So back in 2016, Bloke filmed the Murtenschiessen in early-BotR quality, with the history of the Battle of Murten 1476: • Murtenschiessen 2016
This year, both Bloke and Chap were invited to shoot by the Société de Tir de la Ville de Fribourg, one of the oldest shooting clubs in Switzerland, founded in 1493, so only a few years after the Battle of Murten itself. Have a look at their website here: www.tir-fribour...
Having filmed it once already, they decided to show the event from the shooter's perspective, with headcams. A bit FPS game style, but ending up looking down on the rifles rather more!
And since we're on a back-to-the-roots primitive shooting roll at the moment, we shot with unmodified K31's. Well, Bloke "cheated" with a fine elevation corrector with a guesstimated setting between 200m and 300m cos his front sight is too sizes too long...
Thanks to Thierry for inviting us, and to Anna for operating the handheld camera while we shot!
Come to our competition on 2 November 2019! • BotR Bolt Action Chall...

Am I the only one blown away by the participation of kids in this event? Yes, I'm American and we have alot of guns but as a culture guns tend to be a divisive subject now. We hardly ever come together as a community for something like this. This was awesome to watch! Swiss culture is pretty cool.

It's very much a tradition. Switzerland doesn't do war so we "win wars at the shooting range", as the joke goes here. We have many associations for old fashioned cultural things like knitting, traditional folk dances, hunting and "sport" shooting. I mean we still have mandatory conscription nowadays, the principle of "everybody oughta know how to shoot" is still alive today, alt least to some part.

The interesting thing about Murten shooting is that you never know beforehand what the target will look like. Every year there is a different shape of a loophole inspired by the old city wall. As a young shooter you can take part from the age of 16. Usually not with a carbine, but rather with the Assault Rifle 90. Mood guaranteed :-) At some point I want to go there with my K11. With the assault rifle 57 and the assault rifle 90, I took part in the Murten shooting several times. It is very adventurous depending on the lying position!

With regards to the 30 o six not only was it due to the range limitations but as well as the gas system in regards to the latter M one. The original loads that were fired out of the 03 and pattern 14 were significantly more powerful. Yet would likely damage the operating rod in the M1. Curious to know the M1 charge seems to work well consistently without damage or failure in the early receivers of the 03 which have drawn scrutiny over the years. If you happen to have a second generation 03 with proper heat treating techniques guaranteed or pattern 14 variant please shoot 06 rounds and explore the capability of the cartridge. Sincerely yours.

With regards to painting bullets to identify impacts. Felt tip pens works great. They have the advantage of being dry and not leaving crud in the barrel. You can even use different colours or stripes. I use felt tip pens if I'm doing a ladder test.

superswaglord1945 In short, yes. Mostly at 300m but shorter distance commemorative events often happen like this out in someone’s field. 2-3 gun events are not that common, I couldn’t say what their “opinion” is, the practical shooting community is very very small.
