Yes, many thanks to Sergey, and Bastien and Jeroen and all others as well! I think it's a natural symptom of seeing all this development through Pablo's twitter, so a lot of it is gonna be attributed to him, it's like congratulating Bill Gates for the achievements of Microsoft, sure he spearheads the progress but it involves a lot of other scientists and engineers in the company too, but people only get to see Gates speaking, demonstrating, etc so that's who comes up to mind when talking about it, I guess it's the same way here, with Pablo posting all of this on his twitter and most people getting to see that there and mistakenly attributing all of it to him alone, he's amazing, but we shouldn't put pressure on individuals nor discount others involved in the progress made. I love all the stuff yall are doing over at the Blender Institute and I can't wait to see how you're gonna use these new developments in your sculpting moving forward, Julien! :)

truth is Multires is great after it was fixed, but I can't get Shapekey to work with Multires. is there no way to store Morph like in Zbrush?

Finally I can test that feature. I have been waiting for this for months. Finally you can switch back to lower subdivision levels in sculpt mode. Also the rebuild feature is awesome. I want this now and not just in 2.9.

The thing about the Multires feature is that it seems to be really performance heavy, even on really good computers. I hope they sort this out.

Would be great if you make a video about using Face Sets effectively. Like how it really works. I see it can be used to hide certain parts of topology to sculpt on a specific area, can be used to pose, etc. So, yeah a practical use case of the Face sets brush would be appreciated.

the glitch youre referring to is not really a glitch but the mesh itself in lowest poly while and was smooth. Zbrush uses Flat shading all the way so it look cleaner in Zbrush.

before you could export lowpoly and highpoly and by using shrikwrrap and mutires modifier you can get the same thing in less time.
@RicoCilliers
@RicoCilliers 4 жыл бұрын
unfortunately not. the multires modifier did not behave like this in 2.8. it was possible to get multiple subdivisions with shrinkwrap, but you could only edit the highest level. before 2.8 it was possible to edit multiple levels, i believe, but very buggy. also I think this is far easier than the shrinkwrap method.

As a Zbrush user, you're probably familiar with polygroups and deformation dials. I've watched some stuff on face sets, but they look like they are specific to sculpting. I love been able to set difference parts of a mesh to polygroups in Zbrush - do you know of anyway to do it in Blender? Honestly, I'm more fond of HOPS/Boxcutter than sculpting for creating details as I am mostly interested in hardsurface modeling.
@RicoCilliers
@RicoCilliers 2 жыл бұрын
i know you can use UV maps to do this. zbrush can recognize each UV area and assign polygroups to it. its a bit of a hack but I use it quite a lot. :)

I'm using Blender. I'm creating a VIDEO GAME, I just created over 200 full body characters from here to toe in blender. I just need to add fine detail like wrinkles, the puffiness under the eyes etc. What is the best method to use DYNTOPO or MULTI-RESOLUTION? But I DON'T want to go through the trouble of Retopologzing all 200 characters just so it could render I just want a straightforward flat answer. Thank you.

Thanks Rico - for this very inspiring video. A question : My computer is 16 gb ram size, which i think is good, but not great, - and when i subdivide with multires 2-3 times my fil very easy reach 3-400 mb, and then it collapse. Is this normal? I tryed to import a big obj fil with 3 subdivision levels from zbrush , but Blender collaps. Is ther e a Blender version who is better for not collapsing and chrashing ? regards Frank Fenriz DK

as amazing as this multires is, its still incompatible when combined with Armature and Shapekey, like it will literally break your mesh if you save your file and load back and reset pose, so watch out!!

If I start with a mesh with good edge flow and dont use dyntopo but just increase the mesh and start sculpting a face for example, does this also mean that there is no need for retopology?
@RicoCilliers
@RicoCilliers 4 жыл бұрын
Yes. If you dont use destructive increase methods. Best way would be to use multires or subdvision from the start.

Is this almost like Instant Retopo?
@RicoCilliers
@RicoCilliers 4 жыл бұрын
not quite. Let's say you have a mesh that you subdivided several times, and then you applied the subdivisions so that you can sculpt very small details. well that's a destructive way of editing, and it means you won't easily be able to do large changes anymore because the mesh is too dense. That's where this multires rebuild feature comes in extremely handy. :). (among other things).
@sebas1111_
@sebas1111_ 4 жыл бұрын
I don't understand how you have the Sculpt slider in the Multires panel even though I read that the feature was removed in October 2019. If you download blender now, August 2020, you don't have that. That *essential* feature is literally unusable now.

Hmm, I'm having some issue with my sculpt subdivision rebuild... "Not valid subdivisions found to rebuild lower levels " So I'm trying to remesh with quads, but then I'm getting this: "QuadriFlow: The mesh needs to be manifold and have face normals that point in a consistent direction "

@@sh4dow2a Well, I've been testing it. It happens that you cannot rebuild a mesh if you haven't applied multires to it. I was trying to do with a mesh I sculpted with dynotopo when I got the error.
@sh4dow2a
@sh4dow2a 3 жыл бұрын
@@guierumerb9498 ok so the way to do it would be you sculpt with dyntopo, you remesh your sculpt, voxel then quads, then applying a multires modifier, and only then rebuild it ?

Sorry but this feature is barely usable. Second level of subD and Blender is already dead, cannot even compare by far to zbrush and still wouldn't allow you to use the feature at all.
@RicoCilliers
@RicoCilliers 3 жыл бұрын
Depending on your PC and mesh. If you try to subdivide a bad topology mesh you will have bad performance. I get around 10-15 million quads on a well modeled mesh in blender 2.90.1
