What's skipped in he anime is incarnation, which is basically willpower, it's how kirito survived Sao,how he got his old clothing when fighting administrator. And how eldirie lived longer. His willpower defied the laws of the virtual world

Alicia, was in the childhood backstory of Gabe (Vecta), the 1st soul consumption he experienced. You could say its his "goal". In Ep4 when he killed the woman from the dark territory and consumed her "avg soul" Gabe feels that Alice's would be the "sweetest".... ugh, fuggin creep. The Deathworm Curse targets the person with the highest life value, which are the integrity knights, but they all target Eldrie and he dies. Dee Eye Ell absorbs the life from her mages so that she can live. Dee Eye Ell's main goal in the war is to help Vecta capture Alice so that he can leave so that she can become Empress of the Dark Territory. DEE was also trying to find out how Administrator reversed her age. Though it won't be explained until Moon Cradle why she could never become empress. Vecta says Alicia, who was Gabriel's childhood friend that he murdered, because they look similar, at least with the blond hair. And yeah you've started to realize that the residents of the dark territory want peace. That's two Integrity Knights dead: Eldrie Synthesis 31 and Dakira Synthesis 22.

When you talk about most of those in the Dark Territory just wanting to live their lives & *not* fight, that's true in the real world as well. Which is also why modern governments & militaries have become horrifically expert in propaganda to dehumanize those they want to attack. Because obviously, most people are going to be extremely reluctant to kill another human being if they think of them AS human. But if they are SUB-Human, well... then it's perfectly okay...
