the ironic part is for the longest time they said "diversity does not mean anti-white" here you have a con made on the claim black people need their own space which is segregation just self imposed cause black people didn't feel welcome at actual diverse conventions that didn't focus on race but claims to be diverse and welcoming and most the critics of her winning is hate and everything from saying she bought the costume even though she didn't to she was racist or ignorant. she won because the judges looked at the quality of the costumes, the girl with the I assume robot arms on her costume they looked like crap, they looked like card bored boxes and they drooped, the CCS cosplayer not only made her outfit she dyed the fabric her self and the the prop was perfect, everyone else's had minor flaws from wigs looking disastrous, crappy props, or poorly made costumes. not saying she should have entered. she won cause her costume got the most points.

I feel like as a ppl we need to stop saying we acknowledge that this isn’t for us but still give our time, money, and allegiance to something that is still NOT FOR US. In order to see change in these spaces we have to cut them out of our pockets which is why I will not be going next year and didn’t go this year. At this point they are simply pandering to the black community and a lot of us are falling for it yet again. This shit was unacceptable

during this whole thing ive seen other Blerds mention having a "safe space" and as a Blerd im a bit confused by what that means because ive never felt unsafe or uncomfortable at cons, so do other Blerds not feel safe at for lack of a better word "regular" cons?
@Moitie-Bae
@Moitie-Bae 3 жыл бұрын
@@TheJrockfreak Depends. In my experience, you’re not as noticeable in regular street clothes. If you’re in Cosplay, however, well, as much as I love the hobby, the Cosplay community isn’t that nice. For example, you’ll often see White people get praise for characters who are meant to be POC, meanwhile actual POC are called slurs and made to feel like they don’t belong in nerd spaces. I personally have been given dirty looks by a fellow cosplayer who proceeded to ask *why* I was even at a convention despite also showing up in full cosplay, they even said it wasn’t my kind of event. Due to quarantine the harassment has been purely on social media lately, so you can go to almost any Black cosplayer’s comments to see. Quite a few Black cosplayers are targeted online daily, some even received threats or were doxxed. Some even turned their comments off for awhile due to “monkey Hinata” or “Nezuko is not a n-word with a hard r” comments. Not every nerd space is like this, but enough people within them are to the point where a lot of Blerds feel the need to separate themselves for their own comfort. I mean, I can’t really blame them.

One of the judges mentioned having other categories like fan favorite, which is odd to me because I thought that was the norm in cosplay contests. I saw others saying it was short. So first thing, great video. To the point and not any boring filler ruining the topic. In my opinion, after today, Blerdcon is a convention highlighting that Black people are nerdy too. The whole idea is that we are tired of being stereotyped as thugs or whatever else. The con purpose is to show the world that our community has nerds like every other. The creator said anyone can be a Blerd. I feel he is saying your race alone doesn't make you a blerd. Nor does your love for nerdy things. A person that stand up and support Black Nerds and not putting us in a box of stereotypes is a Blerd. I'm aware I can be wrong. I look forward to the owner being called out on this topic so we can get clarification. My take from this experience is the con isn't racist. Anyone can go, compete, and have a decent chance of winning. I respect that even though I don't completely agree with it. I concede, when I first heard about Blerdcon, I assumed it was black owned and operated. I assumed that Blerds were Black Nerds by definition. That doesn't seem to be the case. Don't see it as a good or bad thing.

Being black is the bl part of being a blerd. You're not a blerd if you're not black. If he's just calling all attendees blerds because it's blerdcon, he needs to rethink his language. Because he's literally saying anyone can be black. The com is new and already black people are feeling ignored. They should allow anyone to attend but, imagine going to the naacp awards and a white woman won in a category. How would you feel? Black people are constantly told that regular cons and cosplay aren't for them because they don't naturally look like the characters they dress up as.

Second the one judge pissed me off with her post basically claiming the other cosplays where “ halloween costumes”. I’m no that girl with the mecha arms was most definitely not that low quality. And the judges aren't actively in the Cosplay/Costume making community to really be judges of the craft. So just fave value.

The judges had a lot seamstress bias and really shouldn't be up there....All the black blaming surrounding this thing is the worst part. The crazy paper bag comments from that judge is wild...

See, I’d wondered what the heck was going on when I heard that a white woman had won the cosplay contest. I was just… what? Because I was under the impression that it was a majority black convention, which is perfectly fine. I’m white, we’ve got tons of cons to go to, Blerds deserve a place of their own to unwind, relax, and have fun.

I wouldn't be surprised, I couldn't even be bothered to finish two minutes of the video since it didn't even take two minutes for her to start complaining about a white person winning something at a convention that's about including everybody and allowing everybody to participate in all aspects. I mean it's kind of your own fault if you are unhappy with what you see inside if you don't read the sign plastered at the front door describing what's inside so to speak.

1- According to social justice standards this is CULTURAL APPROPRIATION (of Japanese Anime Culture) 2- What kind of ultimate hulking bias makes it SEGREGATION when white people create spaces separated by COLOR, but when black people do it it's a good thing? (As for "Oh my God, can't we have anything?..." try watching TV Africa and see if you can find a single white person in there, and the kind of inclusiveness that you find in Western Media, I dare you) 3- What is being judged to win in this contest, the costume's craftsmanship, or is it how black you are? 4- Judging (what you would call hating) any person of any color for winning a black self-segregated event just because the COLOR of that person's SKIN, is ________ (fill in the blank) Yeah, you got it right, it's RACIST AF (not to mention SEXIST and MISOGYNISTIC because she's a woman) But then again, social justice ain't nothing but a snake eating itself from behind

Not even 2min in and I stop bothering to watch the video because she starts complaining when she finds out a white person won a contest at a convention that says on their own website that they are inclusive and everyone is able and encouraged to participate in all aspects of the convention. Of course I shouldn't have even bothered clicking on the video given the title and that should have been enough of a clue to me.

@@ygcosplay I'm sure that if it did that we would be laughing at each other. Me laughing at you because you have an issue with the convention that says itself that they are inclusive in all aspects and you laughing at me for pointing out that fact that you don't seem to like.

It's a convention for black nerds why is a white person even being the face of this event?

@@wandeesthoughts according to the "about blerdcon" section of the con's website it's not. You might think that from the name but you might want to read up on the con's own description about itself before saying it's for anything in particular.
