How to Model a Blind Tenon Joint in Fusion 360
In this Fusion 360 tutorial, I will show you how to model a blind tenon joint to use on a CNC machine. This is a great joint because it looks nice both on the inside and the outside of the joint, and it has a lot of nice glue surface. However, there are a couple of things you want to watch out for when adding the fillets that allow the router bit to get into the corners.
What You Will Need
* Fusion 360
* A computer with a mouse and keyboard
* A router bit that is the same size as the fillets you want to add
Instructions
1. Create a new Fusion 360 project.
2. Create a new component and name it "Mortise".
3. Create a sketch on the front face of the component.
4. Draw a rectangle that is the same size as the mortise you want to create.
5. Extrude the rectangle to the desired depth.
6. Create a new component and name it "Tenon".
7. Create a sketch on the front face of the component.
8. Draw a rectangle that is the same size as the tenon you want to create.
9. Extrude the rectangle to the desired depth.
10. Create a new sketch on the tenon component.
11. Draw circles that are the same size as the fillets you want to add.
12. Add the circles to the tenon component.
13. Extrude the circles to the desired depth.
14. Combine the mortise and tenon components.
15. Save your project.
Tips
* Make sure the mortise and tenon are the same size.
* Use a router bit that is the same size as the fillets you want to add.
* Add the fillets to the tenon component before combining it with the mortise component.
Benefits of Using a Blind Tenon Joint
* Blind tenon joints are strong and durable.
* Blind tenon joints are easy to create.
* Blind tenon joints can be used on a variety of projects.
If you are looking for a strong and durable joint that is easy to create, then I recommend using a blind tenon joint. Blind tenon joints are a great way to join two pieces of wood together, and they can be used on a variety of projects.
Blind mortise and tenon joints are a strong way to join plywood when making cabinets. This Fusion 360 tutorial shows how to design and 3d model blind mortise and tenon joints for fabrication on a CNC router.

There were so many great techniques demonstrated in this video. I have been using Fusion for years but still dont know the power of constraints and variables.

Fusion 360's real power is it's parametric features and editable design timeline, always new stuff to learn or other ways to do things, usually I only realize after I finish a new design that there was a much more efficient way of doing it

Thanks for the tutorial! I have a question. How could you go about streamlining this process, possibly creating some sort of preset to duplicate this all around a body

thank you for another excellent video for cnc enthusiasts. I had one question, when adding the fillets on the mortise and selecting the plane I somehow could not select all the pieces, then when creating the circles it only contraint to the first "block" the rest I could not contrain the centre of the circle to the edge of the other blocks because it seems only the one section was selected. To resolve this I made 3 seperate sketches. How did you get it right to select all 3 blocks of the mortise to sketch on?

If that happens and you can't select the lines, press p to project the lines into the sketch you're working on for the fillets, then you can select the lines that will become sketch lines linked to the geometry below Sometimes the plane gets in the way and you can't easily select the lines you want, you can either make a selection priority in the top menu or you can hide a sketch in the browser that is in the way

I enjoyed the video. I learned a lot about using Fusion 360 from watching it. However I do not fully understand the finished product. You went back and added rounding to the Mortises but the tenons at the lowest level still look pretty square. How will it fit right?
@WhatMakeArt
@WhatMakeArt Жыл бұрын
The lower parts of the tenons are perfectly square because they are outside corners. The CNC can cut square outside corners but not inside corners. Tolerance and fit for CNC parts discussed in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWmklHxugdB8qMk

@@WhatMakeArt Thank you. I've enjoyed watching your video. I do have one more question please. Could you point me toward a resource for doing toolpaths in Fusion 360? I've found plenty of videos on how to make the mortises but almost nothing on cutting out the shape, and cutting out the shape+tenons on the other piece.

@@WhatMakeArt I watched the videos and unfortunately none of them go into the toolpaths themselves. Do you offer any type of 1 on 1 training?
