My brother OD'd back in 2019 and this song was mentioned in a letter to his girlfriend at the time as being a song that really spoke to him about trying to figure out how to get through life. Listening to this song while he was on life support waiting to make the decision to donate his organs hit different. "I see the light, it feels good." "I guess I've made the list" I am seeing Blink-182 live in Hershey, PA with my family. I was not expecting to have them perform this at all, and if they do while we are there... man. RIP Danny, you are truly missed. (EDIT) We saw them play in Hershey a few weeks back and it was an amazing show. They did not play Not Now but they played Violence and it was well performed. Me and Danny loved that song growing up

I thought about it and The reason this song is so beloved is because this was peak blink when self titled came out and this was actually a b side from that record. Back then just accessing music wasn’t as easy as it is now so once this tune was bestowed upon blink fans it was just a banger. When he gets aggressive on the 2nd half of the verses It just hits man. If anyone is upset about Not Now being taken down a step! It is quite common for most musicians to do this. It is to help keep the voice strong throughout shows. Maroon 5 does it alot. Anyways, in 99 when Adams Song came out off Enema, the song was brought down by a half step because it was so hard even then for mark to sing! Not Now, and Adams Song are blinks hardest songs to sing, if they gave it their all, their vocals could be affected with the remaining songs. Carousel is probably the hardest of all for tom, and Dammit for mark! Tom has to do to the chorus for Dammit for that very reason!

Adam’s Song was written a full step down in D. That’s how it is on the album. Pre-Untitled you’d know they were about to play the song because Tom would have to swap guitars and would use his yellow strat. The song was retired from their set list after DJ AM’s death because it was too emotionally hard to play, not vocally. Dammit was written too high for Mark. This is true. He struggled with the song and, coupled with his smoking, had a big scare with losing his voice. Tom picked up the choruses to give Mark’s voice a rest. Live performances will often adjust to accommodate a few scenarios. Sometimes it’s to make it easy to sing, sometimes it’s to make it easier to play. What’s My Age Again has been played higher, not lower in the past. Listen to the live album. He also used to play the song using the same guitar as “Going Away to College”, which requires a Capo on the 2nd fret.
