it tastes like toothpaste. I cut the crème de menthe by half and it was much better. For the pink squirrel I could not find crème de noyaux so used Ameretto with a drop of red food coloring and it was delicious .

Anders, this reminds me of the Golden Cadillac, made famous at Poor Reds in the Gold Country outside of Sacramento. This small, one room bbq joint (building from the 1850s) is the world's #1 seller of Galliano. People pack the place and they turn this frozen drink out non-stop.

The grasshopper used to be Pat Martino's drink of choice, back when he was playing at Small's Paradise in Harlem and other venues in New York and Jersey. After Pat's brain surgery and subsequent amnesia, he was reminded of his prior drink preference by none other than Joe Pesci, who, believe it or not, used to be a singer in cabarets and clubs on the East Coast before he became an actor.

Grew up in Michigan eons ago and recall supper clubs ( I think Flint had Walli's Supper Club). Family holiday up near Pellston MI where local restaurants featured "boasted chicken"--you are the first person I've heard in about 40 years reference "boasted chicken." I was beginning to think I'd made that up! Alas, no fancy mocktails in our world.

Per your recommendations, I picked up A bottle of Italicus from curiada. It smells divine but also smells like a car air freshener. But nonetheless delicious. Esp in a gin sour with Ransom gin. 1:1:1 and half oz syrup. I personally think the bergamot in the Italicus and the cardamom in ransom pairs decibels together. But I’m also kinda drunk so there’s that. Cheers ! I call it “ squeaky clean”.
