4:35 Concrete is definitely a good idea in hurricane country. Notice that the roof is still framed with wood. Earlier Dan mentioned the problems of making reliable wood connections. That will still be the case with this house and its roof. It's essential that the wood-to-wood and wood-to-concrete connections are done strictly in accordance with the engineering, and using the best quality materials you can afford.

I am just planning to build a house out of concrete blocks here in the Midwest because I cannot stand these cheap wood houses. It's much easier to just buy a house, but they all are made of wood, so the only option I have is to buy a lot and build my own

We are seriously considering building out main floor above our basement out of concrete blocks. Just not sure how to install the floor joists bwtween the different levels? Any advice?
@TheJudgeJuryExecutioner
@TheJudgeJuryExecutioner 10 ай бұрын
I was asking the same question. I believe you just notch out a space in the blocks to sit the joist in just like a beam pocket for a basement

Are interior walls typically also concrete block or drywall?
@mr.g937
@mr.g937 2 жыл бұрын
Like 90% of new construction two story homes in Florida have wood frame second floors and interior walls made of either wood or metal studs. All walls will have drywall, even if concrete block is used they will put down wood furring strips and the drywall will be screwed to that.

I always wanted to build a whole house with block. Can you build a house with block in California??
@HistoricHomePlans
@HistoricHomePlans Жыл бұрын
Fatih, yes, absolutely. I have a degree in architecture and lived in California. You can certainly build such a house there. Because of earthquakes there will be some differences in the engineering, but those are routine. The one problem you may have is that you may have difficulty finding a contractor with experience building concrete block homes. Most of the block building in California is commercial. It may be hard to find a concrete block contractor ready to take on a smaller project.

Mold grows on anything. If you have mold then you have a moisture issue or water damage. Concrete houses have many more issues with mold and rising damp than stick framing or timber framing. Not to mention the labor cost and danger of fixing a concrete building.

Maybe its something to do with the freeze/thaw cycles. I say that because concrete is like a sponge and wonder if that's a reason why because i've seen them used for basements and thats about it. In todays construction industry with the airtight required codes I think people are stupid to build with wood. Water will eventually penetrate and the structure will likely rot from the inside out. The only reason older homes are still standing is because the houses were able to breath and moisture easily escaped.

Nothing wrong with exposed electrical conduit and nicely installed plumbing pipes and AC. NOTHING !!! It is just the silly perception propagated by mass media for the benefit of the building contractors. They say no to exposed electr conduit but do not install vents to outside above kitchen range - how stupid !!!

I love how the guide asks these stupid questions as if no other country builds this way. As a matter of fact, I'm a native California living in Europe and wood is rarely used. And when it's used, the dimensions are actual. 4"x4" is exactly that, not a 3.5"x3.5". Capitalism...this guy needs to get a passport, or even visit the Midwest and New England where the older homes are still intact. Europeans think the way we build with drywall and wood is like a movie set and very temporary.

This video seems kind of BS when the roof on these houses are clearly wood truss. Once you lose your roof, it's over, doesn't really matter that your second floor has a block exterior. If you going to say you need block on the second floor (which you really don't) then you also need a concrete roof.

God bless: repent, trust, and believe in Jesus and be saved. There’s trouble in the World but Jesus has overcome it. Trust in Him and be truly set free. Free from the troubles, pains, and desires of this world. Even those things that you secretly justify even when they’re wrong, you can be set free from. Through God’s Word you will become new, not being bound to your wrong doings. May this message fill your heart, there may still be struggles, but now with God you have help and hope, from God, who knows all things. May God bless you and may you be filled with love.
