How about we stick to the plan and not destroy Gebel for no reason this time? The moon will turn red later in the battle, and you must cut it with the Zangetsuto to reveal Gremory. This allows us to proceed with the story. This is also the only way to properly obtain the Gebel medal, since the bad endings will give you the congratulations chime and medal drop, but it won't save to your inventory.
