Yeah! It doesnt matter that Blitzchung violated a contract! Let's just let him do whatever he wants! Moral matters of the protest aside, a contact is a contract. Corporations have a right to not want to be involved in political controversy, and Blitzchung took that neutrality away from Blizzard despite signing a contract agreeing not to be political on official blizzard broadcasts.
@CrypticMantisTX55
@CrypticMantisTX55 4 жыл бұрын
@@ItachiKai Good point. There is a good chance that is exactly what Blizzard is thinking. And if that's the case, it further illustrates that their apology is not sincere, and just a trick to get people off of their back. Thank you for pointing out their dishonesty.
@ItachiKai
@ItachiKai 4 жыл бұрын
@@CrypticMantisTX55 It's not dishonesty. Are you aware that corporations that are publicly traded are actually LEGALLY OBLIGATED to act in the best financial interest of the corporation? Like... if they do not, then the Executives will be held financially accountable to the shareholders for the loss? Did you know that? Do you know what the numbers are for those profits that would be lost if China branded Blizzard as a no-go corporation in China? Billions. Now what human is going to put themselves in the situation that they owe their shareholders billions because they didn't punish someone that signed a contract agreeing not to put them in that situation in the first place? The problem is that a bunch of snowflakes are bitching about a topic they barely understand. There are layers upon layers of complexities to this situation, and Blizzard is REQUIRED by LAW to act in the best interest of the company. All there is to it. Stop expecting companies to act as a beacon of light. Corporations want money. No fucking surprise. Blizzard is not some big bad guy. They're just a company who was forced into an impossible situation by some guy who wanted to break some rules. And for what? Publicity? Is anyone supporting Hong Kong now that wasn't already? What did he accomplish? Nothing. Be fucking realistic. Is the situation in Hong Kong horrible? Yeah. What the fuck is Blizzard going to do about it?
@CrypticMantisTX55
@CrypticMantisTX55 4 жыл бұрын
@@ItachiKai "not dishonesty" Hm, hold on now, so does it have to do with China or not? Blizzard claims it had nothing to with China, rather it had to do with derailing a livestream. But you are saying if they didn't punish Blitzchung, it would jeopardize profits coming from China. Someone in this scenario is not being honest. And yeah, I hate snowflakes too, like those damn Blizzard employees protesting their own company. Snowflakes, I say! Plus congresspeople in both parties. Snowflakes.

Almost nobody cared for D4 at that point (or any other game), at least so it seemed. I think that all of this was tactical to just shut the gamers up..............which didnt really work since we got a new red shirt guy during WoW panel.

I can attest to the pre-Activision days, as I grew up in OC and had several friends who worked at Blizzard back in the 90s/00s. It was THE coolest gig on the planet and everyone wanted in. Folks need to understand that with the relatively recent depature of the last remnants of the OG Blizzard leadership, the remaining company is now Activision/Vivendi only. The true Blizzard Entertainment of old, as we knew, has been dead for a while.

There is a commonly used term, Double Speak. And that is all this "apology" was. It saying without saying, words with no meaning. My personal issue with this is that Blizzard punished a fellow gamer, for speaking for his support for Human Rights. Many great leaders have fought for these rights. And the protesters in Hong Kong are fighting the same battles as our historical leaders. For an American based company to even think of punishing anyone for promoting the same rights they themselves have had every day of their lives. Brings into some serious issues as to there willingness to betray everyone for a fist full of dollars. While they may be Capitalists, they are also suppose to be American Democracy Citizens. But they were quick to fall to their knees and condemned a player for going against their Communist contributors. And even now, with all the backlash, Blizzard has not acknowledged this fact. Or to publicly support democracy or human rights. I suspect, because that would offend their communist overlords. Any money spent on Blizzard games/products/services is giving money to Communist China, who stands in defiance of human right and freedoms. Boycott Blizzard. Boycott China. Get Communism out of America. Give Hong Kong it's Rights, and Freedoms.

I don't even know why Blizzard or their Chinese associates saw it necessary to act like this. They managed to make the message of freedom in HK spread wider. Which is hilarious in a way since that was the one thing they tried to avoid. And now people are spreading the message even further because they despise the way Blizzard handled the issue sucking up to the Chinese associates. They probably thought that the scene wouldn't care about a single player... Oh dear... It almost seems like the PR-team responsible for this disaster have been in the balance teams of HS and OW. And I don't want to sound like I wanted Blizzard to get away with this. If they wanted to, they could've just hired some guy formerly responsible for China's censorship, and then apply the same methods to their website and forums. And since they seem to suck up to China even more than to the nostalgia fueled HC Wow classic players, shows a lot of their loyalty.

It's not even new Blizzard have shown support to the lgbt+ community during their events and streams for years now The thing is this made them look good and probably made them a bit of money from people wanting to support them afterwards, it was 100% beneficial for them but now that a policital statement (that is just as worthwile) would make them lose money, now they claim that they never wanted people to make political statements during their streams (except if it's in America then they'll only ban you if people call them out on it), this is beyond pathetic tbh

Nebohtes Nice apple, it’s not an orange. Stop saying it is. When you engage in a public activity such as esports, you have to agree to certain terms and conditions. One of those conditions is a limit on your speech. There is absolutely nothing illegal about that. The Supreme Court has stated this for decades. He knew the rules. He knew he would be violating those rules with his statement. He thought about it. He decided to do it despite the consequences. He excepted the consequences without complaint. He gets a lot of respect for that. You, bitching and complaining about things you don’t understand, get none. What I don’t get is he excepted his punishment with full knowledge that what he did would bring about this result, why can’t you? Why can’t any of you? This is the real world. Live in it. For the record, not only do I support Hong Kong, I knew about this before you kids did. I’m not hoping on some pseudo- First Amendment bandwagon because it’s cool and edgy to shit on a company for enforcing policies that you don’t like. You’re certainly allowed to disagree and even protest your disagreement. But let’s stop pretending that this is the first amendment issue. It’s not. That rate was waived when he agreed to their terms to participate in their esports activities. He knew it. You knew it. We all knew it, actually. Get over it. MoveOn because sitting here in your echo chamber bitching and moaning will accomplish exactly 0

Justin Wright So how come the college students didn’t get banned from the tournament when they held up a “Free Hong Kong, boycott Blizz” sign? They literally had to willingly quit the tournament because blizzard didn’t punish them for it. Only after they had left did Blizzard actually issue a ban on them but they had already left so it was for nothing. A lot of the frustration on blizzard is also attributed to the fact that they’re being vague with how they handle things.
@imdstine47
@imdstine47 4 жыл бұрын
@Justin Wright Blitzchung expected it not because Blizz disallows political statements, although it would be reasonable if they did, but because he understands how powerful China’s influence is and knew how they’d react. However, the rule he broke is incredibly vague and lets Blizzard censor whatever the hell they want of what esports players say. Essentially, they are not enforcing a clear set of rules but using vague ones to excuse their blatantly hypocritical actions. If no political talk was allowed, why were they so slow to ban American college competitors for doing the same thing?

Big Blue Guy I think his statement that postcard was perfectly acceptable. I do not know if that’s true, I have not seen the terms and conditions for being a caster. I only know what the participants agreed to, because it’s pretty standard amongst all sorts of activities like that.
