You had the Soul Reaver but I just don't understand why you refuse to use it except using only the flame sword?

You cannot cast spells with the Soul Reaver, as it is a two-handed weapon. Every time you enter the menu, there is a long loading screen, so switching quickly between weapons and spells is very inconvenient.

At least a remastering; update graphics, enhance audio, but keep the same voice acting. Tony Jay, rest his soul, was one of the voice actors in this masterpiece. I can't overstate my love for this game. Got it as a birthday present in my youth and couldn't for the life of me figure out how to get to Malik's Bastion. I no longer have a physical copy of this game, but my memories with it still remain. The atmosphere, the music, the art direction, the voice acting, everything is superb! They don't make games like this anymore. I am disappointed you didn't listen to the serving girl in Nupraptor's Retreat, she's the only one I don't feed from because of what she says: "The Lord Nupraptor... He's locked himself away... He tried to kill us all! He's mad over his lost love!" Probably one of the more impactful moments for me because the writing is absolutely wonderful!

It also is amazing how everything ties together when you see the later games--- with Malek being purposely stalled by Moebius as part of his game just as Vorador rips through the Circle because of Janos's death, Ariel's murder at the manipulated Mortanius' hands thanks to the Hylden Lord, all to stack the odds for the Hylden's freedom, all while the Elder God manipulates Moebius to rid the "scourge" of vampires. And Kain, in the midst of it all, only learning centuries later, as Mortanius revives him with the Heart of Darkness to make him the first vampire Guardian in centuries, and setting into motion plans that would lead Kain to become the Scion of Balance, and how he had Raviel cast into his own hell, leading to his role in things too.

Plus we have facts like we had NO idea about Hash'ak'gik at first in Avernus, until we learned he was really Turel, pulled from the future by Azimuth, or other things such as the "Unspoken" being the Hylden. As well as how Moebius had manipulated Kain and William the Just for his ends to rid Nosgoth of the vampires, due to his inability to understand the threat the Hylden were other than to feed his master, and using Kain as the catalyst when his portable time streaming device sent him back to before William the Just would be twisted by Moebius into becoming the Nemesis.

Finding out that not only did Kain cast Raziel into the abyss to change him and make.him see what he wouldn't have before, just to lead him to learn what was destined for him, only for Kain to gamble a massive paradox in order to free Raziel from the wheel. And then learns he had walked into a trap. I think those new memories forming behind Kain's eyes in that moment were the events of Blood Omen 2.

I think this was first RPG game I was able to get on the PS1, and ironically I was working midnight shift when I would get home and play it in the morning after work. The music, atmosphere with sound and graphics and narration really was well done. Why they never made a another like this....

Simple answer: legal rights. Legacy of Kain was in legal hell for a while under Square Enix but earlier this year Crystal Dynamics got the rights back. If anything, this might be the best chance we got for a revival of the IP.

@@Katanalein Indeed. If I remember correctly the EG didn't die at the end of Defiance, so they could've made another sequel if they wanted to. Also, it was never explained how Vorador was alive again in Blood Omen 2, and since Defiance ends not long after his death in Blood Omen 1, they could've had the older Kain resurrect him somehow in the sequel

@@Chris_P_Bacon62 Yes, there is so much potential! You could also just have a game set in the time before Vampire Raziel died. Here you could basically experience a new unknown story that highlights the relationship between Kain and his lieutenants. This could appeal to new players but also make old fans of the series happy with lots of hidden references.... And the game ends with the intro sequence of Soul Reaver 1... New players then want revenge and absolutely want to continue playing (A remake of SR1 becomes more likely) and old players can hardly hold back the grin... 😁

@@Katanalein I did some digging and found something interesting. I read that in Defiance Raziel was originally supposed to resurrect Vorador at Umah's request. She was human at the time and she sympathized with the vampires. Vorador's resurrection would somehow turn Umah into a vampire, which would've explained her origins as well. They cut it from the game though because of the redundancy of Raziel resurrecting 2 elder vampires. Then they planned to have older Kain resurrect him in the sequel, but it was canceled.

My story: My mom brings me a PlayStation 1 that she got from a friend from work, the year is 2006 (I'm 6 years old). I always got second hand things as a kid including games. I receive few games with it, later my cousin's mom gives me his old games from when he was a young. I receive this game not knowing what it is. Get's home and plays it but I never makes it past the first 15 mins because to hard for my kid brain. Quits and plays Crash Bandicoot. Gives Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain a few more tries but never beats it and gives up. I later move on with life forgetting the name of the game. Time passes my mind always thinks of this game when I think about childhood games but can never find it when googling it because I didn't remember what the story was even about. Present day watching oddheaders KZbin video on "10 Strangest Areas in Games Never Meant to Be Found-Part III". Me finds it super familiar and looks up game. I click to watch this video, watches the first 5 minutes to confirm it was the game I played as a kid. What else can I say other than today was a Very Good Day to be alive.

I'll admit, I played this game so many times as a kid, so usually by the end I got enough secrets (definitely above 75%, if not into the low 90% range); which I believe gave the rank of princess, for some odd reason. Anyways, now I feel a little dumb from watching you play because it never occurred to me to often use the shield spell to get past a lot of crap and make some battles much easier overall. For the most part my main go-to strategy after attaining the Soul Reaver was to use the energy orb item and Chaos Armor, switch to the Soul Reaver, then just wreck house within just a few blows. But as I watched your fight again William I had to wonder if after using the Shield spell if then using the Twin Axes death spin would have done more damage faster than the Fire Sword.

Yes, I'm very pleased that after 24 years the game is finally available digitally on PC! It always looked bad because of the licences but apparently this problem has been solved! You know, Has anybody ever noticed how when anybody talks about Blood Omen this game seems to be the one nobody remembers Legacy of Kain, only Soul Reaver? Really say IMO. Legacy of kain was one of my favorite games as a kid.

No remake will top these games. I dont want remakes, I want new games, same continuity. The games, despite their aged gameplay hold up nicely due to their story. Remakes usually change some things, which I dont want

@@xyzz8722 That's often true, but there are also a few remakes that don't fundamentally change anything (and I don't mean cheap HD ports) but bring the game to current platforms with modern technology. And Lok would urgently need such a refresh, the PC versions, for example, are hardly playable... You have to use an emulator and even there you still have to deal with massive problems... Of course you could also play on the original hardware but very few people still have such hardware at home... And operating the camera with the digipad/shoulder buttons will be fun for very few people these days... I think it would be a shame if this great universe would be lost forever because younger generations would not have access to it.

@@Katanalein KainGL, thats not an emulator, a patch, dunno how they managed it without the source code. But basically how I played it lately was having a pirated copy with FMVs and KainGL on top of it. A GoG release will be sufficient, unless they do remake it RE2/Witcher style, but then to feel full the rest of the games would need the same treatment. Not many people will find this game, a sprite top down adventure interesting these days. Only us who played it back in the day.

maybe im just an idiot, but I played this game hundreds of times... and yet, I never realized that there is an actual scale on 02:23 when Ariel is murdered... is that scale important in some way? as soon as she empties the left side of the scale the pillars are corrupted. Maybe it was important to the story at some point and it was removed later? does anyone know anything about it?

The problem with the Soul Reaver is that it is a two-handed weapon, meaning whilst wielding it, Kain is unable to cast any spells or use any items. That's the main reason why I avoided using the Axes and the Soul Reaver. As accessing the menu implies a long loading screen switching between weapons isn't really fun or practical...

My only complaint with this playthrough was how little the iconic Soul Reaver was used. Didn’t even use it against William, even though it’s supposed to be canon. I hate how the Fire Sword is considered more viable by players because it doesn’t drain mana like the Reaver does. If this game ever does get remade, they definitely should rework how the Reaver functions and make it more useable.
