not me watching this thinking, I can't relate, then it suddenly hits me, Oh my God I am in a blended family. My parents passed on when i was quite young, knowledgeable but young. My dad's brother took me in, just the two of us before he took on a wife and for the longest time my now siblings have always known i am their first born, i think they still think this. Me forgetting this speaks volumes of the way they raised me and it's not even a bad picture on my biological parents. I remember it took a minute before i called my dad DAD, i used to whisper it and if he didn't hear i'd call him Uncle. Until one day, i whispered dad and he said sema mum and oooh my heart melted...huh..fun....and oh my God Murugi how don't you know Johnte if John-te

I am a child of a blended family. I feel like the introduction with our step dad was rushed. And he is a good parent but until today there is no bond at least from my side. My mum just came and was like "children this is your dad, get used to it".... Personally i feel like I've never been close to him because we don't have a connection and maybe I've never accepted. So I agree it's good to take kids slowly over that process.

What a relatable topic to me! I come from a step mum kind of blended family and we are solid. Thanks to our Dad who is 'our everything' to everybody in the family. We've had issues and still do but we know we are family no matter what.We choose each other everyday, forgive and strengthen our relationships. It's a journey for sure.

In African families its usually do as I say so the "exaggerated" scenarios you guys described actually happen so often because our parents were not raised to ask of children's opinions (generation X). Such an important topic to talk about!

I found myself in a blended family. I felt rushed into calling her mom and just having to deal. The energy was just off regardless of everything. I always felt different, like an outsider. It is wrong for grown ups to make some decisions for their children independent of their thoughts and emotions. Children are future adults. Lets consider that when dealing with them. It just gives a fresh perspective.
