Fun fact. The actor who plays cruzito said recently in an interview with berner theres a 5 hour cut that was never released. Theres an entire love story that was cut out between pacos charcter and another female character that was completely cut out due to time constraints.

Miklo didn't have the choice between prison or military because he had a prior conviction... the choices Miklo did make weren't the good ones... lol... This movie is a classic... another movie from us chicanos that is similar to this and older is a movie called Boulevard Nights... Another is Colors.... Great job guys... My mom showed me this movie when I was in kindergarten we grew up in Santa Ana in one of the most ruthless street gang in Orange County basically like Los Angeles anyways when she showed me that movie it took all my curiosity away about gangs and it told me, that wasn’t the life. Even tho I hang around em, I never joined one or been to jail and I thank my mom for showing me this movie at such a young age lol. ik it’s sad I saw it so young but this is basically the life for a 🇲🇽 when you grow up in the hood

I highly recommend American Me. Blood in blood out, came out at the same time American Me which is the higher budget version of the 2 movies. Both great movies and have a similar story but American me is a true story with a couple scenes that were added for dramatic purposes. 10 people that were part of making American Me were killed once the movie came out because of the added scenes that never happened. Yes, basically the start of "La Eme" which is the Mexican Mafia, prominately in prison. When you compared Miklo to the Godfather, it was spot on.

Just an FYI the original was 5 hours long with a love story involving Pratt. The drug dealer that showed up at Cruz’ art show is the actual artist that made all the murals. Miklo is 1/2 Latino and I’m 99% positive his Dad was in prison. A sequel is in the works but most people that know would rather watch the 2 hours that ended up on the cutting room floor.

I had the random pleasure of playing basketball with the actor portraying Cruz. I was young so I didn’t know his true name, but I distinctly remember me looking at my dad and saying “ isn’t that cruzito the artist?! He would have turned out ok. Remember when miklo got out he was trying to do good and turn his life around but his circumstances didn’t allow him to. Being treated like a con at work and living with Popeye made him go right back in. In a scenario paco goes to prison getting out he would have just lived with his family and learn from his mistakes

Original movie was 6 hrs long, a lot of the movie was edited out. The director said he had enough cut scenes to make another movie. There was a romantic part as well in the movie that involved Paco (Benjamin Bratt) and daughter of the police commissioner.

Blood in blood was actually two moves, a part 1 and part 2 There are actually 5 more hours of film left, and they had to cut it down. So somewhere, someone has the rest of the 5 hour film saved, and all the deleted scenes.
