Honestly I’m kind of confused with why we need to protect the shark. Don’t we compete for food? The fish population is decreasing because of overfishing, wouldn’t the growing shark population drive their population down further?

@@mackayla8262 . . . Not to be mean, but that was pretty dumb. . And not at all how things work. . The point is we value life. That part should go without saying. . They also perform important functions in ecosystems. . Overfishing is entirely caused by humanity. That's point three.

Just a comment on the title of the video. I HATE when people label a shark as “blood thirsty” or use that phrase in anyway referring to a shark. We have to be more responsible when labeling. Sharks are still being hunted for their fins and we need to make them less scary and more important as a needed predator in the oceans. They’re just doing what comes natural and as apex predators they help keep the ocean sea life healthy and in check.

actually it is untrue that sharks can smell blood miles away. although they have an acute sense of smell, and it is possible for them the smell your blood, it isn’t likely that they’re going to smell it miles away. it depends on the shark, but we measure it by one drop per million. for example, the lemon shark can smell one part per 25 million, which is equivalent to 10 drops in an average sized home swimming pool. the shark would have to be nearby (within a couple hundred meters) and many factors would have to be incorporated. the current of the water and the other chemicals the shark is smelling are two of them. if the shark is mating, it can smell up to miles and miles of pheromones produced by a female shark, but sharks cannot do that with blood especially if the current is flowing the opposite direction. therefore, they aren’t blood thirsty

It is a very wonderous thing, these are beautiful creatures and their role is fairly important to the current ocean ecosystem, What our problem is: The people you can see in the comments that are very much, Not educated enough to understand the basic behavior of sharks and understand They could care less about us normally they just want Whales and Seals Granted their return to the eastern coast is minorly dangerous for Us people Because of said individuals because a shark can become easily worked up because of their nerves sensing the activity in the water which these nerves are Super Charged compared to ours so you can imagine what that feels like to them if we're discouraged by loud noises, it's 5 times that for them. It's just a shame there's so many uneducated morons trying to throw their two cents in without proper research

Leviathans Terrible Gaming its nothing to do with uneducated. It’s that there’s people enjoying the beaches, surfers, kayakers-swimmers even boaters where a man over board can result in death. It doesn’t matter if it’s 1 million to one odds. If a person falls off their hobbit cat sailboat those odds are exponentially not in his favor. Again, these are your smaller reef sharks not white or black tip sharks but white sharks. A exploratory bite can be fatal. Or get mauled by a shark, loose an arm or a leg, bleed out to death isn’t nearly as fun as it sounds in person. Maybe we should use any type of deterrent. Nets, heard of something that emits Sound frequency that sharks dislike. Besides simply telling humans to stay out of the water isn’t great either.

If you don't understand shark behavior then I understand where you are mistaken, a Shark Mouthing is what it's called is what they do when they want to See if something is food, Most sharks DO SEE YOU very clearly yes but there are some dampened by the splashing and activity, Tiger Sharks, Nurse Sharks, Bull Sharks, All do this Even a great white does this from time to time, There's a difference between a mouthing and a Bite, if it was a straight up Bite on a limb that limb is gone if it's a great white because take in mind of their Massive bite force, Sharks don't just attack people on purpose, They bite because they think "Hey you're splashing you must be a Fish" Please go do some research into shark behavior of the many species and you will see this will be a reoccurring fact, I hate to see someone go into a subject like this Ignorant of the truth.

Okay that's a little scary for people tho because what if a little kid goes a hit deep in the water and theres a shark like bro I love sharks but it's way to dangerous to have that many that close to people

When we were at Cahoon Hollow beach several years ago there was a single seal swimming around the shore and a giant white shark chased it onto the beach! My kids had been in the water!

Willie Schoeman wtf does that even mean. How does the ocean belong to sharks and not to seals, whales, fish, birds, and humans? Would you feel the same way about aquatic species on land? Should crocodiles be banned from land because they "invaded our homes"?
