Dec 14th: the manufacturer sent me a firmware update which seems to fix the frame rate problem. The camera now appears to be recording at 25fps like it should.

Great Review! I completely agree with your anti-static film comments. I couldn't use it. The camera seems fine, but that is meaningless if you can't mount it.

I believe it was intended to be sticked to the plastic pad permanently and you could remove the camera and pad combo and then stick it again which works but you tried to remove the camera from the plastic which they probably never said was the purpose

I have the same dash cam. My pet peve is the same as yours as far as the mounting. I never used the silly plastic static sheet. I've experimented with many cameras too over a 5 year period. I had to have my windshield replaced so I used a heat gun on the outside of the windshield to heat up the adhesive and "twist" to remove it. Then to re-attach it I use 3M "Scotch" outdoor adhesive tape available at hardware stores. It's not the foam tape but the grey rubbery tape wrapped in red removable peel. Anyway, my major issue is the GPS. It shows I've been driving in China. I'm in Northern California. The firmware claims its up to date although the seller claims to update via the app to the latest version to correct it. So, yeah. Thanks for the video though.

Very detailed review. Unfortunately 3M glue doesn't last long in the Autsralian heat. Personally I prefer one with suction cup.

I would not recommend using anything but strong adhesive like 3M. Grey with a red peel. Very strong. The reason you don't want to use velcro is because the camera will vibrate and images will be blurred. In a serious accident it will probably be thrown off the windshield. Same reason you don't want to use a magnetic strip not to mention there is a gps module that may be disrupted.

Box, packaging etc. beautiful. The image quality is poor. I returned the product because the product might be defective. No malfunction, normal shooting quality returned. If you can't find a model that will try it first and then pay for it, I say don't take risks. (Turkey bought from Sherman Technology)

Neat looking thing, but the dealbrake for me is the ON light is on the left side of the camera. With steering wheel on the right, I wouldn't be able to tell if it's on or not. Yeah, nah...

It’s an old model that I don’t think they even make anymore. F800 Pro. Great except horrible image quality. I only got it because of the form factor.

Well, I have two of the Garmin minis. Even tho it’s got reliably issues the firm factor is critical to me. That being said I have a Thinkware F800 in my Jeeo. It has never misbehaved.

I’m not sure. That was a while ago. I think any kit with the same USB connector will work.

What I did was use a cigarette lighter recepticle with wires pre-attached and wired it to the fuse box. Then I just plugged the dash cam plug into it. Wrapped it a bit with electrical tape to prevent it from pulling apart. You can not just cut off the camera plug and wire it to the car because it's only 5 volts and your car is 12 volts. You'll ruin the camera.

It’s been over a year since I tested that camera, so I really don’t remember. It should just have its own WiFi network that you connect the phone to.

15:49 - 25fps DOES exist, might wanna fact check before you make claims like that. 25fps is unique to the PAL standard whereas 30fps is unique to NTSC, 23.978/24fps to cinema etc etc.

I have a Garman dash cam mini and two of my cars. Even though it will malfunction if you use parking mode, I still like it the best because of the small size. I simply have to turn parking mode off which is unfortunate.

Do you know what is NTSC and PAL ? 25 fps is a European standard and it exists. Anyway duplicating the frames is old chinese trick and it's so bad ...

Yes, PAL and NTSC are old analog television standards. However, it’s not a digital standard of any sort. 24 fps is still the film standard, but digital video is usually 24, 30, or 60fps. 25 is just some arbitrary attempt to save bandwidth.

Depends on your needs. For me the Garmin Mini is still the best option, but if you want top quality get a Thinkware or Blackvue.

In that case you probably want a more visible dash cam because you want the customer to know they’re being recorded. I don’t have any recommendations for a good dual cam unit because I have only tested some crappy no-name ones that I wouldn’t recommend.
