Fun facts: Record company liked the album but felt there were no "hits". Angry at this Tom And Mark went into separate rooms and within 10 minutes wrote Rock Show and First Date. The actively promoted the album with darker colors and wore dark colored clothes to get rid of the boy band image they got from Enema. Video for Stay Together For The Kids had to be heavily edited, showed a building collapse but 9/11 happened as the video was being shot

Cant lie I used to think Blink 182 was pretty cheesy like Busted or something. Nowadays am a big fan lol the nostalgia and Travis is a beast. By the way this version is missing like 5 songs "Time to Break Up" - "Mother's Day" - "What Went Wrong" - "Fuck a Dog" - "Don't Tell Me It's Over" - "When You Fucked Grandpa" They are all worth a listen for sure

Yeah!! Before the normal 13 track edition hit stores, they released a Digipak version of the red plane (Take Off), yellow pants (Your Pants), and green jacket (and Jacket) with each featuring two bonus tracks, a normal track and a joke song. The normal jewel case release didn't come with any bonus tracks. I don't think he even caught the album title pun.....did he? But yes, he should check out them all!!

this is the quintessential blink album IMO - it showcases everything about the band that made everyone fall in love with them - jokey, upbeat tracks about young love and fucking around with your friends, but also delving into serious subjects like being lonely and the pain of your parents splitting up

Blink’s second songs are always so underrated bangers and this Online Songs might be my favorite. They’ve been my favorite band since Dude Ranch, they’re always changing their sound rather than just being a pop punk. Their latest record was such a great culmination of everything they’ve worked on up until that point. I’d love to see you react to that after listening to more. Fun fact: Rock Show and First Date were written completely out of spite. The label didn’t hear a single so Mark and Tom each wrote the corniest popiest songs they could, both were huge hits!
@LimboJimbo4 ай бұрын
I guess Blink is just one of those bands that is as easy to hate as to love. Their sense of humor between Flyswatter/Buddha and Take off your pants and jacket, Tom's very unique voice and way of singing, his technically lackluster guitar playing (especially live)... It's all stuff that you could criticise. Then again, the songwriting is just genius. Prog fans would probably look down on the songs, but if you're into music you know that it's actually much harder to write a catchy popular song than just a really complicated one. And beyond skill... It's just fun to listen to for so many people, you just can't deny that. If it still isn't for you, well that's fine. But if a band is loved by so many people, they're objectively doing something right. So I guess they're still polarizing because some people just can't or want to look past the points mentioned above. That's fine, you can't argue about taste. The one thing I will say though, is you can't deny that it's an amazing skill to write and make music that entertains so many people. The marketing helps, sure, but there are few bands that could achieve this at the level of Blink and that's not just marketing or luck.

Hey - have you noticed that blink in this era especially seems to pick up and slow down tempo subtlety quite a bit? Not just feel but it actually seems to move a bit in bpm. Self titled has a lot like that and I’ve caught it here also on some. I’ll have to go back to enema. I feel like it might be a big part of their sound that I never caught initially. I don’t think there’s clicks or at least not much.
@ddrumdude4 ай бұрын
Yeah it’s noticeable. It adds excitement and energy to sections.
@edwardrice28484 ай бұрын
@@ddrumdude yeah it’s natural sounding, it’s less common now. I also love when there’s two hard panned guitars palm muted and they’re a smidgeon off from each other so you can hear them distinctly. Also a common theme with blink. I’m lost without you is all over and the entrance to each chorus is different in approach with time. But it feels natural. I think I noticed in down and always too. Almost every song though it seems there some shifts. Some of the singles appear tighter especially when it’s fast throughout, but it’s a thing you can hear for sure.

People love to give you shit because you're honest about your musical preferences but I appreciate how open you are. So many people aren't willing to listen to music that fits into their niche preferences. When I was younger I was very close minded when it came to music. Ironically, I took a music appreciation class and learned just that, to appreciate music. These days I'll listen to anything at least twice. If I don't like it after that it likely won't grow on me but it's likely I can find something to like about each song. I now have a handful of favorites in every genre.
