There is a very cheap item called WEED BLOCK CLOTH sold at any hardware store in the garden department. It is black. It has lots of tiny holes in it to allow water to go through. It is thin and a strong material. It would work to stop anyone from looking in at night EXCEPT when you turn on a light inside. It would also block flying insects.... and would be removable so cops will not get upset or pull you over. Best of all, it is cheap.

Super helpful! I've gone with the fabric and magnets option and I'm SO happy with them. I cut thin black fabric to size - it's thin enough that I can still kind of see out, but when it's in my window it looks like dark tinting from the outside and no one can see into my car, and the fabric was like $2/m. I used thick black electrical tape all around the edges - this stops fraying, and also creates a stiff but still flexible edge for a better fit. And then I used more tape to attach my magnets in little tabs at the edges. I just used strong magnets from an office supply shop. I'm so happy with the result. Folds up small and out of the way when I'm not using them, and really easy and fast to put up.

I personally found that using Reflectix along with some black fabric on one side works best. You can use the Reflectix on the outside during the day when it's sunny (and/or hot) and the black side out at night so it doesn't draw as much attention and this also means people can't really peek in either (just get enough to cover all window, or buy the pre-made ones). I actually made a set myself but later bought the pre-made ones and just added some black fabirc to the dark/black side (as the ones I got were made out of a foam material but the black side had a bit of a shine to it which reflects a little bit of light so I put some black fabirc over them so they don't reflect out and it looks as if the car is empty at night). I only camp in camp grounds though so it's not like I have to be ultra stealthy anyway, but it looks better and draws less attention than the silver reflectix side does.

In the 80’s, a perforated vinyl screen that sticks on by window tint static was sold. It’s used on the inside of the car windows. Simple apply. Then trim out the shape with a razor. May pick up trucks covered the rear tinted windows with this. The hot Texas sun will permanently adhere the perforated screen onto the windows. It is dark enough to provide privacy. That is as long as you don’t use a tablet or phone. You can ad another solid removable layer of solar reflective screens to block out light to camp in your car. All of this is inside your car. It is not notable outside the vehicle.

I found a tutorial on KZbin on how to make insulated window inserts and copied it. Materials depending on country will be $80 in the US to $150+ here in Aus and a few days to make. But all the are, are two separate layers of thick reflectix, a middle layer of strong 5mm corruplast (acts as air gap) and covered in a polyester material glue gunned together. Thebhardest parts are cutting the corruplast and getting the sizing perfect in your Windows but holy shit do they work amazingly! I have one side white material which works incredibly well at reflecting the heat, i assume if i left it as just plain reflectix it'd work the same but white is nicer looking aha. And black for stealth, which literally make the car look like an empty car at night unless you shine a torch and walk right up to the window as the material isn't reflective or glossy at all. Also helps prevent condensation on inner parts of windows and by "maintaining" internal temperature in the vehicle. Definitely recommend everyone do this!

First time looking on youtube for diy solutions to car privacy. I occasionally sleep in my estate car camping or touring so want blackout inside when dark and need less in daylight. . In daylight when parked I use bubble wrap cut to window sizes and held by water spray. Works fine. For night I was just pegging black refuse sacks to a line I strung right around the inside of the top of the car frame and taping the bottom of them.. a bit rough but worked.. and easy to store space wise. Now I want to try painting bubble wrap as night curtains instead. Not sure if any paint would work on it. Has anyone tried this? I have a roof window. That gives ventilation for sleeping so don't have to leave a window open.

i use 20 year weed block, use magnets or velcro to hold it to the plastic trim around your windows is easy, i glued 4 super strong tiny magnets around the side windows and 6 around the rear windshield and hold it up that way, can be removed or left up. can go to a feed store and get "grass sacks" and make your own for about 10-15 cents per bag. or get a bolt of "blanket" material from walmart and do it, ideas are endless and all work in the end, and are all on the cheap side

Just FYI, the "car shade" link goes a website the sales products in Euros, and there is only one pic that doesn't show anything.

Really helpful - thank you. what about suction pads as another option
@LiveEasy3 жыл бұрын
That could certainly work, but I think they can be unreliable.

What I want is an easily hung and removable lunchtime solution. I just want to eat lunch in peace in my car without me seeing out or anyone seeing in. It would make my vehicle feel like a mobile bedroom during my work week.

I drove from Arizona all the way to Florida with Limo tint. Not one cop batted an eye towards me. Put a Thin Blue Line flag sticker next to your license plate. I'm a flormer cop and in my 6 years never even talked about window tint. I'm sure the upotight cops in Cali might fuck with you though. Maybe even Illinoiis and New York too. I won't got to any of those 3 states anyway along with a few more on my shit list. I'm all about that preferated vinyl though. I'm going with that option on my Prius. Thanks!

After reading these comments, with 15, not limo, I am concerned about being stopped...or the knock on the window... planning a long ass trip after lockdown is over

I own those premium Car Shades for my 2014 Prius and L-O-V-E them. They are fantastic but don't give you complete privacy. I use mine in conjunction with State Legal Window Tint based on the 5 States I travel through the most.

Ok.... I still could not determine best for a woman alone, sleeping where no one can see inside (pref with light on). Perforated vinyl? Don’t want to leave the windows down.Also, loved the comment about waking up to sweet critters in the morn. Can’t afford the super duper click in shades.

If you need to run the light at night, I would use perf vinyl and some simple pop-in diy pieces.
@ericavhay86083 жыл бұрын
Great info! Thanks! With the custom make shades (last option), I assume you can see through at night when you turn a light on?
@LiveEasy3 жыл бұрын
Indeed. Unless you modify them, which is really easy to do.

Another awesome video Jordan! I only discovered your channel today and have been happily binge watching all your content. Your sense of humour is bang on and the way you articulate yourself is truly impressive! I’m curious to know if your videos are fully scripted before you record them, they’re impeccable! I hope you continue to upload, you are a real talent. I’ve really enjoyed your blogs as well 👍🏼

Wow. Thank you so much Paul! A majority of my videos are roughly scripted. I will basically write down all of the points I want to say and then try to regurgitate them on camera. It takes a looong time as I am a bit of a perfectionist. I so appreciate that you have also looked at the blogs. Even though KZbin is a horrible return on investment for my video production labor (video is what I do professionally) comments like yours inspire me to do some more around this topic that I’m passionate about.

Thanks so much for the response Jordan, I wasn’t expecting to hear from you - a little ‘star struck’ really! I can fully appreciate the amount of time, effort and creativity that goes into the production of these videos (and your blog also). Being a perfectionist can be a real drain on one’s resources but the results speak for themselves. I do hope your endeavours are rewarded some day, you deserve far more exposure than you currently receive. Thanks for keeping it real. Respect.
