5 years using Blender, and there are always new thing to discover. Thank you for the UV magic! 🍻

Haha, I feel you! I've been using Blender for around 5 years too, but 3D for more like 15 years! And it's still nearly every day there's something new to learn 🤩

I think you have a really good channel here. It’s quick enough you don’t need to skip but slow enough to follow along with. I’d have liked a video on how you do the emission / bloom in Cycles
@JamieDunbar Жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. I'll add a blood tutorial to the list 😉 The short version though, is you want to look for the "glare" node in the compositor.

Great video, Jamie. I had no idea that the "L" function had a menu I could choose 'seams' from!! You learn something new every day 🙂
@JamieDunbar Жыл бұрын
Oh brilliant! That'll be a game changer then. Some of the others like "UVs" are really useful too. There's one project I use it on all the time to help me colour parts of an object. Do you know about the "ctrl + L" menu in object mode? It lets you do a whole heap of stuff like linking materials, copying modifiers, copying UVs...really useful.
@TomWDW1 Жыл бұрын
@@JamieDunbar - I *do* know about ctrl+L. I use that all the time! :-) I use L all the time, too - but I always thought it just selected independent islands 🙂

it would be nice for you to have like a keygrabber that shows what keys you are pressing so that its easier for us begginers to do it like you
@JamieDunbar9 ай бұрын
Yeah sorry. I made this tutorial very soon after the 4.0 update and none of the keygrabbers had been updated yet 😢 I've used one in most of my old videos, and any future videos will have it again.

What if you want to use a texture instead of a basecolor?
@JamieDunbar2 ай бұрын
At 4:55 in the video we add the “mix node” so we can layer the base colour and the elvish text. Instead of the gold colour, plug your texture into this slot 👍
@reggyproduction36312 ай бұрын
@@JamieDunbar Yeah but there is an seam around the text, it shouldn't be so, how to UV unwrap if i'm using a texture.
@JamieDunbar2 ай бұрын
@@reggyproduction3631 It's very dependent on what texture you're using. If you have a tiled texture, you may be able to tile it across the ring without getting seams. You might be able to use either the "object" or "generated" slot on the "texture coordinates" node, rather than the "UV slot. And if none of that works, you may need to create a texture specifically for the UV map. There's also a fairly advanced workflow where you can create two completely different UV maps, then combine them in the material editor. But that's getting well beyond the scope of this tutorial.

why did blender 4.3 have to change every single thing, as i cant find the bloom in the render settings even when using the search function
@JamieDunbar2 күн бұрын
Oh shoot, that’s a really good point. I haven’t updated to 4.3 yet (still finishing off old projects) but I believe bloom was removed from Eevee in 4.3. It now needs to be done in the compositor.

hi i have problem, on my ring i have glowing strait line when blender made seam
@JamieDunbar8 ай бұрын
There's a few things it could be. Your UVs might be ever so slightly misaligned. It might also be the very slight blur Blender puts on your textures (very normal for 3D programs and there's good reasons for it - but it is confusing). Most likely the easiest way to fix it though, is to go to your UVs and scale them down slightly on the Y-axis. That should clip out the glowing seam line.

It's a pity that you don't turn on the display of hotkeys

Yeah my timing on making this video was bad. 4.0 had just released and the hotkeys addon hadn’t been updated yet 😔 It’s working again now, so it’ll be back in further videos.

Might be a stupid question but when you mention to press (-1). Do you press (- and 1) or is it a single hotkey. I couldn't find an answer when looking it up. Thanks in advance.
@JamieDunbar7 ай бұрын
Oh yes, it’s “-“ and “1”. It’s a rather cool feature of Blender. You can use that two-hotkey press on just about anything, like moving an object forwards or backwards.
@ItzHakon7 ай бұрын
@@JamieDunbar Thanks for the response. It for some reason didn't flip/mirror the text but I will try and see if I find a solution :)
