@cpresto2 it's so poignant & meditative, especially the instrumental at the end, & it was written with such love & tender care with lines such as "that whole world's an old & faded picture in my mind / Am I, the last of my kind?"

The river can't take you back in time. Daddy wasn't a liar but I dont think he had the same struggles. The river is just familiar and sometimes that's not always good. Arkansas is a long ways away brother. Peace be the journey

I could write an essay on this song's themes and their effect on the listener. The reference to feeling old and out of place (I don't own a TV, follow sports, or care about celebrity culture) is totally relatable. "Nobody else here seems to care /They walk right past them like they ain't even there" makes me think about how people are always staring at their phones, not living in the present moment, being indoctrinated by celebrities' ideas and values, exposed to advertising 24 hours a day. "The family farm's a parking lot to Walton's Five and Dime" chokes me up every time. To me, the reference to "Walton's" (aka Walmart in the beginning) prompts me to think about our way of living and how it's changed since the 1950s, when the Walmart empire began ... the way our mom and pop businesses have been killed off by mega-chains, our beautiful landscapes overrun with Big Box stores and the warehouses necessary for a 24-hour shopping economy. During the lovely meditative instrumental at the end, I'm prompted to think of all the beauty still left in the world, all the small pockets of good neighbors still left, good humans serving their purpose and not just themselves. Thank you, @jasonisbellmusic, for this beautiful gift that gives so many of us comfort and peace.

Wish Sadler's pickin' would get featured like this on record. Don't have to turn them into a jamband, but it seems like a big missed opportunity to not showcase a little more of this type interplay on record.

Nope just standard with a capo on fret 2. Chord shapes in the key of G, but the capo makes that the key of A.
