I wish they'd done something more with old lines rather than just ripping them up. Imagine if they'd created a line from Doncaster to Barnsley. It could run along this old route until Goldthorpe, go south to Manvers Business Park, then West to link up to the line into Barnsley. Building HS2 is essential to getting the fast trains running more efficiently, but they need to run more frequent and more useful stopper services and ripping up track denied that chance

housing estate now sits on this sitetrackbed still there not a thing left of the tracks & trackside equipment besides it would have been nice if the bed had not been blocked off in certain locations as it would make an excelent footpath

Goldthorpe was in the black when it shut in 1994 but Budgen didn't want it.

Yes weighbridge still there, been up today. Very sad really, that that is all that remains. I know the drivers family well, my house used to back onto theirs. Cracking bloke.
