To this day, well over 20 years later, this song still makes me emotional. We need this kind of music to come back. It could easily ease tensions to those who listen.

Song gave me chills the same way it did nearly 15 years ago. Edit to correct my mistake, nearly 25 years ago, lol. Damn I'm old.

man this song is SO fucking tight. this guy still sounds absolutely killer. best part is when he begins singing.."but she believes that love will see it through, one day he'll understand..." fuck me, he just kills it vocally, i LOVE the strings that accompany that part. and honestly, i'm more often drawn to a song for the melody, and this one is amazing, not usually focusing on the lyrics, but it is impossible to deny how relevant the lyrics were when they were written, and unfortunately all-too relevant decades later. thank you for the video, hope you and your loved ones stay healthy and well my man.

It's sad that the things in this song, have only gotten worst today. The Artist's name Blessid Union of Souls, and the tone of the song, implies a spiritual meaning and message which too too often gets ignored.

This song breaks my heart because I can relate to it. I think I read somewhere that the man that wrote it is the one who is singing it. But he never got to date her. When she told her dad that she had a date with a black man he lost it and said to her that if she went out with him he would stop paying for her college education. The same thing happened to me. But I was 15 and was hanging around the local skating rink. I knew the boy that worked there part-time as a D.J. His name was Herbie. I had known him all that summer and he was a nice boy. I didn't see the color of his skin, I saw him as a person. He asked me out and I told him that I wasn't allowed to date til I was 16 but I will ask my dad if I could away. I gave Herbie my phone number and went home. As soon as my dad and I got home I asked him if I could go out with him and that Herbie was colored. Then the phone rang and I said that was going to be him. He told me to answer it and stood right in front of me and told me to tell Herbie that I couldn't go out with him because he was black. That was the hardest thing I ever had to do in my life. I knew I had hurt him and I was hurting for him. I had to tell him that he said not to call me again. I had never been more embarrassed and humiliated in my life. I cried for a long time when I went to bed. I never thought he was racist, I do now. This happened in 1977.
