This is very hard to explain, but here goes. I heard your comment about not over applying clear on the fenders, cause it will likely darken the panel to the adjacent panel after the papers removed. This happens, and hears the fix. I recently learned, before sanding the panel use compound and polish the area where the fender and door seam is. Polish about a foot into each panel. Now you have a very clean area to prep. Its crazy, and makes very little sense, but it works. I didn’t believe it until they took a headlight and compounded half the light, then water sanded the whole light, Applied clear, the area that was previously sanded was jet clear, the other was muddy. As I said, I didn’t believe it either, now i always do it, especially on high met….once you try it you will see with your own eyes. I used to water sand with a little soap and yet it still darkened and I never new why, its cause the paint is so dirty even on a vehicle that’s a year old. Cheers!

Nice blend Gab. I agree like to paint the whole hood when I can. Where I am located I use solvent base materials. I never shot any water borne product.

Ever use t490 to do blends? Usually I’ll cover a panel in t490 clear base, and with silvers I’ll add 10% more thinner (water) just helps my silvers moddle less. I also do double control coats. T490 works on good blends very well though. Cheers!

+Joel Langton yeah I have!! It works great! Just for silvers sometimes it darkens the blend panels but not all the time.

I use the lph400 w the 1.4 and I shoot at around 22psi at the gun and I have good results but I’m thinking of upgrading to the ws400 1.3 just from Gabe using it on this channel and I would like to move faster, lol. I just bought the Walcom HVLP 1.3 cause of him and hope to get it soon. Thanks again for this channel, I’ve been using microfiber in the booth and love it. I don’t know if you take requests but I don’t think you have a video on prepping and I think there are a lot of us out there that have to prep themselves and could pick up some tips.

Os it really necessary to zblend or paint the hood. To shoot a front cover... the way the bumper falls away from the hood should distract from a 100%butt match. And do just the tips of fender where itmeets the bumper. ? Envirobase is new too me.. so im curious about this. It would be an extremely rare case to blend out a hood. For a front cover replacement... and getting the insurance co. To cough up the bucks is another story entirely... butgreat video... not challenging it. Just curious.. about it asWater is new too me or rather about to be

We don't always get the blends but we do ask for them and when we get them we take them. Envirobase has very good color matches though

I know you can use any gun for anything and make it work or suites your style but I thought generally you'd use a sata hvlp gun not rp for metallic base? would love your thoughts on this thanks
@MOTIVATEDPAINTERS7 жыл бұрын
+Remington Atcheson hey brother it's just personal opinion and preference I like the way that it lays the base down it works for me as of the techniques I am not sure !
@james376037 жыл бұрын
when you say control coat in general you are keeping gun further away to keep the metallic upright and random? Then you would be going to coat to dusting on blend area? For solvent based, does inter-coat clear help? I think water they say works better for blending in general. Thank you
@MOTIVATEDPAINTERS7 жыл бұрын
+james37603 not sure about solvent since I don't spray solvent, control coat is further away with lower pressure and not wet just how I show in all the silver videos 😀 thanks for the support!!!!

Why didn't you use a wet bed for bleeding here? Or is it not needed always? I'm trying to learn to blend silver and all these different videos of some using a wet bed and some not are confusing me. Please help
@MOTIVATEDPAINTERS5 жыл бұрын
To be safe always use it. Specially in hot weather
@carsandbeatzofficial75455 жыл бұрын
@@MOTIVATEDPAINTERS thank you sir. One last question on this I promise. I've heard that you need to let the wet bed dry before applying base over it. Is this true? I've seen some that they apply base while still wet and some say to let dry first.
@MOTIVATEDPAINTERS5 жыл бұрын
That's paint company depending you need to ask the paint company info on that for ppg envirobase you need to wait
@mrmuskey52025 жыл бұрын
Looks painful, Axalta is easy peasy. There is no sand piling with Axalta, Because its coat and half all wet, For example- if you sprayed a black complete then let dry then take a brand new tack cloth, and tack , your tack cloth with not show and signs of black overspray cause there is no overspray,

Sometimes I get small bubbles on the surface of my clear on my blend panels. Usually tack clothing before shooting clear helps but then I can see swipe marks from tacking in silver colors. Any advice on avoiding bubbles?
@thistledewoutdoors33312 жыл бұрын
Could try using low tack tack cloths like crystal blue... Make sure your base is fully flashed off & make sure you wipe away the metallics that have landed beyond your blend.....

@baumau7 жыл бұрын
PPG is expensive because they can charge whatever they want....they classify their paint cost in codes and types a, b c etc.....i pay half a pint half a pint of regular VW white paint $38, for example.....that is why i use more of Debeer now .....and no, they dont tell you anything.....people that mix the paint dont care and PPG reps justify it by claiming it is better than other brands, which is hard to prove
@MOTIVATEDPAINTERS7 жыл бұрын
+Konstantin top- painting They don't tell me anything they are a big corporation and at this stage in my life I don't need to know why it's so expensive but I must focus on the work I am doing now. But that's just the way I look at it. +baumau thanks for your comment 😊

i changed from octoral/debeer to max meyer/ppg in the uk! and i can tell you that i save money using max meyer because the colour matches are 100% better and i don't waste time and paint trying to match a colour! max meyer also covers better so i use less materials! wish i changed years ago as i would be much better off!

Why you not paint the whole hood?

@nickscarletto70287 жыл бұрын
how do you avoid solvent pop on flat panels like the hood?we use envirobase like you although we use 4000 for clear.
@MOTIVATEDPAINTERS7 жыл бұрын
+nick Scarletto to much to fast to much to fast remember that next time you clear something. From the top of my head I will advice. Put one coat then resist resisssttttt from putting another coat before 5 minutes!! And if you know you have put a bit more clear than usual leave it to flash ten minutes before the next coat then leave for ten minutes before bake. Also watch your bake temp if you are baking over 165 it will pop hope that helps
@nickscarletto70287 жыл бұрын

Thank you so much for asking that question nick! And thank you so so so much motivated painter for sharing your knowledge.
@MOTIVATEDPAINTERS7 жыл бұрын
+Stephanie Tillotson +Nick Scarletto glad you asked! One of the biggest reasons for solvent pop on flat panels is this. To much to fast. A proper flash time in between coats will be the first thing to look at follow whatever you paint manufacture says on the tech sheet for me if I'm using ppg ec530 I'll let it flash ten minutes before putting my second coat on the I'll bake it at 165 for 25-30 mins. Using the proper hardener is very important as well if it is very hot outside you use a slower hardener or reducer
