Here I've got this nice cartoon bear model created by Sketchfab user Jose Díaz. However I'd like to put some clothes on him to make the character a bit more unique (before we get sued by Disney!). quick point: when you press Shift-D to duplicate, make sure "Auto Merge Vertices" isn't on, or all the vertices will merge back down into the mesh and you won't have a separate piece to make a new object.

I honestly would rather model the clothe instead of sewing it. I mean it looks good but would that be good for ingame character? IF i was making multiple clothes to be equipped and so on

Just what i looked for! Ive been looking everywhere how to make clothes myself in Blender for some game characters I created in MBlab (MB Lab dont have clothes the way MakeHuman does and MH is unavaible for the Linux distro I use on this computer, Deepin) and it turned out it was this easy in the end making your own clothing! No need for plugins or complicated modelling methods taking hours or even days even for a skilled modeller. This method solved it for me! Then afterwards I just UV map a costume texture on that wich also allows me to use any texture and design and then I have myself hopefully a good looking steampunk character ready for animation and then into Unity.

Alt + S is actually the shortcut for the Shrink/Flatten Tool in Edit mode. Also, an easier way to cancel selection while in circle tool is to click the wheel mouse button on the faces u want.

You don't have to duplicate it, you can just select it and seperate it, as long as the selection is not loose mesh, it will automatically duplicate it when seperated.

Yeah, I mean, this only works with a well topologized base mesh with good flow. For anyone missing that, try shrinkwrap.

Just wanna point out that this will only work on rigs that already have their armature modifier applied, so trying to use the modifier on your clothing without it applied first would result in weird forms with the clothing.

Hey, I would like to ask a quick question please answer😢 I see that the tshirt that you created is following the exact squares that the body has. I will create a base of a backpack from a human body with this method but the lines of the backpack is not following the squares of the body. How can I do it?

This makes a lot of sense, but I was wondering.... if the goal is to 3d print a character model, how can you avoid gaps between the new clothing mesh and the model? How can you easily ensure that no such gaps exist between the two meshes (clothing and character body). I would really appreciate some feedback on this since this is what I am currently struggling with! Thanks!

In that case make sure the meshes overlap by increasing the thickness, you can also have the thickness go both directions.

I can't even get past the first step. I can do the wireframe X-ray mode, but when I click C to color out my clothes nothing happens.

C is the shortcut in Edit Mode for Circle select. It doesn't really have anything to do with color. To select with Circle select mode, you have to hold LMB and drag on the surface of the mesh.
