It's also being Southern. There are some who would raise their voice, but in most scenarios, we do that quiet and firm tone that makes others hang their head in shame or look the other way. It's all how you project. And with certain Southern women, who picked it up from mothers and grandmothers, we don't play around with matters of the heart or what's right. Whenever I get mad about what I love or know what's good, I drop my voice and be sweet about it but also true. It's all how you carry yourself. And Sandra is Southern- so she knows how to drop and get the the point across while still being ladylike but also carry her own.

@CD Smith Don't get me started on ignoring bullies. I still hate Sandra Bullock in this movie for her own reason called "making her character portrayed as a narcissist who ignored bullies".
At the end of the video when Collins went and sat with Michael, I just thought when you raise your children right, then you never have to worry that they won't do the right thing. It's easy to raise a smart child with all the computer programs and information and classes available online, or even with tutoring. But it takes a whole lot more time, effort and care to raise a kind child. One who will show everyone (people of all races, religions, and cultures) the same amount of courtesy, respect, understanding, compassion, empathy, generosity, care and kindness that they would hope to receive themselves.

I try to see it from a mom stand point, I know my mom would never feel comfortable leaving me alone with a guy or something and I didn't understand her reasoning at as young girl, but growing up now I understand, not saying every guy will do something to a girl if she's alone with them. Take it as you will, it has nothing to do with being sexist. I may not have kids, but if I did have a daughter, I would not just be cool with leaving her alone with a male. But i'm sure im somehow wrong so it is what it is.
@hmrhuang7 жыл бұрын
If you grew up with common sense about judging people's character, etc., then your Mom shouldn't have to worry about leaving you alone with other guys. If your Mom trusts you to make informed decisions about your (love) life, then she should trust your judgement when it comes to you meeting and dating guys. I understand most parents want the best for their kids, but that doesn't mean they're always right or that they always know what's best for you...

That cut from those lost white middle-aged witches to the next scene in which the little girls on the swings ask Michael to push him - two white, blond cute girls,who couldn't care less about his skin tone... 🙊💛 ... Yep - it was actually a valid point to make, if not for the unnescessary racist overtone she added too it. That's why she went back and ask Collins if she was comfortable. It shouldn't have had to do with race - any relatively unknown male in the same household with your teenage daughter should have raised the same question, black or not.
@rayloc4204 жыл бұрын
Race does actually matter given the times. These people probably don't experience much racial diversity. They probably keep up with current affairs as well. So, their limited exposure may be the crime statistics. Proportionally, they are extremely high. At this time, its in the past, they weren't necessarily being racist, they may have been statistical. People like the mom and Michael helped bridge the gap

I think its underrated how varied racism is featured here. The uncle is racist but not highly. Hes old southern, he didn’t sound angry just confused lol But the women at lunch were absurd racist and she shut them down.

She is a lady that can get her point across with a good tongue lashing~ to the point and she means business. It wouldn’t have been productive to take Michael in and be violent, he had been around enough of that in his early years. Always lead by example. I love this true story and feel that more people should realize that loving and caring for others, no matter the race, is what life is supposed to be about. My family is a rainbow, and I wouldn’t want it any other way. Each ethnicity, religion, culture enhances the beauty, lessons, and blessings that shape us. Seriously, embrace each other’s differences~ and you will be enriched with the bonds, love, experiences, and lessons you will be rewarded with. Embrace mankind ❤️ respect the differences, find the similarities, and bask in the love. It will forever change not only the outlook of life, but the beauty of it will over flow to bless others also.

This was my mom and my sister. She chewed them up and spit them out so calm and with a smile. The only reason I know was because a friend worked there and was in earshot. I wouldn’t change anything in the world for my sister. She’s my heart

I may have not liked the whole white savior aspect of this film. I may not have liked it blamed the victims of racism with stereotypes and called it a "true story." I may believe that adopting one poor African American teenager when you have enough money to adopt several and start a charity or even invest in the inner city and don't do that makes you not entirely a good person as that one act of kindness was, let alone milking off of that, but I do believe the scene in which Leigh Ann Tuohy tells off her racist friend convinced me that Bullock got her character and deserved her Oscar.

+outinsider To be fair, making someone a part of your family requires several acts of kindness, not just one. Buying not letting him sleep in a gym was one, having him stay for a holiday is one, buying him clothes is one, being happy his grades went up is one, giving him a bed to sleep in is one. Sending out a card to everyone you know, prejudiced or otherwise, basically saying that he's apart of the family is one. There is a difference between investing your money in some charity or agency, and investing your time and eventually your heart into someone right in front of you, when it would of be so much easier to just pass them by. They also didn't start milking their family's story years after Michal had started playing major league football.

+rockstarchick820 Yes, and I get that- but I also understand how loaded the Tuohy family is and how they could have afforded two or three other teenagers to take care of who had no where else to go. I understand how Michael Oher, who is supposedly the subject of this film, did not like the film and how it was more about the Tuohys than it was about him, and how the film made him look. Sure, we can award the goodness of one family's charity, but we can be charitable ourselves. We can make sure the foundations and charities we donate to put that money to good use and not just do it for sustainability's sake. We can make sure that we don't fail each other- because this film gets away with saying that the African-American community Michael came from failed him, which does make this film racist- even benevolently so. It had a bipartisan following because both liberals and conservatives believe that the African-American community fails individuals. Yet, African-Americans didn't create social systems to fail people of color, white Americans did. If we are going to fix racism, we have to acknowledge our part in it honestly and change the way we look at things. The Blind Side is about white saviorship. Precious at least was about how the African-American community can lift each other up amid adversities.

+rockstarchick820 I agree. Having another child is not just a financial commitment it's also requires a huge investment of time and emotions as well as maintaining the family you already have. It's not racist to say the community failed him. Because it did as it fails many. Unfortunately a large percentage of people in poverty are African Americans and yes those communities do fail their citizens and he happened to be one of them.But not to say all black people fail their kids. But this film was about the ghetto not the Obamas. There are white slums too that fail their kids. The debate is is it better to help the individual or do a blanket approach. Both are required.

She took him in as one of her own, gave him a chance at a life a real one, paid him to go to college and he ended up playing for the baltimore ravens nfl draft. Started from nothing and ending up with something
