this is from 2015. Amazing. It's 2024 and he's still going strong. If health allows he will perform with BRSO within the next 6 months.

Damn, no English subtitles. But I know I'll still enjoy this. I'm absolutely in awe of Herbert Blomstedt, still conducting at 93! Although I'm not a musician, I love watching conductors and orchestras in rehearsal.

I wish I had learned German instead of the other languages I did.... all I know is that the grammar is very difficult..
@johannauensweltanschauung1410
@johannauensweltanschauung1410 3 жыл бұрын
Well, it's never too late ;-) German grammar is certainly harder than English but not as difficult as other European languages or Latin... Also many of the English and German words have the same root because of the Anglo-Saxon influx. I'll translate what you've said above into German: "Ich wünschte ich hätte Deutsch gelernt, anstelle der anderen Sprachen...

@@johannauensweltanschauung1410 How delightful to have such a civilised and academic response... thank you so much. Yes I often notice the similarity in German and English words... if you love classical music as much as I do, it is imperative I believe to know German. It is the language of great, great music. Again thank you for your reply. (Your surname as given above is at least one German word, or a connection of two of them, that at least I know....)

Perhaps because he doesnt use a baton I find it difficult to follow his beat while watching.
@johannauensweltanschauung1410
@johannauensweltanschauung1410 3 жыл бұрын
That's a common misconception that the conductor needs to give a constant precise beat. Only in the places where it's needed, for example at the beginning or during a change of tempo, he needs to be clear with the beat. For the rest of the piece his conducting means supporting, encouraging and reminding the players. After all, if the orchestra plays together his beating is obviously clear enough ;-)
