i'm gonna tryyy to put my question into as music-y terms as i can, but it's been a long time since junior high. - do those cymbals really decay that fast or is it the mix? they sound almost unnaturally staccato-y for crash cymbals. BTW, love your videos, Max! super clean playing in every one of 'em!

The terminology is great! Dry cymbals (such as the Extra Dry series of Meinl) are very short and stacatto'y cymbals for sure. The sustain is really short, decaying incredibly fast. They're also less bright than other cymbals. If you're playing live in a rock band, having dry cymbals might give you trouble, as you can't really cut through the music. But if you're playing a lot by yourself, if you want to add a bit more personality, or if you're mic'ed, they're wonderful to work with! Hope that helps!

yeah, that helps a ton! it also helps the sound on a couple of Luke Holland's more recent videos seem a little more believable for me now too (the dark matter play-through and Sorry video in particular). i've just been so used to seeing people use cymbals like the Zildjian A Customs or the Meinl/Sabian equivalent in sound, so i'm so used to brightness and sustain that you mentioned that the darker ones through me for a loop. i appreciate the response!

Sorry I didn't reply earlier. I was in a phone, and it said "Video not available" on several of the covers. Now that I am on a computer, I can see them just fine. I remember it happened with the Dredg one, "The Kill" by 30STM and some other I can't recall now. But definitely some more. It would be nice if they were available everywhere, but I know this stuff is complicated. Last thing: Great channel man! I have been hooked since I discovered it! Such great covers and production ;) Would you listen to "Girl O'clock" by The Dismemberment Plan"? that such a sick dancable drum beat. Cheers, keep it up

HeyHeyChey - ah sorry for this late response! Slipped past somehow. Alright yeah, unfortunately there's nothing I can do about it, which is a bummer. Some choose to try to sneak around copyrights etc and mess with the laws, but I rather just stay true with all of it. Unfortunately some videos might not be viewable on some devices or in some specific countries, something I wish I was in control of - but is completely up to the record labels..
