I had to learn that same lesson about job idols. I went to school for animation, worked hard, reached out to people, did every freaking thing right, and God had me in customer service still. Laura has a point about how the reason for my, and Martin's, situation is to be testifying that we got there because of God. Not because we followed a formula. That's also a good point about how we men might attach our identity to jobs more, in light of providing for our families.

She led the worship songs during the service at the church I visited yesterday Adam Road Presbyterian Church in Singapore, when she sang Blessings and I saw the lyrics, it brought tears to my eyes.

This one hits me hard because I'm finding myself in the same place as Martin. I'm on SSD for the rest of my days... and God has had to strip away the definition of my life being in what I do and how I can provide for my family. I so appreciate how Laura admits she's broken and that's okay. My wife and I have had many struggles in our almost 20 years of marriage. We don't have any kids and honestly, that's a blessing. We've recently been put in a position where we can minister to others when that just hasn't been possible for our entire lives together. It absolutely humbles me that God would be able to take this physically and spiritually broken guy and use me to bring Him glory, but that is what He is doing. I don't deserve it. It's only by the grace of God that I can do anything. Thank you so much for this one. I so needed to see it.

Wow, your story is SO similar to my hubby and I... he had nasal cancer 5 years ago and treatment impacted his sight such that he's legally blind in one eye as well as his saliva was halved. If it weren't for modern technology, he would be incredibly limited.
