I'm looking forward to more tutorials like these, focusing on creativity. I'm really interested in compositing in Nuke or something similar. Blender's compositing is somewhat slow, to be honest. By the way, will your next paid course focus on Nuke for compositing when the time comes?

The weird thing about blender EXR multi-channel files is that Blender for some reason has different naming scheme for beauty RGBA. So instead of RGBA blender calls it by the name of the layer (View layer by default) and you need shuffle node in Nuke for every read node that carries blender EXR to shuffle out the ordinary RGBA image. Otherwise the screen is black.

Are you using a file output node? If so then I’ve had it work in the past by just naming the layer rgba and nuke recognized it as the beauty pass. Haven’t done it in a while but might be revisiting it soon so I’ll test.

When importing the AGX sequence into Davinci resolve, the animation looks a lot darker and saturated than in Blender (with 'standard' selected) - would you know what color space transform to select in Resolve to get AGX to display properly?

Honestly I don’t know exactly, but I believe Blender renders out in sRGB. Again not too sure there as I don’t use Davinci for compositing

Tons of new features, but the biggest for VFX is AGX color transform. Basically it gives higher dynamic range for CG rendering which is what I go over in this tutorial. There are plenty of quality of life changes so I recommend checking it out!

I believe it has to do with video formats. Try importing it as an image sequence and see if that works. Figures crossed!

Honestly depending on how much motion blur there is, blender might not be able to track it. It always goes back to knowing how to shoot vfx before you even think about touching the camera. I’ve had many people come to me with already shot footage and I’ve had to turn them down because it was filmed in a way that would’ve been impossible to track. Hopefully you can figure something out if it’s locked but if not try reshooting the footage with a high shutter speed or less quick camera movement. Hope that helps!

You need to have 8 trackers to successfully reconstruct the camera motion. To set the floor/wall you need to have three trackers **selected** and then you can click on the button.

Why Agx they should add ACES Colorspace which is much better and give more realistic result

Yeah such a shame that they haven’t adopted it yet. I do believe there are some ACES workarounds with blender but I have really gone too deep into it. Unfortunately blender is still very disconnected from the industry and much more of a animation 3d tool than anything so they always cater towards that side. But hey for free it’s still 90% of the way there and really only affects us industry people that know what we’re doing!

You’re totally right, I actually do all of my shots in nuke. I only use blender for compositing in videos since that what’s my channel focuses on and I always get negative feedback when I’ve used nuke to complete a shot. It’s tough since Blender is totally free so trying to convince someone to use an expensive alternative never works. I’ve even had issues when recommending people to use free alternative like davinci or natron so it’s probably just a laziness problem but who knows
