Growing up Mexican this is very familiar to me. I miss being a little kid and going out with my friends and family. Going to those quinces and falling asleep on chairs. As you get older those things slowly fade away, I rarely go out with my family now but damn I have so many thoughts. This song and music video bought a smile to my face. Blood Orange is one of those artist that can touch someone’s heart

„No one wants to be the odd one out at times / no one wants to be the negro swan“ is probably the most fitting line for our century I‘ve ever heard. We‘re always connected through our phones, yet we aren‘t. I feel like people sadly forgot what real relationships are made of, we often times aren‘t able to speak out what we feel since almost everything is or feels superficial. We dig a hole deep in ourselves, our feelings are thrown inside. Not visible to others. There‘s no connection, we feel like the odd one out. The Negro Swan. Beautifully written text.

I'm not black. I'm a Hispanic girl but I still feel the lyrics so strongly. Im currently in a relationship with a white guy and he doesn't like my race. I realized this no too long ago. I feel incredibly inferior. I feel like the "black swan" when im around his family and white washed friends. I am building up the courage to breakup with him rn. This song is like a reminder that it's normal to feel belittled. I break sometimes, I hate that i'm not white sometimes. I know i shouldnt, but when youre constantly being told you are less than because of your race, it hurts. i'm getting therapy for this soon hopefully.

you deserve better. Never let a man or anyone else try to change who you are, physically or mentally. Find someone who loves you for your true self that’s what real love is. So go ahead and break up with him. Focus on learning self love, because that’s the only way to find someone who truly loves you. You are beautiful the way god made you originally and never allow this world to change the true and original you
