This drama was good and I wished I had seen it years before. The costumes and sets were so beautiful. The plot flowed smoothly and was not too complex. Most of the characters (including the supportive ones) acted pretty well, they did not seem out of place with their characters. Loved that each character was not just pure good or pure evil as written by the directors. We got a mixture of both good and evil in each character. I found Gong Zi to be a fascinating character and can see why some shipped him with the female main lead. However, I love Chang An’s unconditional love for Wan Mei. You can just feel their love. The ending was so OPEN-ENDED. I’m choosing to believe that Chang An was still alive. 😅

Here on YT on the last episode someone wrote in the comments that in the book Chang'an survived and that the poem on the fan is actually a hint as to where he is hence the city/town montage they show at the end of the episode. ^^

I’m glad you enjoyed it…too much anguish for me that I had to watch bits and parts with someone else and they gave me the fillers I missed. But I agree there great characters and cast. The costumes and set was definitely beautiful. And this song…it was on repeat for the longest time.

I LOVE all your videos, @MK916 !!! This was a completely unexpected gem for me! OMG, Wan Mei and Chang'An...not a single kiss and yet I felt incredible love and tension from them for each other. And if the ending had been less open-ended (many international viewers like me would not have read the novel), and had some element of a happy ending as a reward for making it through all their challenges, that would have been icing on the cake.

This drama is really underrated. A gritty and painful love story. Full of angst and desperation. I really like this kind of story They don't make this kind of drama anymore. The actors are also superb. This is where I first saw Wang Duo, and fell in love with his acting. Unfortunately I didn't see much of him anymore. I hope to see him in other dramas/movies.

@MK916🕊️ the idea of 'shadow' fascinates me. Her turmoil over whether he 'loved' her as a man or just it was just part of his duty as her shadow was less point out. But the pain was clearly seen when they met for the first time after her 'downfall'. I kept repeating that episode. It clutches your heart till it hurts.

I’m still mad that they only hinted that there could be a happy ending rather than just giving us it! But gosh, this drama was incredible. How I wish I could relive that experience of watching it for the first time! Gong Zhi was by far my favourite character but damn, if Wan Mei and Chang An didn’t just break my heart a million times. I loved this video so much! Your editing as always is fantastic and your composition and execution forever flawless.

I couldn’t agree more. I would’ve rather they shown Chang An alive rather than hinting at it. I found Gong Zi to be an interesting character. It was unfortunate that he wasn’t as sincere as Chang An in showing his emotions toward Wan Mei. She could sense the one who TRULY loves her.

oh i love this drama and the ost was amazing i unserstand why a lot of people like gong zi because he's the epitome of beauty, he shows wan mei a lot of beautiful things and help her a lot just like how most male lead would do, but chang an is the one who sacrifice the most for her. In the novel they decribe chang an as the one who understand wan mei the most more than herself. He is the one who taught her everything.

Gong Zi can be considered one of my fvrt characters of all time. I had the fattest crush on him and I liked him more than Chang 'An then. He was just so pretty lol. EDIT: I watched it in 2019, so, later, I realized the toxicity of GongZi better but Duo Wang's acting was still better

I also had the same feelings as you. I thought Gong Zi was a fascinating character, not just for his handsome looks but his ambitions too. It wasn’t until the second half that I found Chang An truly cares more for Wan Mei than Gong Zi ever could. Even Gong Zi admitted he would never give up his ambitions.

I like the beginning. The fighting scene for the guys were amazing, but eventually gets bad. I feel for our second male lead, the prince. He is one of the strongest, a god of war, and has every rights and reasons to kill the emperor but he didn’t. He continues to be a dog servant and eventually is discarded. Aiya. I didn’t expect FL to like him back. ML is what keeps him going but second ML is the one who gave her all her skills to live. One is a friend and the other is a teacher. 🤷‍♀️

I find Gong Zi to be interesting. You can clearly see that he cares for Wan Mei, but is unable to let go of his ambition. All she wanted was someone to truly ❤️ her, which was Chang An.

Lol, I am debating whether to put this on my watch list. The comments say it's very depressing. I recently finished Royal Nirvana and that took me through hell. Censor interference screwed up the story, had to watch season 2 to try to correct it. But overall it was a very painful story, but censorship ruined the story. The FL here is the FL there and I ended up hating her, because of how season 1 was cut. I think you wrote that the writing is good, so I will not suffer that again. I see it's Xian Xia. Is the writing better than Lobe Between Fairy and Devil? Bevause that had some scenes meant for a juvenile audience (crawling across the sand for way too long really annoyed me). Is it worth my time for a light show like you mentioned? I am currently watching a K-Drama Under The Queen's Umbrella and having a really good time.

Hi friend, hope you’re doing well. This drama isn’t a xianxia like Love Between Fairy and Devil, but it has elements of fantasy in it. If I had to compare those two dramas, then LBFAD is a bit better (IMO 😅). If you’re looking for a light drama, then this is not the right choice. It’s filled with angst. Even the intro song (which I used as the bgm to this video) shows how painful their love was. I haven’t watched that many Kdramas recently, just Alchemy of Souls as my last one. But I heard many liked Under The Queen’s Umbrella. 😊

@@MK916Editz I had to laugh when you said LBFAD is better than this 😂🤦‍♀️ I do love angst, it's what I enjoy the most but the script has to be good. Most of my tier one shows are angst filled and quite painful. Yes, hi friend 😸 I had issues with season 1 of AOS as it got boring for me towards the end, but I was encouraged to watch season two and I enjoyed it a lot. I loved how he stood up for his wife. For me, it's a tier three show as it's light and enjoyable. They also had fight scenes that tapped into Xian Xia so I was able to enjoy that aspect without resorting to a C-Drama. The special effects were also very good. Under the Queen's Umbrella is different from AOS, they have the usual infighting between concubines but it's interesting how the mothers fight for the sake of their sons. The relationships between the brothers are complex as between the mothers, and also between the women and their half sons. I am considering putting it in tier one right now as the writing is very good. I know you liked the writing in the show with the women moving to the city and finding love ... I will try to look for the name. You made a video about it. The writing in UTQU is really good. Not too many fight scenes, it's character driven and the acting is great, the story unfolds not because they said it directly - that's the mark of good writing. Did you ever watch Nirvana in Fire? UTQU is sort of in the same vein, pitting strategies against each other, and there are multiple moving pieces all the time. I am having a blast just keeping up with the writers surprising me. Looks like I will have to skip this one 😁 based on how you assessed it compared to LBFAD. I did watch an anime, whose name I will look up. It was very light, had a body switch plot. Was quite amused the entire time. I will watch season two soon, I hear they don't have subs yet for all of it. This is tier three for me. I also watched a time travel medical K-Drama, Live Up To Your Name, that made sure not to be too heavy, they concentrated more on the romance than the medical stuff which I found more interesting. @@Sikhindu Ooooo....Nirvana In Fire is one of my favorite dramas. All that planning between some of the characters was great! Yes, I like A Dream of Splendor from last year. The female lead was in another drama recently aired called Meet Yourself. Not sure if you will like it since the plot is very simple. But it’s such a calming and relaxing drama.

I found that they are too light. I watched a French show called Women at War. 8 epsiodes. It's got scenes not usually in historical Asian dramas, scenes sans clothes but they cut away quickly. They don't dwell on them so I felt relieved. They also had violence as it's based on the first world war. But the writing was very good. Actors very good, with great chemistry with each other. I can't praise this show enough. Also, I noticed people were talking normally. Since I only watch historical and fantasy, women tend to be soft spoken. I found the French women too loud at first. Then I realized it's what I had been watching. 😁🤦‍♀️ Edit: I liked the trailer for Meet Yourself. I have put it on my list.
