🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 00:02 Introduction to the event hosted by Cambridge University Islamic Society. 00:29 Brief biography of Ahmed Paul Keeler and his introduction to Islamic culture. 01:11 Discussion on the historical relationship between Islam and the West. 02:14 Mention of multiple crises threatening humanity, including population explosion, social instability, mental illness, nuclear threat, and climate change. 02:44 Escalation of polarization between Islam and the West, leading to a dangerous divide. 02:56 Introduction to Ahmed Paul Keeler's book, "Rethinking Islam and the West: A New Narrative for the Age of Crises." 03:11 Explanation of the Mizan thesis, emphasizing the importance of balance in human life and harmony with nature. 03:51 Discussion on the Quranic concept of Mizan and its relevance to balance, justice, and harmony. 12:47 Summary of the genealogy of Western Civilization, highlighting the influence of Martin Luther, Emanuel Kant, and Friedrich Nietzsche. 19:41 Separation of reasoning mind from spirituality, leading to the birth of empiricism and modern science. 23:45 Discussion on the consequences of the debt-based economy and its impact on the environment and society. 27:19 Remarkable resilience of Islam among the youth, resisting secular liberal influences and holding onto religious principles in the face of modern challenges. 59:47 Islam is fully alive and growing globally despite persecution; Muslims are witnesses and refuge in the storm. 01:01:12 Muslims must navigate modernity to prevent spiritual destruction; focus on compassion and gratitude is crucial. 01:04:56 Rejection of modernity is natural, but understanding historical Islamic precedent is vital for addressing the challenges of the present. 01:09:39 Recovery of Islamic epistemologies, including childhood education, is essential for spiritual and societal renewal. Thank you so much for summarizing Br Ahmad and Br Paul’s most beautiful discussion . Liked it and loved it . Somewhat similar to the way I think . OneNess of God and One ness of Mankind . That Oneness of Mankind is the ultimate goal , but for the present Oneness among ourself is needed badly by all Ulema e Din . Be they Sunni, Sufi, Shia , Salafi, Qadiani. Etc 62 other divisions that we have ourself created or allowed it to be created by our enemies . If we do not Unite as one then we are our worst enemies . Each one need to preach and practice as One . Just like our beloved Prophet created a community of One , with the love of God and His Prophet . When it happens a one community of believers , we shall then achieve a glorious present and a future . We shall then be strong and respected in the world . Look at our Jewish cousins , they are One and strong . Even if they are atheist they are not ostracised as you are not a Jew , unlike us we ostracize at the slightest differences in rituals etc . Please something that we need to learn . All Masajids and You tube ads there is only call for collection of money , hardly ever is the MIND to call for UNITY . Our enemies who bomb our people and countries to smithereens are scared to death of our UNITY and they do everything to create splinter groups like isis , hamas and Taliban .

Haven’t even finished the video and brother Keeler has said some very profound things as it pertains to balance. The true practice of Islam resides in middle way avoiding the extremes. God is Great!
@abdessalambenbushayb
@abdessalambenbushayb 7 ай бұрын
There are a number of verses in the Quran that point to this concept of the middle or balance and to avoid transgression or extremes. One of them is in surah Al Baqarah verse 143. I hope you can find imam Saadi's commentary on this verse in English. I have it only in Arabic. He talks in it about this concept of the middle/balance. In surah Al A'raaf verse 31, Allah tells the believers to eat and drink, but not to go to extremes. Perhaps also the beginning of this verse refers to moderation in our clothing when He says:" O children of Adam, adorn yourselves at every mosque and eat and drink, but do exceed. Verily, He doesn't like those who exceed ( what is reasonable.) Also in surah Al Baqarah verse 190: " And fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you and do not exceed ( the limits), He does not like the transgressors." According to imam Saadi, a Muslim fights only for the sake of Allah or in the cause of Allah and not for anything else, and he has to fight only those who fight him and not the elderly, women children, priests, animals, or those who give Jizyah if in fact they are giving it, etc. He has to fight only those who are bearing arms and aiming at fighting him. Even in fighting, Allah commands not to exceed the limits. Also, look up verse 78 in surah Hajj, Al Furqan:67, and the word Mustaqeem/straight as in Straight Path, Surah Attaghabon: 16, etc. As to the hadith, I quote only this one. The Prophet saw said: By Allah, I am most fearful and most conscious of Allah of all of you, but I fast and I eat, and I pray and I sleep, and I marry women. So, whoever seeks other than my way, he is not of me." Please, look up why and to whom he said this. It's in the books of hadith. I conclude by saying that all of Islam is balance. Allah knows best.

As a Muslim and mental health practitioner, I suggested to several Imams that some Muslims were out of balance because of living a stressful life in NYC and they denied this theory of balance and purpose. That was 45 years ago. I was blessed to have a small understanding of the spiritual illnesses by studying the history of Islam, it’s vastness, universality and Tawhid. I thank Allah for blessing me with the wisdom and I was able to teach my children the importance of development and spiritual balance.

But inspite of the deeper delving into the laboratory to give humanity heaven on earth is clearly not happening: therefore the spell of modernity is breaking. We are living in insanity where the machines are taking over. Ahmad Paul Keeler has put in a nutshell so beautifully- I greatly enjoyed this lecture. thank you - Jazakh Allah khair: The Toheed brings clarity about Mizan or Balance in the purpose of life: The World today is a fabrication of human imagination. History for the West has no purpose, but the unfolding of Islam has a Supreme Purpose in the West. There is no structure sublime in the World today: Because Islam united the World from Africa to China: as a Universal Civilization.

For all of those who think it is ideal if Muslim women are not financially dependent on men: Would it be ideal if Muslim men were not sexually dependent on their women? For example, would it be ideal if men could purchase (at low cost) harems of docile life-like forever-young sex robots? How would you respond to Muslim men who justified this by saying such robots are necessary to give men true independence, such that they are not forced to stay in relationships with women who are rude, jealous, controlling, manipulative, fat, old, or ugly? How would you respond to Muslim men who said that Muslim women need to "step up their game" such that men choose to be with them instead of a robot that is more friendly, beautiful, young, and thin? The cop out answer is to say sex robots are haram, but there are other conceivable halal alternatives that would do the same thing: flood men with cheap alternatives. Obviously, such alternatives would weaken and ultimately destroy marriage because it takes away the dependence that men have on women for sex. But that is literally what giving women financial independence does; it makes them independent from men. And that's why no society or religion ever did give women that independence, except for our current dystopia.

Dear brother Paul, Assalam-o-Alaikum Masha Allah and Alhamd-u-lillah such an intriguing conversation with an enlightened soul. May Allah's blessings be on both and your audience (Aameen). Some decades ago I had pondered deeply on such matters and had come to very similar inferences and ways forward. but somehow I got the notion that as humanity (Children of Adam & Eve PBUT) we have transgressed right up to point of inflexion from siraat-e-mustaqeem under the garb of unguided modernity and to much extent wide spread application of self centered actions. May Allah SWT Almighty, All-knowing, All giving and All forgiving help and support all under the testing circumstances of this first world. Aameen.

SubhanAllah! What a CALLER to Allah(swt) and a Motivator of the Muslims! If there was a need for an Imam of the Muslims in Great Britain, we have one in Brother Ahmed. BarakAllahu feekum.

Thank you Paul for representing this old wise man. I love to hear from older people because they have experienced their life and they have leraned so much in order to tell us what have gone wrong and how to avoid it in futue and there telling inspire us how to make a good decision in our life and indicate us our responsibilty. They really know diffferences between different societies and civilisations.

Ahmed Keeler was born in 1942 and christened Paul Godfrey. He was brought up during the 1940s and 50s in a conservative, upper middle-class, Anglo-Catholic family. He belonged to the last generation that was educated to serve an empire which, however, was in the final stages of dissolution.-Equilibra Press

Such a profound analysis of human growth and development on the spectrum of the imagination from infancy to adulthood and the impact of worldly influence of ideas on the psychy of children.👍

The path of mesmerisation, illusion, and artificiality is unsustainable. It can only go so far and is already leading to an unveiling (apocalypse). Behind the curtain is the Wizard of Oz, soon to be laid bare. Although we are currently in a storm and there is chaos all around, Islam is a beacon of hope for humanity, so we are simultaneously privileged to be living in a pivotal and foundational time in history to show people the way forward.
