What a wonderful founder and Chairman. Ton Rosendaal is a big role model and I would like to approach leadership the way he does. He makes the everyone in the community feel like they own a piece of blender and yet everybody knows it was his brainchild. And that's why people keep working selflessly to improve it even when finances are scarce.

Ton is such an awesome guy and I'm so glad that I had a chance to meet him in person. Also super happy to see him is such great shape and full of energy

The most amazing and interesting explanation of copyrights. Who knew, that the Blender chair could even make this crude topic compelling and easy to understand. Blender is easily one of my favorite applications of all time. I learned 3d on Softimage XSI and really didn't think anything could really take its place. Blender changed that and i am so proud of all of the hard work that has gone into the software. Thank you all

In this world, Blender is a GOD DAMN MIRACLE. I'm literally crying by happiness here. For all the reasons you all know even better than me.

6:52 this happened to a friend of mine. He made a tool to help with his work and his colleagues while he was working in one of these companies. When he moved out from the company, he wasn't allowed to keep the tool. Note the tool wasn't the work that he was supposed to do for the company. He made the tool to help if the job so that he and his colleagues could be more efficient. The interesting thing is that these big companies accuse free software doing something that they are actually doing. My friend after the occurred started to make a better tool that now is now famous and probably its used even in the company that did that to him. The world goes round.
@bartoszstyperek630610 ай бұрын
did he coded the tool during work or after it?
@guilhermecampos831310 ай бұрын
@@bartoszstyperek6306 When he had already done his job for the day he would spend the the free time at work coding the tool. It wasn't meant do be for the company, he was doing it in his free time, but inside the company.
@richardbloemenkamp85327 ай бұрын
@@bartoszstyperek6306 It also depends on the contract he signed. Normally in the contract it is mentioned that relevant work you do in your free time, very close to your job become company IP as well. This is a bit normal because else people would keep all good ideas for themselves saying that they invented/made them in their free time. Then they could even charge the company extra or stop them using it. If you do not want this type of contract then you better be independent and consult to the company. In hindside what he could potentially have done, and only if the tool is sufficiently far from his job and/or sufficiently general, is to go to his manager before first use and introduction in the company. He could then have explained that he had this product that could be useful. Then his manager could have decided if the company would want to buy it from him for the company or not. If not the manager could still have decided to ask him to program a new tool with the desired functionality. I made many software tools for my company and I agree that they are company IP now. At the same time I obtained a lot of experience that would also be useful in another company. I cannot take my tools to another company, but I could program new tools in another company. As long as I don't infringe on patents and I don't use and company trade secret information, I can do that, and open source code / software can obviously be used in both.

I just love him, his down to earth style and his simplicity and his care and his enthusiasm. His jokes always makes me laugh 😅. Even during serious discussions he is very cool and enthusiastic. Without him blender wouldn't be here and none of us blender heads would be. Now saying all this I am not a pro and use blender a couple of time during work. But again I am using blender since 2.79 and before that in the 2000' s. But definitely it is soon going to be my main software. Thank you Ton Roosendaal❤😊 for your gift and your openness and to all the developers behind this wonderful software

Can't thank that guy enough, he has improved Blender to not only be a competitor, but is including everything the "main" ones have. I still miss c4d mograph, but nodes on blender will surpass it I think. n thing I miss in Maya is the spot on moving when modelling, but blender will get there, better splines would help too. ( like mayas)

16:23 I think Ton misunderstood the "plugin version of Blender" what he is explaining is like stripping Blender to become a C/C++ library to be added to other DCCs, but people are requesting a plugin system (as in Maya or Houdini) to be able to extend Blender using its C/C++ API, in the current design if you want to add a new feature to Blender you need to modify the source code of Blender and build it with your feature in it, this is very limiting and practically impossible to combine two independent new "plugins"...

It’s was a crazy self shooting in the foot talk. Not sure about the terms about making in-house tools with a gnu program, but selling them after you got fired? People are selling commercial addons. Companies could too, because they have the rights for the labor of their employers? From a Pr standpoint, It’s a really crazy and scary way to start a conference.
@GauthierKERVYN11 ай бұрын
Ah, here is the only other critic comment about this crucial topic. I am also worried that there may be a great loss in the theoretical conception of the GPL (and CC-SA) licenses caused by the rising use of Blender within the private companies and this particular presentation.
