Like mitzo4526 pointed out, the school of Mensis didn't think they'd die by coming into contact with Mergo. Guess not everyone was convinced though since there are birdcage corpes with shackles on them in Yahar'gul. That's probably why Micolash isn't that concerned about dying in the nightmare, because he thinks he'll just wake up.

This voice-acting is fucking top. I love the design and the the idea of this boss, stuck in a labyrinthian limbo with this madman and the twisted nightmare that he hosts, almost taunting you with his prayers as you give chase through the darkened hallways. A shame they didn't seem to put much "fight" in this bossfight though, as he goes from doing near harmless parlor tricks involving hentai tentacles to spamming one-shotting AoE's. They could certainly have given him some more attacks, or at least more variations. Nevertheless, how could you not love a man in a birdcage hat?

+Cass Griffon I kind of like this boss though. He's devoted himself totally to insight, the "otherworldy"/"higher" knowledge for what seems to be a very long time; as such, he's physically weak, which is why he relies on his arcane tools to fight you. As for the karate chops in the first half... maybe that was because he was crazy, or he wanted to fool the player into thinking he couldn't fight back?

Micolash is a fantastic boss- in the context of lore. Several years later I still find him to be a fascinating character. The host of the nightmare, originally a dream, used to call audience with the great ones. An idea so mad, so wonderful, that several students of Mensis disagreed and were tied to their chairs or handcuffed and forced to participate. Their bodies and minds both within the waking world and the nightmare having melted and warped and trapped within an endless void in the form of the old lecture hall. And all alone stands the maddened Micolash. So enraptured by the dream he's lost sight of how it's turned into the Nightmare of Mensis. Of how the brain, the artificial great one, was created with vile eyes and a crooked gaze, inflicting a maddening frenzy upon the unfortunate who are within it's line of sight. He'd have no idea how much time has passed with his mind separated from body, within the rapturous dream, he mourns waking up and forgetting but little does the scholar know he has Nothing to wake up to, except the cold, unknown, dark of death. A shame. He has so many cut lines, back in the alpha, when he was an NPC. Aside from our friend Gherman he's the only other person who seems to have any idea on what's going on. But unfortunately he is the remnant of the old build, and while his lore remains it truly shows that his fight is unfinished, when compared to the other human bosses. Perhaps if Fromsoft had more time.... We'd see Bloodborne's true potential.

I think Micolash fight was nice but could be better. Just imagine listening to that track while you're trying to chase him and suddenly the entire place begins to spin and change constantly, it gets darker and darker, eyes begin to appear on the walls and everything starts bleeding around. The feeling of madness starts taking control of you because the music gets more and more intense and you can't catch Micolash because physical attacks don't work on him so you have to think about something different to defeat him. It's like a sick maze which changes constantly. In some moments you will be following a weak light at the end of your path, which will be your only guide to avoid permanent darkness. I think that amazing track could be even more memorable with such a fight. Just try to imagine it @__@

i always thought it'd be cool if they just incorporated the environment more into the fight- i mean, it's his dream, so he should be able to control it at least a bit, right? especially since his main gimmick is running away, make the arena itself the main challenge rather than micolash. could be a unique "oh hey, that's different" section of the game. also, he reminds me of multiple characters from Alice in Wonderland (the Mad Hatter for the obvious reason+the cage bearing a slight resemblance to the oversized top hat the Hatter is commonly depicted with, the White Rabbit for the chasing, and the Cheshire Cat for the trickster persona and the disappearing act; that all taken with the fact that he very literally lives in a "wonderland" of sorts, at least), so maybe throw in that kinda psychedelic vibe on top of it. idk lmao
