From what I've heard both tree and petal elevate certain ability hitboxes. My guess is the tree's 'top' took meteor's hitbox along with it, and so the Lifeweaver was no longer in the center, but some distance below it. But this is based only on something I read about Petal and Tree, that I have not bothered to confirm for myself, so there might be something else going on.

Tree didn't stop it. Seems like he wasn't perfectly on top of it, so it didn't one-shot him. On plant, the tree gives you 150 hp instantly, so he almost instantly got his full health back after the doom ult dmg.
