These techniques are interesting in the context of mailled-palm gloves that we see in renaissance treatises

Possibly an irrelevant question, but whatever happened to your old location? And I haven't seen Julian, Sean, or Lee in a while.

2:18 *From a historical standpoint, most of the time I'm wearing leather gloves when I do this* A nitpick on my part perhaps but I find this statement slightly misleading. Mostly because it definitely depends on the time period and region of Europe or one of its colonies. In Middle Ages, leather gloves for the most part weren't popular at all. In most regions for the most time leather gloves with five fingers practically weren't a thing. The rest were meant to be worn in cold weather, so not sure if you would wear them for dueling. Also, notice how historical manuals from Middle Ages and Renaissance rarely show practitioners wearing gloves. In the Early Modern Era, leather gloves were mostly reserved for horse riding and mounted combat. The trend mostly stayed that way even up to Napoleonic Era. In some regions like Commonwealth(PLC)/Eastern Europe, and I think this is a good thing to point out considering that you literally used Polish Sabre in this video, leather gloves practically weren't worn at all even throughout most of the Early Modern Era. Even for horse riding So I don't think leather gloves had any major impact on those techniques. The only exception may come from the fact that armored gauntlets are essentially attached to leather gloves. Not sure how often you would have to resort to blade grabbing while wearing armour though. It seems to be a technique usually shown in the context of an "unarmoured fight".

Buddy, it wasn't about fashion. You can PUT ON gloves when you knew you were going to be in a fight.

@@farkasmactavish This is very much about fashion and customs. You can't just assume that something was done without any sources to prove it. Especially if there are historical sources that seem to contradict such assumptions. Like iconography, duel rulesets, fencing manuals (with some exceptions like some rapier manuals) diaries, or later even some army regulations that mention that dismounted cavalrymen should take off their gloves. For example, how would I put on gloves for a fight if I didn't own them in the first place? Let's say because no one uses them in the particular region of Europe or no one of my social standings would bother with spending money on something so trivial?

@@kamilszadkowski8864 In the flower of battle, Fiore literally says, word for word, that five times he was forced to fight against other masters with sharp swords in only leather gloves and a gambason.

@@kamilszadkowski8864 Homeboy. People got into formal duels all the time. And into military combat. A knight didn't care what his gloves looked like, only that they worked. And when you scheduled a duel, you put on your gloves. You DID. And you'd have to show me those regulations about dismounted cavalrymen, because that sounds stupid as shit.

@@farkasmactavish "People got into formal duels all the time." --- Source? In the late Middle Ages, it became very uncommon especially since already in XIII and XIV century both the Church and some rulers made the effort to ban them. Past the Middle Ages, those duels are usually informal and often formally illiegal. 'And into military combat." --- Which often involved armoured gauntlets, not gloves. "A knight didn't care what his gloves looked like, only that they worked." --- Source? Both on the first and the second statement. Can you prove a leather glove offers any noticeable protection at all? Any proofs of knights using leather gloves for protection at all? "A knight didn't care what his gloves looked like, only that they worked. And when you scheduled a duel, you put on your gloves. You DID." --- Except when the rules could literally forbid wearing gloves or gauntlets of any kind. LIke in the duel between Mikołaj Turski and Mikołaj Smolikowski in 1511. The Rules given for their duel of honor forbade them from having any kind of protection from the hand to the elbow. You also have dueling rule books like Sassenspegel which often details what you could wear for a duel, curiously despite mentioning every single detail of clothing it often (especially the earlier "editions") skips the gloves completely. Maybe because they were so rare no one even thought about them when writing the rules down. Of course, then we have Flos Duellatorum which states Fiore fought with gloves on. But this source relates to Upper Germany and Italy and is dated for the early XV century. We can't know how things were in other parts of Europe in different time periods. Leather five finger gloves didn't become widespread and popular till the early XVI century. Even then this fashion never caught up in the whole of Europe. I am not opposed to the fact that they were sometimes worn for duels but definitely not always. "And when you scheduled a duel, you put on your gloves. You DID." --- So you are saying that even in the Early Middle ages when there is no evidence for even the most basic hand protection people wore gloves for duels. Yeah, I'm sure those Vikings also wore leather jackets and rode Harley-Davidsons to battle. "And you'd have to show me those regulations about dismounted cavalrymen because that sounds stupid as shit." --- Right now I don't have the access to those regulations. Just look up any cavalry drill regulations from the XVIII century onwards. Otherwise, you can look up the book "Taktyka walki i szermierka kawalerii europejskiej w XVIII wieku" if you speak Polish, it details cavalry regulations regarding every major nation in Europe. If you'll encounter any problems with finding them then let me know I'll try to find exact quotes later this week.

Strong STRONG Zornhaw's, and lightning fast stabs. Strong Zorns if they try to block (so you blow right through), and lightning fast stabs utilizing that reach (They cant exactly swing if you have a blade on their head shoving them back). Just my experience. There is a theoretical tactic as well where you target one or the other hand so that they lose all function with it, but that's pretty difficult to pull off if you don't apply the power to them correctly.
