It's weird hearing this boss' soundtrack so clearly; whenever I watch people fight it, it shrieks more than a banshee does on a cold Irish night. But it's very nice, in the 1st phase, it reminds me of Great Grey Wolf Sif's track; beautifully tragic. But then the composer adds some Blood-Starved Beast in 2nd phase and it's sounds right for the boss' aggressiveness.

Don't you prefer the first part of this theme on organ? It matches the game's atmosphere more in my opinion. Surely very few know of Orphan of Kos organ versionkzbin.info/www/bejne/rYOyZH2fmN59qMk Thank you for uploading the songs in such nice audio quality😃

Imo an organ has more of a religious feel and thus is more fitting for the Healing Church. Laurence's theme is a perfect example of it. Bloodborne's gods are definitely not gods in the sense of holiness, and thus organ would not fit Orphan. Orphan's existence is tragic and wrought from the defilement of his mother, and now he's a confused and angry infant lashing out. The sad and somber phase 1 music is perfect as it is, imo. The strings and brass are able to achieve dissonance and even some weird microtones that I don't think would be as good on organ. The droning strings and brass make it feel alien and that Orphan was something that never should have been seen (hence Maria trying to keep him and the hamlet a secret). Overall, organ is definitely more of a religious/church instrument so it makes sense to reserve it for Laurence as he's the big church guy

@@LtCdrXander I see. The guy who arranged Orphan's theme for organ had also arranged Laurence's as well as Maria,Cleric Beast, Ludwig and Gehrman's themes.

@@LtCdrXanderyes, this is the kind of ost i love in these games. Loud, desperate, majestic, vicious. Probably the reason why i didn't enjoy Elden Ring as much for the most part. Although the dlc made up for the base game a lot, i think the ost in that game was overall just too quiet, clean and elegant for my tastes. You can stiill have elegance while making the music relentless like with Lady Maria or Dragonslayer armor in ds3, but elden ring just made it more delicate.

@@kixakii436 yeah Lady Maria's ost is one of my favorites, although I do think phase 2 is too loud without any breaks in the choir. I always liked Mohg's theme from Elden Ring base game the best, but with the DLC I think Romina and Metyr have my favorite osts. I like classical music so I guess I like more complex pieces with varied dynamics as opposed to ones that are just bombastic and epic the whole time. For that reason I find Elden Ring's boss themes much more memorable than the Dark Souls tracks, since as you said, the ER ones tend to have more elegance or variation in dynamics. Overall Bloodborne has the most osts that I really love, but Elden Ring has the best blends of super loud/epic sections and delicate/emotional sections in its music.

@LtCdrXander i do agree lady maria has a bit too much wall of sound in second phase. But the first phase is SO classy i love it, it literally sounds like a shark stalking it's prey from below. I also love the female soprano that comes in towards phase 3, it stands out so much and highlights the tragedy of Marias character. Again other tracks i adore in bloodborne are Bloodstarved beast and orphan of Kos who convey the concept of a rabid beast absolutely chasing you mercilessly so well with the unrelenting strings. Ludwig is good although overrated, Gehrman is just perfect, it rips your heart out with despair. But my favourite in bloodborne i think may be Laurence simply because it is plays like a big malefic ballad narrating the acts of Laurence and the start of the beast plague in Yharnam with latin lyrics.
