I've just today read Damien Lewis' re-telling of this story in his book, "Brothers in Arms". Rest in Peace Mr Sadler. The world needs now, more than ever, honourable, disciplined, men and women like yourself and your colleagues from that point in history. People for whom integrity, loyalty and honesty are at the very core of their existence.

RIP Mr Sadler, a true hero.. To all you wanna be hard men & gangsters of today, look into this hero’s eyes, they’ve seen ‘shit’ & fought against the enemy that you lot would run home away too… back when Britian had a spine but unfortunately those days are long gone.

Very sad to see him in this state but incredible he lived this long. Just goes to show the toughest humans can’t defeat time. I’ve watched for many years videos interviewing the original members of the SAS and it was great to see Mike Sadler interviewed in the 1970s and 80s when he had all of his faculties. It was also interesting to hear the other members of the SAS praise him and say he was simply the best navigator was able to navigate through the desert with the stars alone. He became so skilled in navigation and came to love the desert and knew the areas of the desert where he operated like the back of his hand. He was so skilled he would know to the litre of fuel that would be required to get him there and back. God bless them all and may they be having a great time together in heaven.

Passed away at 103. Not sure when this was filmed but he was switched on as hell remembering everything so clearly. If there was any person who should have been Knighted then it should have been Mike Sadler. Pop stars, charity people, sportsmen etc have been Knighted for doing a few good things but Major Saddler was way above them. He was the main navigation guy coming from the LRDG and then into the SAS. If he hadn't been pinched by Sterling then maybe we wouldn't have today's Special Forces.
