Yes being physically fit helps - but then again, physical fitness probably means you look at yourself in the mirror at some point and go "damn, I look good" and that boosts the confidence which cycles back on itself. The other side: They know who they are and are comfortable in the look they have. If you have ever seen a person awkwardly in a suit vs. a person who comfortably wears one - it's the same type of thing going on.
