After this episode, Larson immediately released the following statement: "It is NOT my fault this time!" Personally, I wouldve preferred those darker scales to have stayed that way like they did just before he transformed: Mixed in with his regular color. it actually looked pretty cool. Also, Since we can assume Spike is a very late bloomer, we cannt really say if Smolder is older than him or not. I'd put them around the same age. Makes them easier to ship. I am VERY happy they established this much continuity in this episode and even took the time to formally clear up that the whole Greed-induced growing up thing is completely unrelated to dragon puberty. Many fan theories were laid to rest this day. I am also happy to say that Rarity made this episode a hundred times more enjoyable, and Twilight, Zecora and even the short appearances of Pinkie filled the gaps quite nicely. We got some really nice character interactions. Cathy mustve had a lot of fun with this episode. Well, Tabitha probably too. Now that Twilight and Spike are done with, the only one I want to see grow wings is Scootaloo...... wait.

hummm, spike dont increase side when he grow wings plus spike was a baby until he got his wings (there come by garble made fun of spike for be a baby, and emeber said "he is just a baby he even doens't have wings") so if for a dragon takes around (or at least) 18~, so i going to say that spike has 5 years human just for the discuccion's sake. we agree that smolder is like 2x spike's high.if we used our averege stature, we would see that smoler is like 9~12 years in human (comparing heigth, and yes i know this is most subjetive), so that put smoler around 45~60 years xD, and embe around 75~90 years. in the other hand, smolder is more big that spike, that means at least smolder has his molt around when spike got hatched, smolder is at least as old as the mane6 (or at least as old as twilight)

If they were to change Spike’s design into an older, taller design, like Smolder’s size, I guarantee you, most bronies will FLIP. OUT. Ever so negativity. It makes me thinks the designers or writers or whoever are afraid that the fans will get ever so cross about change, even the smallest one. I mean, remember how angry bronies were when they changed Derpy to be “less offensive” or when Twilight was given wings. If they were to make Spike taller after the Molt Effect or made the CMC a little taller because Michelle and Claire hit puberty (a few years ago), some fans will get mad over it. That might not have happened, but, then again, some fans of any fanbase get overreactive. Ya never know for sure. But for now, I’m perfectly fine with Spike only gaining Spyro wings.

I feel like the writers took a lot of inspiration for this ep from an ep of teen titans called transformation. Basically the same plot. A character (starfire.) starts getting weird blemishes all over her body. She tries to hide them, gets discovered and thinks her friends won’t like her anymore. After running away she discovers that what she’s going through is normal for her race but also that something wants to eat her because of this. Her friends come to help, she cocoons herself then emerges with a new power and saves the day.

Starlight is more unicorn Twilight (and Sunset) replacement. Her having wings would defeat her purpose in the show and be a retread. I think next possible status quo changes: Starlight/Sunburst romance. It like their interactions have been set up like that and it would be be the first relationship evolving in the show. All others just had one or with Big Mac and Sugar Belle it was mentioned it that episode. Baby Cakes growing up. It would not be a big change and very much neened, they really should do it and I hope they take the opportunity just introduce them grown up this season. CMC going to different school do at least a new teacher. This might not be that likely but they need to change schools eventually and if they think what should be next for them it should seem like a natural idea.

Sara Samaletdin Starlight's one of the best at connecting with others and can do it better than even Twilight; it's why Twi made her the school's guidance counselor instead of a 7th teacher; so she could start embracing this role more often. She could also eventually teach or train other Unicorns in magic, because she did great in quickly teaching Trixie a teleportation spell, something Starlight herself said was really hard to do. I don't see them putting her and Sunburst in a actual relationship (though shippers are chomping at the bit) untill it's near the end of the series, if at all.

I guess the reason he's so small is because he was forcibly hatched by Twlight, likely he wasn't as big as he should be. But since he was hatched so many years ago, he should technically be older than the students. Smolder flies much more normally, so it's safe to assume she's had wings for a few years. The reason she's bigger is probably because she was more developed when she hatched. But your guess is as good as mine. I'm not much of a lizard biologist.

I doupt that Twilight is older than early 20s at most. Faust meant her be around mid teens at the start of the show and Spike was meant to be a kid. Spike was hatched when the Mane 6 got their cutie marks, they were the around the same age as the CMC are now.

My theory is that since dragons can seem to live for thousands of years that they age differently. Think of it like reverse dog years. Because Twilight hatched Spike around I say when she was about 9 or 10 but up until this point he's only been referred to as the "baby dragon." Also assuming this Smoulder may actually be WAAAAY older than all of her classmates. So who knows, maybe if Spike appears adolescent in reality he may actually may be like 19

She's a domesticated phoenix, so the "phoenixes aren't meant to be domesticated" thing is bull. 11:32 so, dragons kick their defenseless children out to fend for themselves when the children reek of a smell that attracts predators ten times their size? How has the dragon species survived this long? With the odds of young dragons vs giant predators, their whole race should've gone extinct by now. And no, they couldn't rely on their fire belches because they can't control them until AFTER the Molt is finished. 15:55 again, HOW has the dragon species survived this long if they kick their defenseless children out to fend for themselves when THAT is after them?! 17:40 ya know... I just realized, counting this episode, the 2 most recent episodes where Zecora plays a part has had something bad happen to her that is out of her control and could end in disaster. First she gets Swamp Fever and almost ended up a tree and this time she gets captured by a giant bird that eats meat. I'm starting to notice a pattern that I do not approve of 😒.

Also I’m guessing Twilight was trying to be careful when fighting the Rock so she didn’t accidentally hurt them. Normally I don't talk about the episodes that much. But it is one of the development milestones (like CMC getting Cutie Marks, Twilight becoming a princess etc.) so it is really worth discussing. Besides, I had a hype for this episode since the synopsis. REALLY HUGE HYPE. So, let's talk about the episode itself... 1. Spike and Rarity are heading to phoenix nests. I am not gonna lie, Sparity was one of the reasons I was so excited about this episode. I love this ship even it is pointed time and time again that it shouldn't work. But I still admire Spike's devotion and hope he will find his happiness with her 2.Rarity's signals towards Spike was one of the reasons I felt a bit uncofortable during this episode. I can divide this content into two parts, I will talk more about it later. Look how she looks at Spike at the beginning. It is really quite seductive and manipulative at the same time. Return of Peewee !!! I didn't think that we will see him again. He just dissappeared one day and we only knew that Spike let him go. This was a really cool comeback! 6. The fact that Rarity sugests Spike to go to Zecora is interesting. Spike and Zecora are the most used characters when it comes to helping others. Zecora is helping others by curing them and Spike is...well, he is not always eager to do those things (ekhm, abuse, ekhm, dirty work) but he is still helping a lot. I was wondering if those two will ever make an interaction based on helping each other. 7. And when Spike talks about beauty sleep, Rarity is visibly annoyed. Con Sparity:1 8. I can't blame Twilight for telling Spike to go away but it still hurts a bit. I can understand her fear about the castle..No, wait, I don't understand it, this castle is made out of crystal which makes it the least flammable spot in Ponyville, which is mostly made out of wood. But I am not mad at Twi. She tried to help, she couldn't know that she accidentaly implanted in Spike that he is experiencing Molteffect because she threw him out of the castle. 9.Also, Twilight talking about Celestia never having a blemishes made me wonder what was Celestia during her puberty and adolescence. Pity that we probably never find out. 10. I know that I may talk a bit much about Sparity angle but I just have to discuss some little hints. This episode is a heaven for the reference hunters. Both in general (Pewee returns, reference to It is not a Mane thing about you, Secret of my Excess callback.) and for Sparity fans ( at the beginning, Spike's stone scale pattern looks like Rarity's cutie mark, Spike was assisting in preparing a lecture about the element of Generosity. I will talk more about this references ). 11. Spike is wearing his suit from the olympics in the Crystal Empire. 12. Rarity approves Spike's clothing, really nice of her. 13. "But I still want you to take it off". Guys, I literally chocked on that part. I had to pause and think about it. Rarity wants Spike to take of his clothes off for her. Yes, I am well aware that later she states that she wants Spike to do some modeling for her...but the way she said it, made me feel...I don't even know how. It is not like this words wouldn't be expected from Rarity, who is the only one from the Mane 6 that belives in concept of nudity (ask AJ) but this words directed to Spike were.. well, at least suprising. 14. Pinkie Pie's as a tourist guide ? Those tourists wouldn't be the same ponies after the trip. 15. Also there is a guy that was beaten up by Flutterrage. 16.Spike's volume shifts was one of the funniest MOMENTS IN THAT EPISODE. I CAN relate to that cause to this DAY I HAVE TWO VOICES, EVEN WHEN my puberty ended. I guess it WILL BE A PROBLEM FOR Reactors. (Volume adjusting) 17. When Spike started shouting in the library, I was afraid that Twilight will appear in a Supersayin rage and kick him out to Tartarus.... It is ironic that Spike is helped by Smolder, the dragon crowned as an alternative version of Scootaloo. Speaking of Scootaloo, little squirt will be devastated, seeing that Spike is flying before her. 20. It is good to know that bigness induced by greed is optional and Molt is mandatory. Thank you for finally explaining that. 21. "Did you live with ponies your entire life ?"...seriously Smolder ? Seriously? 22. Pinkie Pie has a new "Here is Johnny" moment. 23. Zecora teaches us about the importance of patience and the ways of nature. As Glossaryck from Star vs. the forces of evil said "Nature is like a runaway dump truck : Hot, fast and full of garbage". Some things cannot be rushed. The molt has to be endured. 25. "Teaching asparagus to sing" no comments needed, Zecora has best rhymes ever. 24. Okay, loud Rarity is annoying as hell, but it is strangely cute, because of that british accent intensification. So cliché. Conviniently, Rarity doesn't hear. 28. It is really interesting that dragons have natural predators. I have never seen them as preys. 29. Rocs are cool looking predators. Also, rocs are a common creatures in a persian mythology, which is really cool. References to greek mythology...meh. References to persian mythology...now that is impressive. 30. I am preety sure that Zecora lives in the middle of the forest. Why they are on open space now ? 31. "Remember children, never climb high trees. "Let my ponies go" was in my opinion one of the most badass quotes of Spike 36.The details of the inside of the claw are amazing. 37. Now we have Twilight, just trotting by in the Everfree Forest. Well, magical horse ain't gonna explain s**t. 38. Rarity recalls being kidnapped by Spike on his birthday. It is quite symbolic that now Spike is her saviour. 39. Those shooting sound effect were hilarious 40. Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiingsssssss!!!!!! Spike's evolving!!!!!! 41. It is quite weird seeing Spike flying but I will get usedto it. 42. Spike is a natural flyer. Heck he can even fly upside down. Remember when Twilight were learning how to fly ? 43. And for last one... The last minute and a Rarity and Spike scene. This scene...it ruined the mood for me. Rarity, I really, really love you, you're my mane 6 fav but... let's just see... Rarity is convincing Spike that it was silly to think that they would abandon him (Okay, okay, that's good I am waiting) "There are so many good things because you stayed" (Yes, yes, say it...) "A model who can help with dresses any height." STOP.CUT.PAUSE Remember that this is probably the first time that Rarity and Spike talk since the Roc incident. Spike is probably wondering if Rarity will mention the situation. But she only expresses her joy for him staying. He might think that this is cool, he is missed somwhere. Moments later he hears that there he would be missed because he is the best one to be used and assist with the work. OUCH!!!! Rarity, if you had the fingers, that would be a huge middle one, exactly into Spike's heart. You love Spike or not, you SHOULD thank him. He didn't helped you with something, he didn't solved something for you, HE SAVED YOUR LIFE!!! You should be very greatful for that, not take it for granted. You were more appreciative towards Rainbow in Sonic Rainboom. And Spike...he cares for you and proven it multiple times. If someone loves you, you should never ignore it or even worse, hurt him. Even if you don't love it back. To this day, we had three major Sparity episodes: Secret of My Excess, Inspiration Manifestation and Molt Down. In each and every one Rarity needs to be saved and someone has to be stopped. In the first one, Spike has to stop himself from destroying Ponyville and hurting Rarity and his love for her provides the rescue. In the second one, Spike needs to stop Rarity for her own good. And now Spike has to save Rarity from the external force, the Roc. Rarity appreciates Spike's efforts, even kisses him, in the first example, but ignores them in the remaining two, which in my opinion were just as dangreous if not more. But by now, Rarity should know that Spike's love is genuine and can't be dismissed as a silly crush. Spike gently suggests that there are some things about flying that don't involve dresses. Maybe he even thinks about flying together when he will be older. Rarity counts down the examples of the other work he can do for her. And in that moment we can see that this is not going without echo, that Spike is really disappointed, maybe even thinks about moving on. But then he smiles and we can know, that whatever he may face, he will always care for Rarity. It was such a warm smile. That's why I love this silly dragon.

well, Twilight has always shown to be pretty meh power wise. She knows lots of spells, but Starlight for example has far more Oomph than Twi. Being an Alicorn doesn't mean they are super strong, just that they are really good at something and have an easy time with it

I don't care if you have to argue nature/nurture, environmental influence or whatever, I can't accept that Smolder is chronologically older than Spike. Given how slowly dragons age physically she'd also have to be older than Twilight which would be weird. Molt or not, he was (briefly) the former dragon lord

Pretty sure Spike is older than the students. Remember he was hatched when Twilight was little so.....You can assume a dragon ages the same as a pony also remember its not just Twilight that doesnt know about dragons its all the ponies that dont know anything. And people really overestimate Twilight. Remember when we saw her kicking ass in season 4 finale she has the power of 4 alicorns 2 of which are are big deals. By herself she is just really skilled.

I dunno. Twi was cutie mark age when she hatched him. Admittedly probably a little bit younger than the CMC since they were late bloomers, but probably not too much so. I’d say if they were 12 when they got their marks, Twi was probably 10 or 11. If the school is the equivalent of a high school, the students are about 14. Spike could be younger if Twi is taken to be 22-24, which seems about right at this point.

That still seems to be older to me. Cause those students still seem to be you know kids while Spike is only about maybe a few years younger than Twilight. I doubt the school works like a regular one. I get the feeling Twilight was more 7 or so when she hatched him also when the show started the CMC according to the audition forms were 7 and when they got their marks they would be 8 at the time based off of time jumps and hearts warming episodes before and after as well as the season 4 premier marking one year
