This may have been what the original may have actually sounded like. The producer said the original was reggae, he had them change to disco. And I cannot find the original recording!

Chris Stein (guitar) says the original was disco, and that the producer that claims it started out reggae was high as a kite. Given how muddy the situation is, it's probably more fair to say: "there is a non-zero chance that the original included reggae elements."
